The Eves seem to have a better transient response, and better, what I call, "contrast" in the mids/highs, while the Focals have a bit of lower contrast in the mids/high mids (by high contrast I mean ability to show what is dark/bright better, instead of making everything sound more or less the same).

Got the Eve Audio SC305. Quite harsh in the mid/upper mid area. Gonna try correction. If it doesn't blow me away, gonna return, as these sound better! (And have Focal Solo6 BE, which I love at my studio)

I find the Eves boomy and constricted, not very good for listening IMO, maybe good for mixing work. Focals win in the enjoyment department. I prefer "ribbon" twitter though, this is the the eves' point. Thanks for these reviews!! Really helpful. I suggest the addition of the Dynaudio BM5 MKIII and Eve SC207 to the test bench. EDIT: I think that the Eves are not boomy, and have very good mids... I actually prefer them to the Focals. I must have been deaf that day. They're really revealing!

sc205s are NOT boomy. Quite the opposite: some people complain their time domain response is so good, that they actually don't show "boominess" well enough and warn other mixers to watch the 100-300Hz region.

Eve Audio 3khz bump very noticeable to me but don't know if it is from room response or speaker character.

eve 3khz boost is less when u listen in far field, in under 1 meter they have that boost

I'm listening on my phone atm and the focal is definitely more open than the eve from the first track at least. 👍🏿 Will check again on monitors at a later date for more accurate info.

This is a difficult comparison. The SC205 sounds fuller at times, and unnatural at times. While the Alpha 50 EVO does sound thinner, the tonality is actually more correct.

i agree about Eve audio better as in this comment section though, BUT these SC series seem quality issue... (i am an owner of SC204 and just considering to buy Alpha evo) really great speaker but selected low-cost capacitors for speakers and have reported this issue from many people. basically broke them within 5 years

Yep, one of my 205s just blew due to dodgy capcitor in around 5 years. I'm iking the sound of the Focal tho must admit. There does seem to be a bit of mud tho in that mid bass range around 150 to 300

@@DonFe agree, it sounds like muddy (or not tamed at low frequency?) compared to Eve audio lol after wrote this, i bought Focal evo 50 but satisfying now! also it has power protection!

@@DonFeif you prefer low frequency more than high frequency, it would be great choice in my opinion. i feel this speaker focus to modern musics like EDM/hip-hop/pops with synth tracks. not boomy but slightly it has rounder sound than Eve audio. in my case, i use monitor speakers for PC and near-field situation. previous speaker (Eve sc204) has bass-reflex port on the back and low frequency often reflected to the wall, it mask mid and high frequency. but this Focal Evo has front bass-reflex, that's why i chose this speaker. it is good for my small room and well works now i don't make any music and just listening them so i'm not sure my impression is fine for you, sorry! also, KRK audio app was help for my setup. not good as SoundID Reference of SonarWorks and neumann tools but it has some analysis function, polarity check, positioning tool.
