Ireland is doomed unless something drastic is done to repatriate the majority of non-natives in this country, and very soon.

The only way that LUAS even remotely is usable by ordinary law-abiding people is the presence of heavily built mostly Eastern European security personnel, probably hired at great cost by the operator, paid by the taxpayer and fare payer to keep the less law abiding people at bay. I seldom go into the city centre now since I have had a fall and now LOOK OLD. Human nature being what it is most nefarious individuals will not tangle with a middle aged or young man, no matter how blind or incompetant he may be in physical confrontations. They do not know the capabilities of a younger man around the town but can easily guess the vulnerability of an older man and most women. Having more police would be great but the force cannot attract enough new recruits as it is. Same with bus drivers, front facing retail and nurses, basically any sector in a public facing role are all finding it very hard to attract new recruits to replace or grow on existing people.

The Metro will cost 10 times the price it was quoted at and will take 20 years to build its been in the planning stages for over 30 years and the government paid 300 million for consultancy the luas works great in dublin cheap to build and fast why there never a luas to the airport and swords is baffling

What do you mean Dublin, Ireland it the same everywhere I worked in Irish rail in Athlone,I was beaten so badly that I have 4 plates in my face lost sight in my eye and suffer from pdsd,haven't been back to work in over a year ,I'm a 58 year old man who wouldn't hurt a fly

@@irishjoed lol I don't think it's that deep man. I studied my masters in urban planning, my thesis was around the Dutch city centres and the ease and practicality of walking, cycling and accessing public transport and how it opens so much more space for people. Dublin lacks that ambition but it does make for a really high quality of life. I don't want to be rude but I think this hesitation is just because people by the the time they're in their late 30s or early 40s get set in their ways and don't like the concept of change. So they look for an excuse to bat away alternative ideas. Labelling it a conspiracy theory is sort of mad, but I guess we all need a hobbie.

Paris has got really bad it is worse than dublin. I was there 6 years ago and it was amazing, I was there again 6 months ago and it was terrible, the number of people harassing you on the street was crazy and they weren't French.

Yes, I went to Paris in 1981 and always planned to return. No way now. I lived in Dublin from 2000 to 2003 and loved it. I felt safe, it was friendly and a pleasure to live in. Now I wouldn't touch it. Its not my Dublin any more its dodgy city.

From the US, and first time back since 2018, and both my wife and I thought Dublin has gone way down hill. Not sure of who runs things here, but in America the liberals have destroyed the big cities (NYC, Chicago, Boston, LA, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, etc….)

Affordable rent and house prices would be the first step. Get all the drug addicts and alcoholics off the street. Sort out the taxi drivers. Better public transport all around the country.

Yeah an improvement in the public transport would be massive. Encourage more apartment building, walking and cycling initiatives just like London, Paris and Vienna is doing. The increase in Garda presence would be great but I think some more fundamental work needs to be done long term to stop the stream of social issues coming out of areas like East Wall or Sheriff Street onto the city centre. Having guards will deter crime short term but it won't fix the root problem. There is sadly a lot of negativity in Dublin, coupled now with racism and plain stupidity. A bit of pragmatism amongst everyone would go a long way.

The Dublin City Centre is destroyed with all the transport available.Trams, Buses, Taxis, cycle lanes, Dart,Trains, and outside of Dublin nothing. Try getting a bus in a small village in the country. Sorry, forget about it. No transport exists That's where tourist's and locals are stuck. It's a total disgrace!

Dublin has far more than the rest of the country as far as public transport goes yet it's still wildly mismanaged, it is an absolute nightmare and becoming more unsafe and unreliable by the week. Have to cut corners to pay for all the freeloading, anti-Irish newcomers I suppose. It's "our strength".
