The "art" of Warhol, the genius, is producing art that flies in the face of what most of society considers "art," pieces that aren't aesthetically beautiful or pleasing. People who see Warhol's work nearly always have a visceral reaction to it, we feel insulted and think, "THIS is art?!" Warhol's work is a savage critique of modern life, one whose value and meaning is incapsulated by a 53-cent supermarket soup can. To be clear, while I appreciate and even agree with Warhol's message that modern life is banal, every day a slog of degradation and meaningless humiliation, I don't enjoy being reminded of this. Who does? No, I would much rather surround myself with art that inspires, emphasizes the positive, celebrates the beauty of life and nature. After a long life, I will take blissful ignorance over harsh reality, Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel over a can of cheap, mass-marketed soup. .
