PowerNation how long is that car and how much does it weigh, my dad had a 73 or 74 Monterey back in the seventies, man that thing rode good and would cruise at 100 all day long.

I like this big ol car great choice a luxury car it would be an easy sale.

That stuff is amazing, but a little pricey. Try coal tar epoxy, it's actually an industrial coating for offshore oil rigs to keep them from rusting in salt water. It's also a crapload cheaper

its because they're motorheads not bodyshop guys.. but I also wonder why anyone doing a restoration doesn't spray the entire underside with Phosphoric Acid Rust Converter to neutralize the rust and convert it to an oxide that is easy to wire brush or just paint over.. but this car after they are done is going to be worth less than the cost of the parts they put on it.. unless its for one of their dad's as a specialty project.. give it to dad to drive to the golf course .. throw 4 sets of clubs in the trunk.. heh but those wheels idk if dad is going for that. heh.... maybe kinda looks like boat steering wheels or somethin

+Self-Centered Insomniac I was thinking the same. Pimp on the outside, rust bucket underneath. A waste of money until it's cleaned up. And 1100 HP is going to rip some rusty part loose.

That's the first thing that pissed me off, LOL but i still gave a thumbs up. I agree if all the stuff is out of the way why not at lest spray some Rust-Oleum Black Paint under there darn it.

Those rims actually looked good on this car because of the of the fact that the car was size proportionate for the rims Put the same rims on a 2013 Mustang and they'd really look awful

Yes, I think they should have made them look like the stock wheels so there would have been no clue whatsoever to the massive amount of power under the hood.

My dad had a 71 wagon, we kept that for 7 years. I had a friend whose dad had a 72, I like the grill better on the 72.

@@767dag, stroker kit is 2000 from Eagle. Total engine build, depending on what block you use, stock or aftermarket, heads etc, probably 15k. Currie is getting 1900 for the rear with full locking diff. With cost of the car, fuel injection, engine build, air ride etc, at least 40k.

Front springs are a pain in the ass. Drivers side needs to be different then passengers side. The AC bracket, and pump are close to 200lbs.....that's more weight on the drivers side.

Back in the late 80' and early 90's having a bagged suspension on my '68 GT Fastback Torino Pro-Street sure would have made life easier and saved on suspension parts and skid plates (added later) replacement cost and time. Just because it is used on lowriders is no reason to not use something. Look at turbo's, the were "import/ricer" power adders back in the day and are common on any kind of build today. (Though I still prefer my Detroit Diesel -/71 series blowers.)

As I am a former owner of a 72 Merc I will say It's a 5000LB + car so it's a cruiser not a race car, not to mention its about 19ft long, stock height they were to low for taller speed bumps let alone if you had 4 grown men inside of it slamming the car even further to the ground.. Now I am doing my first car from my youth which is a 1973 Lincoln Continental which is a bit longer and heavier then the Merc, it is a very similar build build as this Merc in this video with the exception that it is dual 3 inch exhaust with glass packs and no cross overs for a deliberate raspy sound and a hydraulic cam on a 10.5 compression bottom end making 540ishHP. There is nothing sweeter then a Chevelle owner thinking they are going to smoke you and your slamed Luxo boat Lincoln down a freeway ramp and they can't shake it... But that isn't the point of the car its all about getting out and cruising and the bags make the car look mean as hell when its slammed but totally drivable when your hitting the highway which I drive the hell out of my rides, this car will be rolling one way 250 miles to vegas in a few weeks and it cruises the OC beaches pretty regularly which are and hour away. My point is land yachts are the most under rated car in the hobby and yet they are just as fun if not more fun then any mustang or cuda the bags are part of the fun just as the over stuffed bench seats are.

@@BloodRaven1969 I love a 68 Torino, my neighbor who is an older man has a 427 4 speed car and raced it all over so cal in the 1970s... Such a great looking fastback car. But then again there isn't to many American cars that were what I would consider ugly that are pre safety era rides. I have had probably 75 or so cars of all different makes and models but goofy compacts from the USA in the late 1950s into the 1960s and luxury (fully loaded full size) cars from the late 1940s to the late 1970s from the USA I always come back to them. My Lincoln is a blast and when I was a kid it seated 6 and all my dumb friends had mini trucks with ugly bucket seats out of preludes or somethong so all the girls in the group always ended up in my car... Great times... That being said my next car on my must own list is out of the ordinary for me I think it is going to be a 1964 to 1966 V8 barracuda because I am noticing the price is starting to inch up and I've always wanted one so I figure it's now or never... your torino is also on my bucket list but I Haven't seen a reasonably priced one in a long time. I think I gave only had two mid sized cars in my life, a 68 Olds Cutlass and a ford Granada. When was the last time you have seen one of those cars? I wanted to buy another one but a two door v8 car and I haven't seen one on Craigslist somewhat locally in a long time, I thought it would make a fun street raceish car being in California I have to get a 75 or it would have to do through smog and I am to stupid to move away from this car hating stronghold (as of yet).

Is it really a restoration of you just throw a buncha exspensive parts on a rusty car.... around here we call that building shit boxes
