I got a request to go alittle more into detail about how I made this. the design is not mine, but something I pieced together from several others.

you can also make a tire spreader that will drop in where the Duckbill is located to patch defective tires, mine works great.

I built my own changer because I wanted something more substantial than the HF unit. I made my own change head because I wasn't even aware these duck heads were readily available. I'll be modding mine to take a duck head.

Check out a youtube video ; some guy tests three duckheads ; the red one, a black one, and a stainless steel one ; THIS one, really looks ' ducky '. His tests, show the black one requires less force ; red is next, and the stainless one rates last....good luck ~ sir !

thanks, and get asked that alot. I have kicked it around but I already have enough projects that get neglected. I do encourage people to get in there shops or garages and just start making stuff, tools or whatever. they will be crude at first but the more you do it the better you will be and your projects will be

I don't have a welder so I used JB weld to bond mine together. It broke the first time I used it putting a 4-inch gash in my leg and losing my left nut. Next time I will know to use more JB weld.

What did you use to prevent slop from the harbor fright screw down to the pipe of the modification. There is about a 1/16 inch difference between 2 1/16 pipe and the 2 inch tire bore. I want to get that slop out of the duckbill mod/, Any suggestion?

4:08 ''....it is a ' bit yanky ' .....? Another new term, for us. Here, we use the word '' wonky ''......Hi. Making one of these tire changers, same duckhead. I'll use flat steel, with a large nut (you may have to sand off, about 1mm off of each hex corner, to fit snugly) welded to it, for fitting in the 1+ inch hole, in the duckhead, between the two mounting holes. Then, place the duckhead on the flat steel, with the large nut in that hole ; trace around duckhead, and 2 bolt holes, and cut out the size needed. This way, when mounted to the vertical support, the duckhead can withstand alot more force, if required. I won't depend, on just the two end bolts, supporting a lateral force. Using that hole, to distribute the force, as the duckhead was designed for this ; lateral force supported internally vertically. ..anyway....good luck, ALL !

How do you hold the entire assembly on the tire changer when you're using it?
@kylechristopherson4361 Жыл бұрын
the shoe rides on the lip of the rim and the pressure from the tire bead keeps it there

@kylechristopherson43614 жыл бұрын
lucid autowerks makes a really nice one, however I think they get around 300 for it. at that point you could go to harbor freight and buy a welder and grinder to make your own and still be money ahead plus you will then have the tools to make other things

What do you mean with offset?
@davidwhynot64324 жыл бұрын
@@chrislambe400 you mounted to one the side of your center post . you can get this to work using a round post on the duck bill .when doing larger heavy ply tires i found the duck head would twist
@davidwhynot64324 жыл бұрын
putting the duck head post inline with the center post and using a square shaft solved this 18'' tires are now a breeze
@davidwhynot64324 жыл бұрын
also applying the turning force as close to the duck head as possible reduces flex on bigger tires

Truthfully the bolts welded to bolts are the only thing that gives you away, otherwise it looks store bought.

@kylechristopherson43613 жыл бұрын
I honestly don't know. Like I said in the video I made it out of what I had laying around. If I would have bought the stock to build it, it would probably be alot less janky. If you are interested in buying one I know lucid autowerks makes a nice one, but I have no intentions of making them for sale. sorry
