Shot at ARC Studios with Damo Webster playing the drums and 2 x Grammy winning Cameron Craig producing, this short video captures the spirit of the studio and the engineers expertise and helps explain why Matt Taylor won the British MPG's Rising Star award 2022.
Some of the microphones that Matt used include:
Kick Drum - AKG D25 and Neumann U47 FET
Snare Drum - Austrian Audio OC 818 on top and Shure SM57 below
Hi Hats - Beyer Dynamic M818
Toms - Neumann KM86
Overheads - Coles 4038's
Floor mic - Turner Crystals 22X
Over Kick facing snare - STC 4037
Room mics - Sontronics Sigma 2
The drum kit is a Yamaha custom recording kit. Placed in the corner of the recording space aimed in to the middle of the room and with good sight-lines to the control room.

As a drummer I’m straight up intimidated by the sheer amount of work going into capturing the sound. Better play well!

Honestly, it looks worse than it is. Believe it or not, most of the sound comes from the drummers themselves. There are quite a few mics there purely for indulgence purposes. There are a few videos on this channel which show you how to capture a great performance with 1, 2, or 3 mics.

I'm so thrown off by the drum sound not matching the video of him playing, it's doing my head in!
