Couple of red-faced comments here. But I personally don't mind your technique of teaching. It works for me. Recently started beatmatching and all I can say is that your vids are being regularly watched by me here. They're so helpful. Only regret is that I wish I had found them earlier. Keep it up mate.

When mixing DNB, you just need to know that because of the 87 bpm, DNB tracks are composed of 22second "blocks". Usually there are 2-3 of these "blocks" before the drop, so it's really easy to double drop... hope it helped:)

Good way off describing it with the 22 second blocks except dnb is generally about 175 ish bpm

Yeah you are correct, I meant in half time, which is 87ish

+nadeo4441 I just wrote a reply saying you were right then saw this and realise i didnt need to. Loads of people measure dnb at halftime.

+mildsteven77 I can see why people Measure it at half time… When I analyse my tunes through pioneers record box it somtimes does them at 87bpm but I have always kwown dnb to be between 170-180

Drum n Bass is 175 not 87 bpm - dont confuse people - its just Recordbox and the bpm counters in most hardware measure only the kicks, so they always give u half time readouts on breakbeat music -- learn the music properly, dont just take for granted what ur tech tells u --- and like most music, Drum n bass is split into 16 bar sections not 22 second sections,, otherwise the "second" theory would change when u play a slower or faster track - if u want to play music, and mix music, try to learn a bit about phrasing and bar counting -- Jesus Christ

Quick question, where do I start when it comes to learning music. I'm looking to get into DJing but don't know where to start when it comes to listening to music and knowing music. What should I be listening for when I do listen to my music that I want to put into a set? Could you possibly make a video all about music and what not?

I find my main issues with double drops isn't so much the timing, but controlling the output, i find myself having to compress my mixes after to control the db rise, any tips on this for live mixes? probably a video on this i haven't found yet aha peace!

Sounds to me like you are not cutting the eq correctly or not using the trim to match the overall volume of the tracks

I have a question : Firstly I am begginner.When I beatmatch 2 tracks almost perfectly , I press SYNC button , and it doesn't skip any beat , it just makes the beatmatch better.Is it good to use sync or not?

How would this be done on vinyl, where we don’t have cue points?
@tintintb1980
@tintintb1980 5 жыл бұрын
By knowing your tracks inside out and a lot of practicing. You get to a stage where you don't even count. You just "feel" and instinctively know what to do and when to do it.

In live you cant count like that right ? Pro DJs already knows the times for all their tracks ?
@Ex0rz
@Ex0rz 7 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. A DJ cant remember all their tracks. Pro DJ's have lots of new tracks that they might have not played a lot. But with digital DJing you kinda see the lenght of breakdowns etc. so theres no real need to count if you just precheck both tracks before the doubledrop.

The only part I still havent learned about double dropping, is beatmatching... I just for gods sake cant figure out how do you beatmatch two tracks when theres absolutely no drums playing. I know its all about training your ears... But still...

You can skip to the part of the track with a beat and match it there. After some time you will need to do this less and less

I think it's more easy yo do It with 4 cue buttons. In my CDJs I only have 1 and It don't save after shutting down. That's when things are not easy

Mate - ur counting method of ' 1,1,2,3 - 2,1,2,3 - 3,1,2,3 - is well off ' and so confusing for begginers -- count the bar number on the 1st beat, then say 2,3,4 on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th beat -- ie --- 1,2,3,4 - 2,2,3,4 - 3,2,3,4 -- thats how normal people count bars and beats --- LOL -- Scared for the begginers getting confused by your strange system -

Shambles1980TRealOne Most of what u said is right. But I think u mean SNARE drum not hihat - The hi hats are the treble'y hits that play at 8ths or 16ths in a bar. the SNARE drum is the big chunky hit that is usually on the 2 and 4 - Also - I dont think people should bother counting with the delay thing between the 2 and 3. They should realise about the delay thing, Realise that that is how DnB drum patterns work. But still just learn to count a normal 1,234 - 2,234 - 3,234 over the top.

Shambles1980TRealOne If ur explaining to people how to count beats, its probably best to correctly name the beats that ur counting. Yeh it can sometimes be a hand clap. But 95 times out of 100 its a snare drum.
