I feel like the reason Webby couldn't hear Lena is because Webby hasn't been in the shadow realm. Lena has been so she could hear Magica.

I like Lena. I find it interesting she despises magic even tho her whole life revolves around it. And I understand why that is too. And I think it just makes for a very unique character

As someone who didn’t *love* Lena in season one, I was surprised how remarkably invested this episode got me in bringing her back.

I really like how they have parallels between Violet and Huey, Dewey and Webby, and Lena and Louie.

You've been focusing a little too much lately on making your reviews spoiler free and only talking about the formula structure and serial plot set ups in your reviews. I want to hear you gush a little about how emotional it was seeing Webby and Lena accapt they are about to be seperated again at this adventures end just before a miracle happens, or how it was a nice little touch having the jealousy shadows show up as Webby hides the friendship bracelet when the new girl asks about it. She has absolutely nothing now except her fondness of her nerdy friend and that friendship bracelet that's the only mark she left on the world to be remembered by. Add a spoiler section to your reviews so you can gush about this episodes more. I dont watch your reviews anyway until I see the episode for myself.

Lena is a simulacrum made through magic and now made whole. The word normally means an image of someone, but in the past for magic, a simulacrum is more of a spectral clone, or in this case a shadow clone. It's not meant to be permanent, but through Webby and Violet's actions, it, or rather she, has been given a life of her own. This probably would not have been possible if it weren't for Magicka to begin with though. Her magic was so powerful she was able to make a simulacrum with a sense of self to begin with, instead of just a puppet to control, which I'd actually guess was a mistake on her part, because if she could've taken over Lena from the start, she really seems like she would've done so. Wow, I'm now realizing how similar Lena's situation is to an unplanned childbirth...jeez...

I had forgotten how important trios are in this show, before you said it out loud here. Well, I am happy to finally have a more interesting version of Emy, Evy and Ely

Webby: It's time to D-D-D-D-DUEL!

I love how Launchpad says 'Hey Lena' like its just perfectly normal that she's there.

I don't think you got Lena's true motivation for her action in this episode. You take everything as face value, but really Lena suspicious of Violet is less about facts and more about two things. 1)Lena's own guilt of her past. 2) And this the main one, it is just insecurity and jealousy, afraid of being replaced and eventually forgotten.

Beakley/Launchpad is a friendship that we never knew we needed.

The best thing I love about this episode is, well, these three girls, who are the main focus. But the reason I love them the most is because they are similar to Huey, Dewey and Louie, but still their own characters. Violet is the intellectual being booksmart, obsessed with the supernatural and always carries a book of great value to her like Huey, but she is cool headed, isn't prone to panic attacks when things go awry or a perfectionist. Lena is shifty, devious, quick on her feet and is an expert liar like Louie, but she has a backbone, can be more generous and empathetic and she doesn't always put herself first when there is no trouble around (at least not anymore). And Webby... well there's no explanation needed for her. It's Webby! They're a perfect parallel to the boys, but are actually a bit more competent. I actually want to see them compete against the boys in a scavenger hunt turned treasure hunt. How they work off one another and interact with their counterparts will be a treat to see someday.

Webby having a trio just like Huey, Dewey, and Louie, that is heartwarming and it makes you want to know what Webby and her friends will do in the future with the boys.

I'm pretty sure Lena is basically like a robot that evolved from being a mindless drone (or something else I can't think of) to a being with a independent mind. It’s so good to have Lena back! Been waiting all season for this! It seems like a great mid-season finale. I saw a promo for September and all six kids are in it! They do get to go on adventures together!

I am willing to say that Lena is/was part of Magica's soul, manifested though shadow magic, i know that some cultures believed that a persons's shadow's was part of there soul.

I remember watching the season one final and after five episodes I was like “so where’s Lena because you guys can have so many stories with that and maybe weby can get powers” and then I saw this episode “YES FINALLY wait Lena is back!”

I knew Webby had made a new friend, but I missed the fact that it meant there were two sets of triplets (in a Chipmunks & Chipettes kind of way, but with ducks) on the show now. Launchpad casually mentioning Lena being back as if he was just saying hi to someone who had been around and hadn't gone anywhere was for me the cherry on top of the episode. Not important, but firmly cemented her character into the group.

What's funny is, as you mention how we now have a new trio for Webby, it reminds me that Lena was introduced in the episode where Webby feels left out with Huey, Dewey and Louie, and now Webby has her own trio.

I heard a rumor that Daisy Duck will appear along with April, May, and June, who would be all be voiced by Mabel Pines herself, Kristen Schaal. But how would that work when we already have a girl trio now.

Launchpad's big "what" towards Mrs. Beakley when she says she doesn't know who Darkwing Duck is is the exact same thing I say, when someone tells me they've never seen The Princess Bride or Once Upon A Time

I will say that when we got the Darkwing Duck episode, I was surprised that this one didn't lead into that one. It's like, they just happened to go see Jim Starling shortly after this had happened. There wasn't any of Beakley & Launchpad trying to get his fanfic made into a movie, there just happened to be a movie already in production. This episode & the Duck Knight Returns didn't have any connection besides Darkwing Duck playing some kind of a role in both episodes. It's just weird to me, I want to know what was in that fanfic that LP wrote, did he write something along the lines of Darkly Dawns the Duck or something completely different? He did insert himself into it so it's probably more like one of our Darkwing Duck stories since LP is his sidekick in our world, obviously not their's but I do find it entertaining that the Haunting of Mr. Banana Brain is an episode that exists in their world. I know this was on Friendship Hates Magic & I was super happy to see Lina return as well as the ending of the episode but of course my mind focused on the Darkwing Duck elements of this episode & I tried using it to predict what would happen in the Duck Knight Returns so the fact that nothing in this carried into that confused me. I am curious on what this means for the future of the series regarding Launchpad & the whole Darkwing Duck side of things, this is getting into spoiler territory now because I will say what happens by the end of the Duck Knight Returns, turn away now if you have not seen the episode, you have been warned! As Seaniccus hinted earlier, it does seem that LP will end up leaving & becoming Darkwing Duck's sidekick, if you're confused by this, it means that you have not seen the Duck Knight Returns so go watch it! Spoilers, I must say this again because it's important you see the episode first. Sorry, I just seriously don't want to spoil this because the ending of this episode is so great. Continuing, there is a new Darkwing Duck, Negaduck has a completely new origin & I have to say, I LOVE this origin, it's probably the best Negaduck origin we've ever had. Darkwing Duck is going to be in the real world, it all has fallen into line & I can't stress enough how much I love this universe's Drake Mallard. He's not really so egotistical like the original BUT he has a deep love of Darkwing Duck, with him becoming the new Darkwing Duck, that right there is perfect. Him & Launchpad both are major fans of Darkwing Duck, it's something the two can bond over, seeing them work together brought tears to my eyes. Everything is falling into place for it to be in their real world & I love it. With that said, there's still the stuff from Friendship Hates Magic that will be itching at me for a bit of time, what was in that fanfic that Launchpad wrote? Maybe it's something as silly as the comic book the Darkwing Duck cast wrote together in Comic Book Capers? At the very least, I hope LP wrote in Little Running Gag, that would be amazing. Where does Beakley go with her newfound Darkwing Duck obsession? Given DW was a member of SHUSH in the original series & Beakley is a SHUSH agent (actually predicted that in the first episode, ran my theory by Aaron Sparrow when all we had was the first episode & he didn't say anything but his reaction told me all I needed to know), if Drake ends up working with SHUSH at all in this world, this could be something? I feel like with DW being apart of the real world & Beakley being a Darkwing Duck fan now, something will be made of that, not sure what exactly but something will happen. Sorry, I've been thinking about this constantly, once Friendship Hates Magic aired, I had been trying to figure out what would happen in the Duck Knight Returns & then once that aired, I was set on an entirely new path. I went through an extreme Darkwing Duck obsession in 2010 & 2011of which I was still in high school during that time, it sparked up due to me trying to find the What I Like About Toons bumper from Toon Disney, got hooked on seeing top 10 lists of cartoon theme songs from the 90's, & being disappointed that Darkwing Duck rarely popped up on these lists & in a top 20 list where of course Ducktales got number 1 again, they were saying that Darkwing Duck is swinging his tail feathers to that song & that was the last straw for me, even though I was way more into Ducktales as a child, I still felt like Darkwing Duck had the superior theme song so I listened to it about 50 times, then ended up watching the entire series & purchasing the DVDs & obsessing over it. I actually ran the Cartoon Club at my school & I made a poster advertising it, drew the Liquidator & wrote it in his manner of speech. Not only that but I was taking Drawing 2 & for one of the pieces I drew, after the comic books were released of course, was Darkwing Bowling Ball striking the Fearsome Four (no Negaduck so I'm saying 4 instead of 5) as bowling pins with his gas gun. I actually gave that drawing to James Silvani years later. I went through an intense Darkwing Duck phase as you can see but around 2012, it died down because I was focusing on other things, I was out of high school & was trying to get my life together so I still loved the show dearly but had other things I needed to do. When the reboot of Ducktales was announced, I of course was worried since I obsessed over Ducktales when I was really little, my mom tells me that when I was a toddler, I'd dance to the Ducktales theme song whenever the show came on. Mixed in with the worry was hope on what we would get for Darkwing Duck from that because that show still meant a lot to me, it's what gave me a life in the first place. Going to the comic book store every month to pick up the latest issue is how I found out about Emerald City Comicon, Darkwing Duck also lead into me becoming an event organizer because of this & a few other things, it's a bit complicated to explain but this is the show that caused me to have a life after graduation so I feel like I owe it big. I had been intensely curious on what the reboot meant for that show so of course I followed the Ducktales reboot once the news was circulating about it & saw it when it first aired. I spent that entire day binging my Ducktales DVDs leading into it so everything was fresh in my mind making the easter eggs hidden in the first episode easier for me to spot. It's just the B plot of this episode but seeing that caused me to be super happy. I know in this one, it's just small & the big stuff is to come but this shows how two shows I absolutely adore are becoming one, this is the last time we see it as just a show in a show, this is before it becomes apart of their real world, it also sets up something we probably will see in the future. I wonder if Beakley & Drake will ever work together but Drake as Darkwing Duck, I feel I need to specify since Jim is Negaduck. The spoiler warning was ages ago, if you skimmed, this is why you don't skim! It does feel weird having to point out the Darkwing I mean since Drake Mallard should be the one & only Darkwing but the way they executed it is so great & also shows us that in the TV show they had, Darkwing Duck had no life outside of being Darkwing Duck since Drake Mallard is a real person, not his secret identity in the show they had. If we had their Darkwing Duck, odds are, I probably wouldn't have watched it since it's missing a lot of the heart having no Gosalyn, no Launchpad, no life outside of being a hero. It makes perfect sense that Jim became Negaduck, seeing him slowly turn into him throughout the Duck Knight Returns was absolutely fantastic, the moment we saw him wielding the chainsaw, that's what sealed it, not after the blast with his colors changed. I know he was a hero in the end, saving Launchpad but he had already become Negaduck, it was hinted at when he had the look in his eyes & if that wasn't enough, they had to have him pick up the chainsaw. Sorry, I'm way too excited about Seaniccus covering that episode soon. I actually hope that he takes his time on that one, I like the faster way he did the others but there's so much to examine in that episode & needs to be watched multiple times over, the Duck Knight Returns is better the second viewing because you can look at it completely different knowing how the whole thing wraps up. You can see Drake & Launchpad's partnership form & it's beautiful, I teared up a bit my second time watching it. Kind of wanted to be detailed on the episode so he knows what to look back on when he watches it again, that one should definitely take time working on & I know I'd be willing to wait but I understand if it needs to get out faster.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic DuckTales 2017: Friendship Hates Magic

I LOOOOVE the Scarlet Pimpernel and explaining to people that 1) it was written by Baroness Emma Orczy, 2) it was the first Western story written about a masked vigilante rescuing people in the name of justice that does not always correspond with the law, 3) The Scarlet Pimpernel was one of the inspirations for Zorro, who later became the inspiration for Batman and every other masked vigilante AKA every Superhero ever. So yes, you can thank a badass woman for creating superheros :) Seeing DuckTales take that same semi-obscure history and run with it made me SO happy I can't even really express it. DuckTales isn't just a hilarious cartoon version of our world, but a mirror to it. I'm weirdly excited to think that there was a French Duck Revolution (which is the timeframe Scarlet Pimpernel was originally set in), a Duck Reformation, Duck War of the Roses, and we already know there were Duck Conquistadors. The life the creators of this show have been have to breathe into this extended world has been the most amazing, reassuring experience.

Though not talked about in this review, the Darkwing Duck episode shown was the one with the late Phil Hartman. Whilst his roles in The Simpsons couldn’t be succeeded, Darkwing Duck’s voice actor Jim Cummings was able to take over his Darkwing Duck character.

You forgot to mention the reason WHY Violet was interested in the magic in the first place as it does play into an interesting twist on how the rational mind tends to comprehend magic in its chaotic form.

Everybody elses big feels this season was Della returning but for me personally it was this reunion. Lena is my favorite and I'm so glad she is back

It was awesome to see Lena again, and how much she and Webby care for each other. The part of me that loves old school Yugioh got a big kick out of the Shadow Realm in this episode.

This episode made me so happy. It would've been so easy to just let Webby hang out with the boys and have her be content with only having male friends, but instead they actually did the work and gave Webby her own friend group, making her independent from the triplets. Also, the fact that their friendship is basically grounded in magic and witchcraft is so fitting, considering that so many girls (myself included) go through witch phases around these ages.

This is the kind of episode that really shows why I think that the 2017 version is superior to the classic version. In that one an episode without the boys and Scrooge would never have worked because Webby, Mrs. Beakley and Launchpad were just not developed enough to carry an entire episode like this on their own both in the a and b story with not input from the actual main characters. But the new version has them flashed out to the point that we don't need to see the Ducks (family name) for 25 minutes and it still works just fine.

Alternate Episode Title: "22 Minutes of Sapphic Undertones". Seriously, look at the interactions between Webby and Lena and the dialogue. I'm not into shipping, but even I can't help but notice it.

I know how Mrs. B feels. I hate it when anything ends on a cliffhanger. It feels like it's up to me, to come up with happy endings.

So basically this is shadow of mordor/war with webby being talion and lena is celebrimbor.

And Scooge said he waned to have Lena would have a place in his Family and Webby too.

The name of the episode is kind of ironic, since Friendship Magic appears to be quite potent in this series... I also couldn't help but notice that Mrs. Beakley said Scrooge and the boys were at the Money Bin, but she didn't address where Della was... eh, I guess she's also with the guys I guess. Way to go for Launchpad, though, for converting Beakley into a Darkwing Duck fan, and using an episode that appeared to be based on one from the original series, right down to featuring the same characters from that episode (Paddywhack and Mr. BananaBrain specifically). Lastly, Violet will be an interesting new addition, but I also like how she, Webby, and Lena form an almsot alternate version of the triplets: Violet is Huey (book smart, relatively level-headed), Webby is Dewey (incredibly adventurous and outgoing), and Lena is Louie (morally questionable yet incredibly laid-back). It's also funny how Violet's full name, Violet Sabrewing, is literally the name of the species she is (a violet sabrewing hummingbird). As for Lena, I can't help but feel throughout the episode that she kept projecting herself onto Violet, assuming she's a toxic friend trying to get something out of Webby because that's what she was, not to mention even though she kept trying to put up this front of wanting to protect Webby from a potential danger, I could tell right from the get-go that she was just jealous of Webby finding a new friend and potentially forgetting about her. It all seemed to work out in the end, though. Edit: Can we really even call Lena Magica's niece? We found out that she was Magica's shadow, and Magica even outright says she's not family before getting rid of her.

Friendship is Magic! No, Friendship hates Magic! Oh, I just love that little jab at MLP. It's all in good fun for the writers isn't it.

I teared up a bit from this episode. So happy that Lena is back, even more so than Della.

Disney spoof the Looney Tunes, the Scarlet Pimperbil is somewhat of a reference to Daffy Duck's Scarlet Pumpernickel.

I like how they subtly referenced the fact they based Darkwing's design off of Daffy Duck in "The Scarlet Pumpernickel" with Beakly's novel. And let's not forget the red herring of them using the third eye Webby in the promo for the "New Ducktales episodes in May." Like we were all expecting some mystical thing to pay off, but it was just a one off scene at the end of the episode that signified nothing.

When you think about it... there's a lot of trios of characters being setup...

Hmm, I thought Lena was like Raven from DC, but she reminds me of what a female version of Ermac from Mortal Kombat would be. Similar powers and constructs.

The second you mentioned that Webby now has her own trio, it made me realize how the girls have a similar dynamic to the boys. Webby has Dewy's sense of adventure, Lena has Louie's devil may care attitude and Violet has Huey's inquisitive mind. Something like this makes me interested to see where the show go next with "the girls" as well as making me excited to see both factions work off each other.

5:52 Although I do like the idea of Webby getting a new friend, I was kinda hopping it would be Gosalyn. Especially after what happens in the The Duck Knight Returns episode, but that is just me. Infact I've had this heacanon that gosalyn was friends with the boys.

I want to see Lena have a bonding adventure with Scrooge. He promised that if she helped her, she would have a place in his family. I think the only way he can really pay off on that promise is adoption.
