In this video I talk a little bit about why I'm dropping poundage, no that doesn't mean I'm losing weight, just that I'm switching to a lighter poundage bow. I also take a look at my new 2018 Striker Classic Take Down Recurve as I open the box for the first time!
I hope you enjoy!
Take care, Shoot Straight, and I'll see you on the Internet!

Hi. My friend is disabled, only shoots a 10lb bow. Not about the big guy bs. Its about enjoyment. Well said my friend. Always love your vids.♥️

The best advice i ever got from my archery instructor : when you sacrifice good form to be able to shoot the bow, its too heavy. Form over pounds every day. The striker looks very nice! great video Jim :)

I dropped from 50 to 35 earlier this year as I'm not getting to shoot as much as I'd like, learning the different arrow trajectory is a pain, but I'm now relatively ache free the next day. Putting 100+ points on my PB with the lower poundage sealed the deal for me.

I was shooting 65lbs for years and dropped to 60 and even that worked wonders for me to be way more accurate but I still shoot lots of arrows a week and shoot the 65 still too but will only hunt with my 60 or 55lb bow

Great advice as always !! If you are not a Hunter and just shoot paper or 3D don’t worry about poundage or speed !!! Personally I don’t care if my arrows have to take a bus to reach the target as long as I’m burning the center as i have been since dropping poundage with my longbows years ago !!! Have fun and stay injury free !!!

Spent a few months away from my bow in Japan... kept visualizing and using rubber bands but knew I'd need a traveling setup... at the same time I made a huge jump. After all those years being such a "traditionalist" without even knowing what Exactely that was... but tired of day form and missing, I started watching the Push guys, gap and crawl videos ... which I absolutely hated just a few years back... but the modern trad movement is cool! It really is. So I bought me a super short and aggressive VPA ilf longbow setup around 45# ... and it just arrived. Oh man! I can work on my form now, take it with me to Canada soon and even take it small game hunting. I'm definitely in the market for the new one piece longbow by my buddies from striker but needed a traveling bow. Only thing I notice is that I keep hitting my nose on nearly every shot when keeping the bow more vertical... maybe it is the release... but it causes idiotic amounts of pain and makes me lose my form. In any case... like your videos... but the last minute of this video was the non rambling side of you I'd really wanna watch all the time. Cheers

I agree I'd rather put the arrow where u want it than try to shoot something I cant control properly. I have a damon howatt 65# hunter recurve I can shoot ok but I dont enjoy going out and shooting for fun all day with it. I feel alot more comfortable with a 45-50# bow and it's more relaxing and fun.

I just today got a bodnik slick stick in 35lb, I'd rather be able to shoot lots of arrows well than struggle and only get a couple in the kill zone. That and if I get proficient enough, a 35 pounder is legal for whitetail in Virginia!

Jim, good to hear/see you and as always nice video. I know all about dropping down in weight, the older I get the less my bow weight gets. I like the shirts but they need to make you one in plaid that would be cool. Do you ever get any bows that are NOT great looking and great shooting :-). I asked before and maybe I missed it but have you done the full video on the 2017 Gathering. I have watched the short pilot quite a few times but that is just a tease so I can't wait for the full version. Hope all is well with you and your family. Thank you. Alan

Stunning bow. Seeing it up close in video is so different than in photos and in reviews. Amazing. BTW, have you checked out the American Leathers' series of gloves? They're pretty durable for the price you're paying; I personally suggest the kangaroo leather. Or any glove made from kangaroo hide.

Quick question Jim, I have shot flatbows for about 5 years now. I switched from a compound. As soon as I started shooting trad' my draw seemed to naturally change to a "Flemish" 2 fingered split draw (index above, middle below) I can find no information on this style apart from a little on Wikipedia. Could you advise if there's any other information anywhere else on this style or do a video on it. I've tried to adjust to a Mediterranean draw but just seem to find the Flemish draw more comfortable and natural and shoot best like this. Why has this style died out? Hope you can help. Thanks, Jason.

Jaberwock, Outdoors Pursuits. I have a friend in Taiwan that shoots that way too. Like you, I couldn’t find much info on it. The only thing I remember being told was that it was more weight on your fingers and less stability, however it works for my friend, so who knows. I guess if it works, then it works.

Do you think after youve used your lower poundage bow, you'll be able to increase the poundage again later? Second question) if you maintain good excersize and shoot regularly, does your body maintain the ability to shoot with higher poundages well?

Been wanting to get into traditional archery for a long time now and I've finally decided to get myself a recurve. Just not entirely sure what make or model to go with. Don't want to drop a bunch of money starting off and all but I don't want junk either. And I want a takedown so I can upgrade the weight of the limbs later on since I'm thinking I'll start at 30lbs. The two I've been looking at are the samick sage and southwest archery spyder. Any opinions on those or maybe something better for a starter.
