Craig you set the bar when it comes to educating your audience. The Audio/Video quality, your explanations and expertise is what sets you apart from other videos. Thank you... The education in these videos is priceless. 1. From the Technician side: Sets the Gold standard on "How to". Many technicians rather short cut these processes. 2. This shows the client how complex the process is and time consuming when properly done. 3. Educates the client on the expertise required, what to expect from the service tech and how to properly protect their investment.

Glad that manufacturers are beginning to take the cleaning process into consideration by making it easier to access the indoor coil. But there are still way too many error-prone steps IMHO.

I NEVER use corrosive cleaners. Sometimes you need not have to remove the blower wheel if you use a good pressure sprayer with the right hose end sprayer. Just rotate and spray. I built a sprayer from a 80 psi low gpm 12v water pump and a 12v 7ah dry battery with a 2.5 gallon sprayer jug. Got the stainless steel adjustable sprayer head from a pest control site. About $160.00 for it all and it has done well for about 9 years now and is very portable. Dawn detergent and windex works wonders on coils. Been using it for many decades. Oily coils get cleaned well with 409.

Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) kzfaq.infoUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.

A HUGE disadvantage of mini split. Here in South Cali this job would cost around $800. And people who installed mini splits usually can’t afford to install central HVAC. But it’s a great option for a flat. In Europe those types of mini splits is very popular and been used for decades already.

The C&H Astoria series and the Carrier Performance series ductless wall heads are significantly easier to disassemble and clean. Most other ductless wall heads are like this one, quite difficult and delicate to disassemble and clean. I put my blower wheel into the dishwasher once I have it removed. I hope more people buy ducted cassette style indoor units and install them with a filter grille that accepts widely available disposable MERV 8-13 filters. Those filters good enough to keep the cassette clean for a long time unlike the mesh filters on ductless wall heads that are lackluster filters. Ducted cassette cost a bit more upfront and take more planning to install but you get better conditioned air distribution and much lower maintenance costs.

In the video clip section about the super dirty coil. If you wait that long to clean a ductless indoor unit you will likely develop indoor air quality issues and health issues. Don't wait until it gets that bad to schedule a deep cleaning. And that video clip show the indoor coil completely removed and disconnected from the refrigerant lines. A service tech performing a cleaning on a working unit will never recover the refrigerant, disconnect the indoor unit from the lineset just to clean the coil outside. Because that would mean upon reassembly they'll need to reflare line set connections, perform a temperature compensated pressure decay test, and vacuum decay test, and recharge the system. Surely that is too expensive and too much work for just a cleaning.

I must admit it is refreshing to see someone else struggle a bit to decipher and break in to a mini-split indoor unit to clean it!🤣 "Each unit is different," he says! Good stuff, Craig. I'm going to comment a bit on my experience with the Coil Jet 125. Overall it is a great tool but (at least on mine) the bottom plastic cover is a bit too thin, fragile. Plus, four convex dimples integrated into the bottom plastic cover take all the weight. Mind you I wasn't rough with it, dropped it, etc... it was actually sitting on a shelf when I removed it to load on to the truck. Suddenly, I noticed some broken plastic pieces were left behind. This is a bit underwhelming to see in less than 4-months ownership. Lastly, CJ should offer an option/version that allows techs to use existing battery platforms vs. your daddy's old 12VDC deep cell LA battery. Sure, the included battery works well, but it is 2023 and professionals have (or should have) plenty of Li-ion batteries ready to go. Luckily, I'm not waiting.😉

The supco porta blaster is another option for about a third of the price. Not cordless but if you have Milwaukee M18 batteries the top off works to power it and you can draw water from whatever container you like. I use 3 buckets, one for clean water, one for dirty water and one for holding the wet stuff when I’m fetching more clean water or dumping dirty water.

Why would a pro HVAC guy like the KZfaq influencer, Steve Lavimoniere, say that it's best to clean the outdoor compressor coils with just plain water at low pressure from a garden hose? He says those specialty coil cleaning solutions shorten the life of mini-splits and put an unneeded film on the coil surfaces reducing heat transfer. I really trust this guy. He's a straight shooter and not interested in padding customers bills.

Don't want to be "blamed" for breaking a system. LOL Selling the house, had a company come out to check the package unit. He tested the capacitor and pressures. All good. He's packing up to leave notice the fan is going the wrong way. I suggested he check the wiring to the capacitor sure enough he hooked up the wires wrong. made sure he checked the capacitor again, sure enough it was now out of spec. Thankfully he had a the right cap on the van. Moral of the story, a professional is someone who gets paid for the work. Doesn't meant hey are experts or with out flaws. Either do it yourself or double check a professionals work.
