Chris has just finished riding the KTM Super Duke R so we thought it would be a good time to compare it to the Ducati Srtreetfighter V4S.

I owned the KTM first, then the SFV4S.. I have to say that the Ducati made a better daily rider for me. The engine on the KTM was vibrating too much at higher revs, and it made it feel uncomfortable in the handle bars and foot pegs. Also very very unstable at higher speeds, I felt my front end wobble a few times going on the highway. The SFV4S on the other hand was extremely stable, power delivery is great and smooth. As a daily rider sometimes you run late so you have to take the tolls instead of the city streets, you can do it both here comfortably.

Stability issue is resolved by optional adjustable WP steering dampener. The more aggressive you ride the more you’ll benefit with this upgrade. I am a very aggressive rider and it resolved stability issue 100%. Honestly with race exhaust and Akra map I consider SDR the smoothest machine when it comes to vibrations. I am quite sensitive to this (more than average rider) and I love SDR in lower gears so much more than most bikes in terms of vibrations. For example Pike Peak Multi V4 is not good for my taste in that sense even with the exhaust.

The SEMI NAKED Streetfighter looks are in the eye of the beholder. I like things that look different. I own a 2018 Super Duke 1290r and a recent purchase of a 2019 MV Agusta Dragster 800rr Pirelli edition. I looked hard at the Streetfighter but wanted something small and light with a F1 sounding triple. Triples are very similar but rougher version of a smooooth V4. I do not like too smooth a motor. The Super Duke is STREET useable RPM vs Streetfighter HIGH RPM TRACK USE RPM. The SD makes all its power and torque all below 9500 rpm. In fact the SD makes more horsepower and torque than the Streetfighter until 10,000 rpm. Do you normally ride a bike around town 10,000 plus rpm all the time. You can not go wrong with either bike. There will always be top tier halo bikes where their tech will filter down to other bikes. Truthfully, middle weights are the Goldilocks bikes. Small, light useable street power. I think V2’s and triples are the best motors out there both power and maintenance. V4’s are difficult to work on with very expensive parts. I would not want a V4 out of warranty until a few more are around. Great video. You really can not go wrong with either. I own my Beauty and the Beast. I guess I could have 2 Beauties and the Beast. I have own Ducati’s in the past and nice to look at. Keep the great videos coming!

For me it was the engine characteristics which made the KTM a better road bike for my daily rides through the hills than the other super nakeds (although I haven't ridden the Streetfighter). You can ride that torque wave, even being lazy with the gears, and still make remarkably rapid progress. Of course I've been of that opinion since the late '90s, when I swapped from a GSX-R750 to a TL1000S. The Super Duke ticks the same boxes. Just with bigger ticks.

My Streetfighter has just hit 1800 miles, 0 issues, and 0 heat issues here in Miami!! Another reason this bike is soo good!!! Removing the stock exhaust is a must !! I honestly can’t find any flaws with the bike, cruise control would be nice. Just an incredible motorcycle!!!! This guy is one of the best in the business!!! The Ducati Performance wind deflector makes a world of difference at high speeds. Also diverts the air over your phone. Wouldn’t want to lose that at a 150-mph!!!!

I respect Chris's opinion on the track part of the review, since he is an expert in that department. But talking about street & road use I disagree with his conclusion. With KTM you have a power from 4k rpm and short gears, that all together makes it perfect street fighter. On the Duc Streetfighter you need to keep engine above 7k rpm to get appropriate pull, which is far beyond all reasonable street speeds on any gear apart from 1. Even in Russia there are no speedlimits for motorcyclists, Duc is too fast to ride in a proper powerband. If to buy one of these two - I would go for Panigale V4S )))

It's true that the SF V4 starts ripping your arms of at about 7k rpm but it's still very quick between 4k-7k. The Duke is on another level but it didn't feel as smooth in my opinion. Both are great.

The real question is, what's the best used market super naked bike? Obviously that rules out the Ducati SF V4 but the MT-10, Speed Triple R, S1000R, Tuono, and 1290 SDR are still in the running. You can find an example of all of these bikes from the 2015-2016 model year for about $8000 USD (Tuono a bit more in most cases). It's a question I'm pondering right now, I've got a Street triple that I love to death but I want more torque and some better creature comforts so I'm heavily leaning toward the S1000R right now as it seems to be the best all rounder but the 1290 SDR torque is very tempting. The Speed Triple and MT-10 seem like they would be easier to live with but they're just not all that exciting to me, visually I think they're the worst looking of the bunch and they're also down on power by a fair margin when compared to everything else. The Tuono seems like too much of a race inspired bike for me personally, I like to go quick around corners but I don't think I'd ever get to the edge of the tire on a Tuono platform and tap the knifes edge of performance out of it. The S1000R heated grips, cruise control, quickshifter, traction control, ABS, and serviceability are all swaying me heavily toward the S1000R.

I’ve a ‘19 s1000r sport , has proven to be top notch so far since I bought it last year , very reliable & a great all rounder , wouldn’t have the character of v twins or v4’s alright ,I got a test ride on a tuono v4 1100 factory a few months ago & was very impressed from the sound of the engine but don’t think I would buy one for daily use regards reliability wise but the ktm has my interest at the moment because Bmw are very slow in bringing out the gen 3 s1000r, mt10 should get an update soon too & that engine does have bags of character ,

Hi Chris. Please can you review Aprilia Tuono 1100 and compare it with others? Because as said by others, its the best super-naked bike. Thanks.

Owned Panigale V4S , amazing bike for the track, but useless and utter painful at speeds under 90mph on the street. Currently own Gen 3 SDR for 3 years now and it is phenomenal for twisty but flowing mountain roads. I love long wheelies, love how engine feels in 3rd and 4th. The torque! Love effortless power wheelies in 2nd gear. Love SDR sound with race exhaust. For me SDR is the ultimate street bike, but I am getting antsy about Streetfighter lately.

Follow up. Rented SF V4S for a day. Rode about 150 miles thru some great roads. For me it is SuperDuke hands down for street use. SF is Panigale. Period. With SDR you are always in power band, twist throttle and you get loads of torque and bike wants to lift. With SF and it’s endless tach range, by the time you spool it up to its best rpm, you are doing Mach 2 and even 3rd gear seems too tall for flowing mountain roads. I was on 2020 or 2021 model and my low fuel light came on after like 80 miles. Lol. And v4 puts out tons of heat, something I had forgotten from my Panigale V4S days. Unless you really want to lots of track and can’t have two bikes, I highly recommend SuperDuke. My 2 cents.

That was the comparison I was looking for, though still hugely unsure which I would choose. I like a bit of Sunday naughty fun and the Mrs is none the wiser, kind of.

Are you answering the question of which bike, standing in a Ducati dealership? Lol. Both wonderful machines regardless...I’d personally take Ducati if doing a track day every second weekend but ktm for road bike and occasional track day...from a SDR GT owner, who has ridden these two in question.

The only thing I dont like in the 1290 is the headlight I feel like its a Civic headlamp you dissasemble and slap it vertically in the bike And this is just my preference

Just goes to show how looks are subjective. Do not get me wrong the Duck is handsome but for me and my sense of style, the KTM is the business. I know power etc the Duck has it but for the simple fact of sound/power/looks if I win the lotto. The KTM is it

Smaller capacity (relatively speaking) but higher revving engines might be offering better rideability at those sick power levels. Short-shifting an inline four 1000cc bike will give you an effect of traction control at lower speeds. On the other end the huge 1.3 liter KTM offers such an insane amount of torque at low revs - so that this "smoothing" effect of short shifting is simply not there on the KTM. Did I get it right ?

M maybe a little right. I short shift my SD GT pulling away from a light and feed it gears rapidly with quick shifter and I leave the world behind but nobody thinks I'm trying to "race".
