After our Chevy small-block 283 disassembled itself, we couldn't help but give it a full engine rebuild. This iconic V-8 engine came out of 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle convertible 25 years ago and has sat untouched ever since, but now it's getting the rebuild it deserves.

Just. Unbelievable. Not only the level of cleanup, machine work, restoration, paint, assembly, and attention to detail, but to take the time to do what amounts to "claymation" video on the disassembly was nothing short of astounding. Next-level talent in so many areas...

As a shop owner I know the amount of work it takes to rebuild a motor, and all that stop motion photography takes a lot of time and talent as well, if anybody is looking to have an engine remade ? these are the guys that you would trust to do it. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video, this is quality viewing that any small child could sit in front of and enjoy and possibly learn something. There needs to be more videos like this. Good job guys !!

Another timeless piece of editing goodness! I love the macro lens shots of inside the engine where the camshaft goes. Never knew how roughly casted those engines were back then. She purrs like a kitten like Davin says. Those restrictive cast iron manifolds really makes the engine quiet. A set of long tube headers and a beefy cam would make this engine sound niiiice. But I understand, this rebuild was meant for a stock cruiser. The engine was rebuilt better and more balanced thanks to the guys at Apex Competition Engine for balancing the crankshaft.

@@karenthomson9749 I know, but it was relatively stock build as Davin mentioned before. He even mentioned before the block got painted, that black painted blocks are race engines. Orange painted blocks are stock lol

Well... when I saw the roller tappet brackets being installed I scratched my head a little. When they installed the OEM manifold and two barrel carb it becomes clear that this isn't a fire breather but an engine made to live on pump gas on the street.

That video is a cinema masterpiece. But... that engine is about 66 years old. The oil fill in the intake and the vapor can in the lifter valley indicates it vintage. The exhaust manifolds are 70’s items. Ram horn manifolds would be correct to that motor. But I still loved it.

You see the rig they use in some of the shop diary videos - it's a motorized slide rail that slowly moves while the time-lapse is taken. They must have added a motorized turntable for some of these shots. The corkscrew motion is probably done in the video editing.

My first car was a '67 Impala Sport Coupe with a 283, "Powerslide". Except for the "ram's horn" exhaust manifolds that was the engine that defined my youth. Other than the curious need to rebuild that 2bb Rochester carb and the nylon timing gear that left me stranded with my high school girlfriend on a deserted side road, it was an excellent mill. Thank you for not giving in to the "stock build" trolls and allowing me to see this old lump brought back to it's original form .... 2bb carb and all. Excellent!!
