He was 53 years old when he did this concert in Bercy, Paris in 2004. Truly an amazing performance by Brad Cole (keyboards, synthesizers, Vocoder), Daryl Stuermer (6 String Guitar), Leland Sklar (Bass Guitar), Chester Thompson ("Rhythm" Drums) and Phil himself (vocals, drums). It was performed in front of 20,000 + people at the "Palais Omnisport de Paris" and truly was, if not the greatest, close to the greatest live performance ever. It was from his "Finally... The First Farewell" Tour and this particular concert in Bercy started with an amazing "Drums, Drums & More Drums" track performed by Phil and his other drummer, the previously mentioned Mr. Thompson. Incidentally, this track ("In the Air Tonight") was the 17th in the tracklist sandwiched between Separate Lives and Dance into the Light. Phil had the energy he had in this song all the way through to the end of the concert (as did his musicians). Now that he can no longer drum, his son NIcholas plays drums almost as well as the old man did--literally--Phil is in his 70's now. His son was on the Domino tour with Genesis recently. Oh and of course, his daughter Lily is rapidly becoming a famous actress in her own right. So, he's still doing alright I suppose (tongue in cheek).

I've seen Phil Collins twice solo, and twice with Genesis. I've seen many many concerts over the years, and Phil Collins is as charismatic and commanding a presence on stage as anybody in rock. Funny, dramatic, intense, he literally has the audience eating right out of his hand. And that voice... Powerful and iconic.😮😮 Never disappoints.

@@L33Reacts Leland Sklar has his own YT channel where he talks about all the artists and the songs. Its like an epic backstage tour through five decades of musik history - and of course he plays the bass lines of all this songs. Since I saw his video about "In the air tonight" I hear much more of the bass in this live performance. It perfectly supports the drums.

Finally! Everyone seems to have heard the song, but few have seen this live. It is the best performance I have ever seen and one of the reasons I am a Collins fan. He is a beast on drums but can turn around and melt your heart with a ballad. Someone commented that he hoped he could be half as cool as Phil at this age. (53 yrs. old) Paris loves Phil Collins. His solo work is amazing.

Yes, it was Chester also on his drum set. He's the main drummer for the Phil Collins solo tours, since Phil does much more vocal/frontman work than he did with those Genesis tours; with Genesis, there was more opportunity to play drums, during those long instrumental sections, for instance. Now, i don't mean to say that Phil didn't play at all, on his solo tours -- of course he did, but he was doing more straight Pop songs on his solo tours, where he would play a lot of piano and sing his stuff, with his backing band.

The iconic drum fill is what eveyone talks about obviously, but for me, it's the section from 8:15 to 8:30 that i cannot comprehend. That rotating pattern between toms, snare and kick with the offbeat "ah ah ah ah" vocals is just mind-blowing. He has done that on every live version of this song I've seen, and he somehow makes it look easy.

He's so many stories and has played with Phil forever and so many others, you would not believe how many times he's recorded with many artists. 😲 Yea, that's Chester. He too has been with Phil/Genesis a long time. When they play together, incredible. Find the Genesis "Abacab" live at Wembley, fantastic drumming from both!! Have the greatest respect for Phil in understanding the incredible pain he endured while playing. He's a legend, very glad to have seen him and Genesis a few times!! 🔥 P.S. new sub. ☺️

I did send you in two more PayPal requests for live shows. Even though you cannot compare Don Henley on the drums to Phil, the guitar duo at the end is unforgettable. Procol Harum is another must see live shows. A band from the late 60's, Gary Brooker (RIP) has a voice that lasted 60 years as pure as it ever was. Both are experiences you won't want to miss. If you love live music, here's a suggestion: Phil Collins - 1985 - Live Aid Wembley, London & JFK, Philadelphia same day! Phil Collins was the only artist to play both continents during that intercontinental concert. He played Every Breath You Take/Long Long Way to Go with Sting at Wembley Stadium, London, UK, boarded a plane, flew to Philadelphia, PA, USA to perform Against All Odds at JFK stadium. When he arrived he could not find a piano that was still in tune. He still rocked it and joined in with Led Zeppelin afterwards. Bless him for that passion and effort toward a charitable cause.

Phil Collins said in 2017: “But it was great because I was with The Who. I was working with Pete Townshend just after Keith Moon died [in 1978], and I said to him, ‘Have you got anybody to play the drums? Because I’d love to do it. I’ll leave Genesis.’ And Pete said, ‘*bleep*, we’ve just asked Kenney Jones.’ Because Kenney Jones, unbeknown to most people, played on stuff when Keith was too out of it. He was far too polite for the Who. But I would have done the job. I would have joined The Who.”

Such a well-constructed song so well presented with Collins' usual attention to detail. Even the echoes are in time. His charisma and talent are off the chart. Such drama! Perfect suspense. He gets 'into' a song like few can. I totally believe what he is saying & feel the emotion. I never tire of seeing this performance (the concert is great). The ease and confidence he has is awesome. I wonder how much of what he brings results from his drama schooling (high school). If you have never seen his acting on Miami Vice as Phil the Shill, you must. He is hilarious, dramatic, and for me totally believable. The writers of the episode did a great job and I love how the ending ties back to the beginning. Maybe you could watch it online as a live feed or something.

Man you gotta do the Old Medley from Rome 2007 of In The Cage/Cinema Show/Duke's Travels/Afterglow. The drumming in Cinema Show with Chester is awesome, you have Phil singing and going back on drums throughout finishing with Chester for the epic outro.
