Ducati’s new £14,995 Streetfighter is a naked Panigale V2 with virtually nothing taken away…except for the fairing. And that’s a very good thing because Bologna’s ‘baby’ superbikes have always had a sublime balance of power and handling - a bit like Suzuki’s old GSX-R750.
The Ducati Streetfighter V2 follows in the footsteps of its V4 sister - a lary, high tech tour de force with a 205bhp MotoGP-derived engine, but that’s also a bike that operates at such an otherworldly level it only makes sense on track. This is where the smaller version comes in.

He is quite the reviewer. I take his input into consideration before buying a bike. He was a main deciding factor when I pulled the trigger in my Svartpilen 701. He said it was in his top 3 most fun bikes to ride and his only input was they should have put a smaller wheel up front with proper tires. It’s in the shop getting both right now! Haha!

I love the bike, I really do and would consider one. However I sold my Panigale V2 last year due to having had 3 reasonably serious warranty issues in 2k miles but much more importantly the fact that in summer heat the bike was simply unusable, it’s a good 10-20% hotter than the 959, even when back to backing with a mates 899 that ran over 10 degrees cooler, the bike just became too hard to use in anything but cold conditions. I would urge anyone to test ride a V2 on a warm day and make sure you can live with it. I bought mine in feb, had one of the first and by June I was struggling. I’m still gutted even now, I thought the Panigale was a keeper

I guess now with the electronics…..
@ReferenceFidelityComponents
@ReferenceFidelityComponents 2 жыл бұрын
Electronics go a long way to taming modern higher powered bikes. I rode a 998 around the IoM in the Centinery TT and loved the way it handled but it was cripplingly uncomfortable and hard on the suspension. Managed a quicker time on (the then) new to me Aprilia RSVR which surprisingly I much prefered despite it's lesser 128bhp at the crank. It seemed to have more mid range stomp, (gruntier than a warthog eating truffles) sounded amazing and was way more comfy and turned in more like a race bike. It was that experience which switched me onto Aprilias from Ducatis for the road and despite riding much faster machinery since then, those last non electronically neutered visceral vee twins remain etched in my memory as the most rewarding bikes I ever road as you had to work harder and they didn't flatter poor riding as much as modern stuff does. In fact I still have a 2001 rsvr and will never sell that bike as it's part of me now. I could be very temoted to a pinagali vee 2 which I consider as Ducati's all time best road bike and possibly the most reliable engine they've ever made too.
@theonlyredspecial
@theonlyredspecial 2 жыл бұрын
@@ReferenceFidelityComponents Yes of course electronics play a long part to taming higher powered bikes. But my point was that 150hp now is not considered 'higher powered' as in 2021 we are in a world of 200+hp bikes (My H2 has been remapped to put out 260hp to the bike tyre, with a Vandeom H2R race system on it, chain changes on the supercharger, changes to clutch plates and springs) - without a lot of electronic intervention that would be very difficult to ride on the road. Its putting out more than twice the horsepower of the 998S FE at the crank. Thanks for sharing your views of the Ducati compared to an Aprilla and how you moved to Aprilla. My friend also moved to Aprilla at the time and interestingly he had nothing but engine issues - which is almost ironic considering that Ducati of the 1990s were considered very unreliable. In fact I owned a 916 in the 90's after watching Carl Fogarty win races for most of my youth and the indicators cut out on a long journey to Cork in Ireland, when it started to Rain. We can all thank Audi for their input into the electrics after they bought Ducati as part of the VW Group. I was quite happy to pick up a testastretta 998 Final Edition a while ago, to keep as a collectors piece, very hard to find now!) Aprilla made some great bikes using the Rotax engine in the day, but its sadly not a bike now that has increased in value or seen as 'iconic' - certainly the prices for my 998 S FE have gone up and you often see a few selling for close to £30,000. We live in interesting times with more available, reliable bikes open to a wide audience of riders with different tastes.

@NoName76554
@NoName76554 2 жыл бұрын
The V4 does have a "reduced power" mode, which drops peak power to 120hp or so. I have mine setup so the Street mode uses reduced power. The Sport and Race modes use full power, with Race mode having the max throttle sensitivity. Seems like the best of both worlds. Street mode when cruising around town, and full power modes when conditions allow.

@NoName76554
@NoName76554 2 жыл бұрын
@@heart.of.ease.3659 I don’t know what the peak torque number is in reduced power mode, it’s not listed in the manual. But it feels very tame compared to full power mode. You can really notice the difference. Reduced power mode doesn’t completely solve the low speed snatchy throttle that was mentioned in the V2 review. Sounds like neither the V2 or V4 are great at very low speeds. But I don’t spend much time in city traffic on my V4 so I can live with it.

@@NoName76554 Thanks for your reply, I'd be curious to know if it's up there around the 75ftlbs torque range to make it worth considering! For all of my Ducati I'd change the front Sprocket to a 14t from the stock 15t and add the Ducati Spacers Throttle Body Spacer to eliminate the play in the Throttle, those Two mods completely transform and smooth out any low speed city issues. A must have for any ducati 😊

One of my favourite current road bikes. I'm so glad that Ducati have recognised the need for a high performance vee twin as a better more useabke road bike than the race developed v4. Both Aprilia and Ducati's vee4 monster power machines are just too much for the road to be anything close on real world useable or sendible. Vee twins were always more in tune and ideally suited to road riding imho. I think I prefer the Panagali Vee twin which is simply sublime. They've all got too ecprnsive now sadly. Build quality on these new Ducatis is amazing.

How would old Ducati Monster 1100 stand against these new Ducati’s? I have one and it can easily wheelie with throttle on first and second gear and it has just 95hp. Wondering how those new bikes would feel with all that power. But I assume that power delivery is very restricted on first 3 gears even though it has 150hp, because even old air cooled monster doesn’t feel that slow up to 110mph.

The old air cooled, two valve Monsters have much more low down strength. Just where it's needed on the road. More fun, engaging and great for 'off the throttle' wheelies . The newer panigale engines were made as short stroke, oversquare, high revving machines for racing. They are still exciting in a different way. However for me I prefer the air cooled bikes. Sadly emissions laws have killed them off and the new 1100 scrambler is not really the same. I would keep hold of your old Monster if I were you 🙂

@Notoxic30
@Notoxic30 2 жыл бұрын
Depends right, expain better? If heat is a problem, then STRs and Duke are better, if you looking for smooth engine, then the oteher two wins again, if you want the coolest looking one then Ducati wins, if you want most powerful, then ducati wins, if you want the most economical then the duke wins, and the rs and v2 are about the smae fuel consumption. Dunno , for me I think (price aside) ducati is the best of them.

Always enjoy your reviews Michael, …but somehow you seem a little underwhelmed by this? Could it be too neutered?? Electronic torque limiting maps gears 1 to 3, looks like a massive mid range dip on the dyno charts? Pricey considering it’s lacking cruise control, heated grips etc. One question for you, which would you pick,….this new V2 Streetfighter or the Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory 🤔…. I think I know which one you’d go for 😉

I've owned almost 14 Ducati's from 2007 until now, most of them the new models. Their reliability isn't an issue at all, could've been either a manufacturing defect which can happen to any manufacturer or the way your friend broke in the bike. Hope you reconsider !

I've owned Ducati's for 20+ years (currently a Monster 1200s) and I've always had an excellent experience. Find a good dealer - even if a bit of travel is needed - and you'll be in fine shape.

@@IDontKnow-bb6mt if you do decide to purchase one hopefully you can find a good dealer. The main thing with them is to make sure you follow the break in as recommended, they can see your data logging during that time and some have had their warranty voided by just thrashing on the bike. Apart from that, if you get an exhaust through the dealer it's also full warranty, and lastly if you live in a very dusty area, don't install the sprint filter and instead use the stock paper filter because the sprint racing filters have issues sealing and keeping out the fine dust, which leads to excessive oil consumption and eventually a new motor sooner haha. Apart from these aspects you'll be gold !

Been debating to buy the V2 or V4. I don’t understand the point about the V4 having too much power. I currently ride a 200hp ZX14r and never thought it was too much. Worried it’ll feel slow compared to my Ninja as I would be selling the Ninja to fund this. Anyone understand what Neevesy, and numerous other journalists, mean about it being too much for the road?

I have a GSXR Hayabusa over 100 mph in first gear you're talking to me about too much power LOL but I do love this bike more upright more comfortable naked bikes to me are more appealing for the streets when I ride my Hayabusa I am so beat up and I was thinking about getting bigger Sprocket in the back to take advantage of the power at the low end

@@richardcerritelli9657 Yeah I get it. My point is, if you have tall gearing, 200hp, and still can’t put it all down without practically laying on top of the handlebars, smaller gear ratios and a more upright position isn’t going to help you out the power down so it’s not going to be noticeably faster.
