Just got my Alpha 65 today, theyre great, i've had JBL LSR308's and these hit harder, there is no Hiss, the quality is immaculate, the Specs say 40hz -3db, but 35hz is just as loud on them without even burning them in, bass is more detailed in the focals.

The woofer amp of the 308 is too weak and struggles at higher volumes. The Alpha certainly hits harder.

I've listened to those exact speakers in a music gear shop, in a special "listening room". There were about 70cms of space between them and the wall behind. The speakers were right next to each other, the JBLs forming the inner pair and the focals the middle one, and there was a pair of Alpha 65s which I didn't listen to, forming the outer pair. My impression is that the difference in the lower frequencies that one can hear in the video is much less than in reality. From my experience, the JBLs low frequencies resonated much more and seemed loose and uncontrolled, whereas the Focals had a full but tight bass, with high fidelity. On the other side, the JBL's upper midrange is glorious and engaging, and this, in contrast to the difference in bass control, is apparent in the video.

I purchased a set of Evo 50s about two weeks ago as an upgrade from my JBL 305LSRs, and I hate to say that they have left me disappointed. The DSAudio review nailed exactly what I've been hearing...much more natural and clearer mids on the JBLs...particularly when tracking guitars. I've A/B'd back and forth to confirm I wasn't crazy. I will readily admit I'm not a pro audio expert in the least, but to my ears and for my situation, the Evo 50 isn't a good match. I just put in a request to exchange them for a set of 305 MkII's, which appear to have a little wider dispersion vs the LSRs. YMMV...just my experience.

Your right the jbl’s are more mid forward with a much wider sweet spot. The focals are particularly pretty flat monitors, if you have the jbl’s and focals that would actually be a very good duo to use together.

I have these jbls and they do sound good witg exceptional stereo imaging and crazy value for money, however I'm now having problems with them being rear ported and now close to a wall, looking for set of front ported and these focals looking good

Hey DSAUDIO, can we please have a comparison with the new PMC range? They released the 6-2 and I want to hear them with the Nuemann KH310/120 and Genelec One before purchasing the best one for my studio. PMC have released a whole new catalogue of studio monitors which look insane!

JBL! Thank you for applying DSP room correction on your room, now it's pretty obvious what exactly each monitor set sounds like! Hope you will recompare someday Adam T8V with Yamahas HS8 and JBL308mk2

Considering the the price difference in 2024 between these two there is more in it than the actual difference in sound quality...the Focals are nearly twice the price of the JBL but I certainly don't hear any reflection of that price jump in the sound quality. Marginal differences at best. JBL better value all round.

I find the Focals to be more like an immersive sound and flat, which is what I'm looking for in order to replace my HS5s

I want to upgrade my JBL 305s but the only true upgrade seems to be a pair of A7X's or LYD8's.. Until I can get those, I hear no point in upgrading.

Easily preferred the jbl. Focal mids sound veiled.

Differences are minor. The focals have a bit more open sound, but it's negligible on many tracks. JBL is a better value at half the price of the focal's.

for those saying JBL, i have LSR308 and focal Evo 65, Focal is a much better speaker, much flatter, which is what you want, JBL is a glorified Hifi speaker, coloured sound, good for testing a mix, but producing, no.
