I agree completely man and here's a tip... preload is your friend :) I'm loving my purchase, the stock DDX suspension is OAK for an average and healthy adult - All the critics need to look elsewhere if they're too short and/or fat for this dream bike.

I'm not surprised you never bottomed the 790, from new they were way over sprung. I'm 80kg and put a 690 rear spring in mine (and lighter fork springs), now it actually moves! I think they sorted out the 890, so it's way more supple than the 790 off the factory floor. Great video, love your work Tom!

Man that washout close to the beginning of the video even got my heart pumping. Good reflexes bud and I really wanted the Desert X, but went with the 1290 SA-R primarily for servicing reasons. I had a Multistrada Enduro Pro and loved it BUT, off road bike it was not. Gravel roads were fine but nothing too technical. I hear people talking about how top heavy a T7 is, well they have never ridden a Multistrada..lol. Great vid bud...😄that parrot.

I have 8k miles on my DesertX in 7 months. Around 2k miles off-road. I dialed in preload front and rear. It won't blow through the travel now.

So glad this bike is getting good reviews pretty much universally. I hoped it'd be this good I bet it feels naughty riding a Ducati in this way, this makes it even more desirable. lol It seems Ducati hasn't lost it's touch, even with Audi in the drivers seat. Even more excited to see if the new 698 engine can produce an even more focused off-road bike right in the 790/890's wheelhouse.

Hey mate Interesting review 👍😎 Two year in and 45,000km on my 2019 790Adv R.. I spent another 18 months on the 2021 890Adv R and 28,000km I took the X out after trying out the T7 and Tiger 900 Rally Pro… The X is a wicked machine Beautiful, comfortable, brilliant road manner and oh so sexy… but at a premium… especially adding must have the extras. The motor is sublime… same unit as my Hypermotard so no fault there.. it’s addictive The suspension is unfortunately not up to the rougher high speed stuff, as you experienced yourself However I suggest you take the 2023 890AdvR out for a run… Here is South Africa the base price even with the Rally Pack extra you get a machine that will take you anywhere and does not need anything further… The X Rally…. Now that would have to be explored further indeed… Happy trail 👌

I have heard that to change the airfilter it a tank off job, but they are a nice looking thing.

You should do a test of a Vstrom 800. It would be interesting to hear what you think of it.

That was awesome mate, no doubt the Ducati is fun. I’d say it would ride quite like the 1200 enduro just with a little less weight and power. Can’t wait to see how you go in big desert. I’m pretty sure you do it easy for the size of bike it is. Eagerly anticipating the next instalment 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

Haven't been on that track, will need to investigate! So taking the Desert X to next year's Open Roads Rally instead of the KTM 500?

You definitely need to give the tuareg a go. Maybe a tad underpowered compared to the desert x, but I bet the fun factor is higher.

Looks like it could do with a larger rear sprocket would give a more useful 2nd gear.

You need to ride a new 890 for comparison. Much better than the 790 imo

Take it on a long, remote trip much like your northern adventure one and then report back.

Pretty sure you could ride anything well in those conditions.

Only problem is you don’t want to drop the pretty Ducati off-road and make it not so pretty 😩
