I managed to hitch a test ride on my first Ducati at the MCN festival of motorcycling in May. I’d wanted to try a Scrambler for a long time so was super excited! But was it a hit or a fail with me? Did the old Ducati tales of suspect electronics rear their ugly head? Watch to find out!

I decided to update my post. I ended up buying this model and have put about 3000 miles on it to date. It definitely has good power and is very enjoyable to ride. No power throttling issues whatsoever. I did have a warranty issue within the first 1000 miles though. There is a sensor at the gear shifter that went bad so the electronics display couldn’t determine what gear I was in. The dealer was able to replace it and it’s fine now. But I learned that there isn’t an U.S. warehouse of parts for repair and replacement. Everything comes from Italy. And I can tell you that isn’t fast. Expect to be in the shop for 2 weeks while you wait for the part order to process, ship and then be installed and repaired.

I've ended up buying a Monster 937 recently. Absolutely love it, it's my first Ducati so we'll see how it fares in terms of reliability. But hopefully being as I'm on the same continent as the company if any issues arise it shouldn't take as long to get the parts.

That's some audible piston slap.. Really loved the looks on these bikes but not 100% sold on the fact that this 'sound' still persists despite multiple iterations of the 1100 scrams

if increase revs lose power your clutch is not fully released, loosen the cable, as ducati scrambler BHP starts at 8000 rpm - 10,000 rpm, so if it is losing power at full throttle it is the clutch 100%. I had same problem with nightshift and the cafe racer versions and i fixed them both in this way. Otherwise its the valves. The ducati assembly is in Thailand and the Thais tighten the clutch too much. and overset the throttle too either too few or too high revs idle

It 100% wasn't anything to do with the clutch. The bike was literally cutting all power as if the killswitch had been hit or ignition switched off at anything past 3/4 throttle. In any case, it wasn't my bike it was a demonstrator, so it will have been their problem to solve not mine thankfully!

I wonder if there was some kind of limiter on it? I don't think I could live with that instrument style. The speed twin or the z900rs are much better.

Definitely no limiter on it. The power went completely anywhere over 3/4 throttle, didn't come back on until I rolled the throttle back! I mentioned to the Ducati staff when we were done and they quickly hushed the bike away!

@@monkeybutt9944 nope. The fuelling cut off completely at anything past 3/4 throttle. As in, the bike died completely until I rolled back off. Using anything up to that 3/4 throttle there was no issue at all, it accelerated smoothly.

So, I was at the dealership looking at this same model today. Apparently, the first 1000 km the motorcycle is throttle limited to allow for proper breaking in. After the first scheduled maintenance, the throttle limiter is removed and you’re good to go.

If that's the case I can safely say I have never experienced a throttle limiter like this, that abruptly cuts the power completely at anything past 3/4 throttle. It should certainly be mentioned when taking one out for a test ride. When I mentioned it to the staff they took the bike away before I could even take some pictures of it!

@@roberts761 yes please, I’d be very interested to hear about your experience. I am by no means badmouthing Ducati or the Scrambler, I am just an average rider doing a few test rides and giving my thoughts on the bikes, whether they are positive or negative. I actually liked the bike itself more than I expected, but that issue ruined the experience for me. If it is intentional, it could be dangerous, especially with an inexperienced rider on board!

@@ukveganbikers I received my new motorcycle and have ridden it on a couple of times. I did not experience the dramatic limitations that you did. I read through the manual and the system is RPM limited to around 6000 RPM for the first 1000km, 8000 RPM from 1000km to 2500km and then the limits are removed after that. The bike rides very well and so far, I am happy with it. I'll keep you posted on any experiences I have.

I am going to try and get a test ride on one at a dealers at some point as I actually liked the bike itself more than I expected, it was just that glitch that ruined it for me, so I'd like to get a proper experience on one! I’d be interested to hear from anyone who has actually owned one of these, or any modern Ducati, from new. Did it have a limiter on it for the first few 100 miles that cut the power when reaching 3/4 throttle? And by cutting out, I mean completely, as if the ignition had been switched off, not like hitting a rev limiter, until you rolled back the throttle and it came back. Many people are saying this is the case, but I have never experienced a limiter cut in so abruptly.

its your clutch is not fully releasing. Thailand assembly the Thai mechanics on the assembly line and service centers tighten the clutch too much on all of them, Just loosen the clutch and it will be fixed

What riding mode were you in? I'm fairly certain that has something to do with it.

It was in active mode, but trust me this was nothing to do with that. I have ridden many bikes with riding modes and none of them actually cut the power to the engine. Pretty sure there’d be lawsuits against Ducati if they were all like this!

@@ukveganbikers i have the same bike and it does not have this issue. Maybe it's like a demo bike and thats why they put some sort of limiter (just a guess)

@@GatisStrods it definitely wasn’t a limiter. It was a fault and it could have been dangerous. When I mentioned it to the Ducati guys they quickly hushed the bike away.

@@ginoasci2876 more than enough! If it wasn’t for that annoying glitch on this particular bike it would have been a lot of fun! And it handled so sweetly too! I’d like to try one again at some point, it’s just finding the time!
