What happens to your lawn when you have gone an entire month without rain? That is exactly what Paul will show you in this video. He will cover what drought stress does to the lawn and a way that you can help keep the lawn alive during a drought. He will go over how he adjusted his monthly Bio-Stimulant application, why he is not using 18-0-1 GreenePunch and using higher rates or 0-0-2 MicroGreene and 7-0-0 GreeNe EfFect.

4 things. 1- why no Air8? Wouldnt that help the RGS just work all that much easier? 2- Why not just raise up the reel mower. Won't the rotary cause more stress? 3- I was fighting the exact same drought battle you were. I had to break some rules and water in the evening. I had no other way to keep the moister in the ground. 4- I have gotten really into understanding the weather a lot better to help me plan with the lawn. Check out Agrible Inc, they post youtube videos that go into some great depth. The meteorologist is super awesome, I have learned a lot.
@NExtDIYLawn
@NExtDIYLawn 5 жыл бұрын
Great questions! 1 - Because we have had zero rain for a month, ground is super dry! Obviously. Air8 can dry the ground even more in a situation like this, so we don't want to do it. That does not mean Air8 is bad! It just means that if there is not moisture in the game, and what moisture the lawn is getting, is lost quicker with the high temps than normal. SO we just want to use caution. 2. The reel mower is as high as it can go. Right at about an inch. And because the yard is so uneven, it is causing the reel mower to scalp in places WAY worse than the rotary. So for now, the rotary cut is the way to go. 3. I have been doing the same thing. Very uniformed application of water and it was still not enough! With these high temps and a month without rain, something is bound to burn up! 4. I will check it out! Thanks Keep on keeping on! - Castleberry

Great information! Here in Brunswick we got our first heavy rain this past Wednesday night since May 12. I put down Humic12 and MicroGreene earlier in the day Wednesday. We should get more rain tomorrow so I put down 18-0-1 today. Grass is looking much better only after 1 rainfall. Most 'crunchy' spots are already back to normal.

Good advice, but you missed one VERY important step. "Raise your mowing height." I live just north of Atlanta and have been in the same drought and heat. My neighbors' yards are brown, mine is green because I raised the mowing height when I saw the forecasts. The extra thick grass helps to protect the ground from drying out as much. The only watering that I have had to do was to a few trouble spots where I had renovated last year. Thank God that it has started raining again though! Finally getting all the RGS and Humic-12 washed into the soil.

I'm not a fan of using every product on the planet and Purchased NEXT to use on my vegetable garden to replace a discontinued product. I did apply RGS & Humic-12 to the turf just before this heat wave settled in and it is coming back and looking amazing. keep in mind that I am working with grass that has been on this earth longer than I have been alive and there is no irrigation because I'm on a well. BTW: My garden plants are also doing quite well with the kelp and Humic as a supplement to my normal organic program.

I know your plan is to do only liquids this year but I think you need to rethink that game plan. Of course I understand that right now is not the time to do this since you are in the midst of a drought but you definitely need to add some nitrogen in higher concentrations to the lawn and you will see that thing explode back into health. Synthetics would be great or even Milo at this point would be better than nothing. I understand that being a employee of GC might limit what you are able to do with your lawn but personally I don't think the liquids are doing enough. Just my two cents worth. Keep up the great videos.

@@mcnell311 I agree 100%. If you watch other KZfaqrs in the lawn care community they all pretty much started slinging the N-ext products around the same time and also started posted videos of them almost at a predetermined schedule. I'm sure some are receiving some commission or kickback. They may provide some benefit but the time it takes them to produce those results is over several years of countless applications. Totally not worth it. You can get a nice healthy thick green lawn using other products like Screaming Green or Carbon X and some PGR.

Great strategy and good points. I think the key is to stay flexible to the dictates of the weather. Here in northwest NC, we suffered the same dry and hot spell, just not as extreme as you. Now the tables have turned and the tropical rains have come in. Forecast calling for possible 5 INCHES of rain in the next 4 days. (had almost 2 inches in less than 36 hrs) So, I am assuming all this water will "flush" the lawn and the need for a micro replenishment will be coming soon? Thanks!

From my understanding you shouldn’t apply during the time of day when you’re at that temp but earlier in the day or later that evening when it’s cooler is fine. You’ll just want to make sure it’s watered in either by rain, using the hose end sprayer since it has a higher output of water, or sprinkler.

Most people dont realize how HOT it gets here in the summer...lol Just watch you water usage here in Katy water is pricey...ugh so I would start with low water times and then work up from there so you dont get sticker shock when you get first months water bill 😀. What sucks is most of Texas must also pay sewer charge for every gallon used even though the water is soaking in to the ground. Would be nice if we could get separate water meter for irragation. Good luck that's a large project with that square footage but you wont regret dragging hoses all around the yard anymore 👍

@@r.george4833 I own a Sprayers Plus battery backpack this is good option for you too, but I personally like more the hose end sprayer for Next products applications because it takes me less time doing 10K sqf lawn and with the practices I've become an expert with hose management.

I know your business is to display and sell Green county products. Unfortunately you don't sell it here. Matt Martin showed pictures from research by Acadian sea kelp company, they showed that soluble seaweed extract makes a difference in drought conditions. So if your in a place Green County won't ship to, try Acadian soluble seaweed extract, made in Canada!

That would be an awesome video. Btw what you and Senoir Perry (and the rest of the social media lawn care community) have taught everyone about soil has been invaluable in correcting my lawn. Excellent work my man.

Paul, what is the best approach? To alternate the RGS and Humic12 or increase the bio stim pack? If it is just a cost measure then I am ok with the increasing. Also do you think it’s a good idea to add the D thatch in. I plain to add the D thatch to my lawn starting this month. I have some struggling spots that appear thin and matted and all around not as vivid as most of the lawn. If you Are ever interested in a centipede lawn project feel free to hit me up I’ll be more than willing to work with any of your recommendations as I currently do through your DIY network. Keep up the good work Big Guy!!!

I am doing 3 oz per 1k sq. ft. of Air8 and 0-0-2 MicroGreene once a month and I am alternating between RGS and Humic12, 3 oz. per 1k, once a week. I am also doing a monthly app of 18-0-1 GreenePunch. Now that we are in summer months, for June, July and August, I will do 7-0-0 GreeNe EfFect and D-thatch once a month. So 3 total apps of those. Hope that helps. II will most certainly keep on keeping on if you do as well! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment. - Castleberry
