So brilliant and so, so talented and also obviously such a lovely gentleman. Such a super demonstration of the ABC organ, with the immaculate start to Widor Toccata through a demonstration of a Dutch Street organ!!! Such was Dudley’s genius and hence his success, he was properly trained and could play the classical repertoire as well as he the pop stuff of the day!! Part of his genius too was being able to make the little ABC organ (13 ranks + melotone?) sound like the had 50 ranks, again resourceful genius - I never knew him of couse but wish I had met him, I can only hope he’s somewhere up there playing some marvelous organ in heaven - gone but so treasured, so so absolutely fantastic you have so much of his material immortalized forever, ow with my own digital library of these works!! So appealing about Dudley was his obvious modesty and humility, combined with so much enthusiasm for all that he did, it was all so obviously a life long passion he never lost track of or the impetus to follow and pursue…. I know the ABC Compton was kept in tip top condition as a BBC broadcasting instrument, and was especially well voiced and regulated by Compton, it it was still Dudley who made it what it became and still is… Is the organ still buried in the bingo hall the ABC became, or did Rick Wakeman and friends rescue it and move it to London?? If you have any news on this, I’d love to know. If the organ is still buried, I will personally offer to buy it and restore it to as Dudley would have know it. It would be installed forever in a concert hall here in Bermuda, in the City of Hamilton!! A dream perhaps!! Anyway, all the best and tremendous thanks for all you do to help save and preserve the very best of the British Theatre Organ, or concert organ as Dudley describes them himself!!! All the best and have a lovely Sunday and a great week!!! Adrian in Bermuda ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Bermuda Pipe Organ Company Limited, LLC Bermuda (1986) Saint George’s GE05 Bermuda

Thanks as always Adrian what a super great reply. So thanks, the organ was saved and moved to storage I believe when the Blackheath location did work out so the organ is safe. Hopefully, one day we will hear it again sadly not in Dudley's fine hands he was such a super chap to talk to as well just like he comes over in his radio broadcast and this video thanks. So again for such an informative comment which was a joy to read thank you. All the best Kev.

Wonderful to see and hear. I never met Dudley which I regret much as I am from Gulval and am also an organist, having learned on the village churchorgan as he did.

Yes indeed, a lovely devoted lady whom Dudley was obsessed with since he first met her!!! A match made in heaven so sure, she also I understand had the patience of 5 saints, as, as gentle as Dudley was, he was apparently somewhat forgetful of things like meal times!!!!!! Best to you and have a lovely week!! Kindest and best, Adrian in Bermuda ❤️❤️ Bermuda Pipe Organ Company Limited, LLC Bermuda Saint George’s GE05 Bermuda

Excellent film clip of Dudley and the ABC organ, thanks for uploading! This must be about the time the organ went out of use, does anyone know for sure when? Shame the Blackheath Halls re-installation project fell through as I live nearby. Hope the organ eventually finds a new home 🤞🤞🤞

Hi Kev, and a very happy new year to you. Many, many thanks indeed for uploading this wonderful video; I've always been a great fan of Dudley Savage. 'As Prescribed' was a 'Sunday 'Must' in my boyhood days, but we've had this discussion preciously. Watching him play the opening of the Widor shows his heritage as a very fine 'classical' organist. Without a doubt, Dudley was a most talented, versatile musician and entertainer. I especially enjoyed his Charles Laughton anecdote!! Oh for those days!! All the very best as ever. Here's to a happy, healthy and successful 2024 to 'you and yours'. Peter A :) :) :)

I can remember as a lad going into the ABC Plymouth and hearing Dudley Savage on the organ and being fascinated by the huge tonal colours of the theatre organ! I have heard it said that this particular Compton is one of the finest theatre organs ever made? The building, of course, is this organs' finest stop as with all fine installations! But it was with Dudley at the console, a truly fantastic sound! In fact, I was looking through some old boxes in store the other day and found an LP called the Plymouth sound ! I wonder what became of this very vocal Compton? It would be lovely to hear it again in a suitable location!

Dudley has always been my musical hero from a boy, sending me copies of music. Fifty three years later still thrill to the sound of his playing...but especially at Plymouth..let's not forget the finest Compton organ of it's size. Excellent Kevin ..well done!
