I've yet to get skunked there but yes you need good technique. especially for the big ones.

the upper hooch runs right through Helen. There is also smiths creek at Unicoi Park. just check in at the station. where the hotel is pay the 5 dollar park fee. both are stocked and have no tackle restrictions. make sure to purchase your temporary fishing and trout license.

I almost always do a san Juan dropped with. nymph. classic pheasant tail or bwo nymph. caddis larva will hit too.

Public but regulated. Well managed. Only reason I name this stream. You call the office to make free reservation. They only allow fishing on Wednesday Saturday and Sunday from October through May. Barbless, single hook only. CnR only. they also only allow 15 anglers per day. Unless they are having a hunt. then they close all but section one and allow even less anglers. Cant remember how many on those days. about can also rent a cabin and have stream access. regardless of day and dont need a reservation. But the cabins aren't cheap. Other than that. Just pay a 5 dollar state park fee. Or if you have the 50 dollar yearly pass you're good.

@@trouttrailfishin I get it and don’t blame you. Cleetus and the boys come right on top of you with the push button zebcos. I have noticed i need to do some exploring though the forest to find some areas to fish. I fished mulkey gap I believe it was called. Walked pretty far upstream and had a little luck.
