I like these guys. Haven't played a tabletop RPG in years, but these guys bring it all back and help re-kindle the interest. +1 guys, keep it up!

+Chris H I generally play for about twice a week for 6 months or so group falls apart and than another 6 months to a year passes and I get a group together again. I feel fortunate that is a lot more than most people seem to be able to fit into their lives.

What I really don't get about Druids in 5E is that each of the "druid" images in the book has an animal companion, but the mechanical character DOESN'T have an animal companion.

Well, the thing is the Druid can have a kind of animal companion. The spell Awaken can charm beast (or plants as well) for 30 days or even indefinitely, if you treat the best well enough. Although the best does not get improved statistics and you get that spell at 9th level.

Maybe it's 2 druids and 1 is in animal form. They alternate who gets to be the duck each week.

KKDragonLord LOL ... it can be, if you roll well. The two times I've ever actually tried that charm, they got critical success on the saves, even though I was using it to calm them down so we could help them, and not to draw them into combat. Ironically, with 2 druids and an ancients paladin in the party, it was the wizard who calmed the bear down and bound its wounds.

I'm really liking these videos so far. I play Pathfinder/Homebrews, but a lot of what you guys talk about here applies to tabletop RPGs in general. Keep up the fantastic work!

After you all play plenty of 5th edition I would really enjoy if you went back and did a more in depth overview of your experiences with the classes. Possibly describing both mechanics that worked or didn't, as well as fun things the character did. As someone who has only played from 3.x onward, comparisons of each class and archetype between their equivalent in previous editions would also be great.

I love every class in 5e, but my heart belongs to the Monk. What's that? You want to hit me with an arrow? *Catches arrow. Here, have it back: *Throws arrow back for eight damage.

Aw ranger gets no love. Regular range attack + hunter's mark + colossus slayer + archery style and sharpshooter feat instead of any ability score improvements and that's one hurt monster. Stay in the back and keep moving that mark. Sure you lose some attack bonus but that damage can't be beat! Love your videos guys. Best part of any Wednesday is seeing you guys uploaded a new vid. Keep it up!

I agree.. I think also that most underestimate the ranger spells...spells like spike growth and conjure animals can work out really well for a ranger

I loved the concept of Nine Swords. Similarly, I loved the addition of maneuvers to the average Fighter's moves list in 4e. What I didn't like about either is how... gamefied, or spellcastery they became. For a hybrid fighter/caster, it works well, but... there's some core disconnect I have to fight with when you have prepared spells as a swordslinger. And I don't mean in addition to; I mean when your sword techniques and battle maneuvers are prepared; when you're a master swordsman, an expert on the global scale, you have to have an eight-hour sleep to restore your martial techniques, and a meditation over a book in the morning to set aside exactly which ones you'll use and how often you'll use them. At-Will wasn't even a casting option in 3rd or 3.5e, so while Wizards didn't have access to stuff like Light at anytime, there were also sword moves dedicated champions couldn't use just... whenever. 4e fixed that issue, but it became a big issue with me of how focused 4e was on miniatures. Movement and forced movement became a bigger tactical deal, which I love, but at the same time you lost some of that element of freedom, some of those options players could take to more handle the situation outside of the expectation of the rules. There was no dedicated ten-foot shove option for many players, least not without feats focused on that, but when you're fighting an enemy near a ledge it was more forgiving in 3.5e for the DM to give you a roll and let you adapt. In Fourth, since it was so measured in what could give movement and how much, that many "squares" could be too imbalancing. Overall, I like the blend 5e strikes a pretty good bit. There were losses and gains, and we got the Battle Master which feels better to me as a class option than some of what we had before.

We had a ranger in our group and by mid-levels, he was the most devastating member of our party, taking half of a dragon's HP in one single Crit attack.

For my party, it's the rogue that is the tactical nuke. We've got a little kobold rogue, and while my dwarf fighter keeps the dinosaurs distracted and trying to hit him, she comes in and pretty much one shots them time after time after time. It's incredible to see since I can't use my usual strategy of knocking them prone.

dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/unearthed-arcana-ranger-revised They have once more went over the Ranger. I do love how they are trying to fix the class and I think this time it works really well. Specially the Beast Master one is much improved.

when I first read a bout the druid I didn't even care about the wildshape all I wanted was the companion and the casting spells and I enjoyed that character. It's a minor annoyance though that can be fixed with house rules.

Hey guys, now that you've been playing 5E a lot, how do you like the ranger builds? Do you feel like they need homebrew work to be worthwhile playing, or did they end up being an interesting class after all?
@Finkeldinken

Yes - I hope they'll have a look at it! I think it is better, the BM especially got a boost, but I am still not sold on it, which makes me sad because I've always loved playing rangers back in the day, but they're so lackluster now. Bit less with this update, tho.

They are all for 5th edition. If you're looking to be a player you would only need the top left one. Whereas if you were a DM you would need the entire top row ideally. the bottom row are pre written stories for d&d publish by the creators.
