So fun fact: After the movie was finished, Jeff Daniels was at a golf tournament, and ran into Clint Eastwood. Clint said "Hey I saw that movie 'Dumb & Dumber'", and Jeff said "Oh I'm sorry". Clint said "No it that toilet scene was funny. That happened to me when I was picking up a date".

This is one of the rare times where I think the edited version of this movie is funnier. I think the edited scenes have better timing, and the jokes don't run on too long, such as the waitress at the diner and the bathroom scene with Sea Bass. Sometimes less is more. Also, that "California" house in the dream sequence is actually a restaurant in Utah.

Jeff Daniels only made $50K from doing this movie, while Jim Carrey got $12M. Jim Carrey was originally asking $2M but the studio turned him down. While negotiations were still taking place, Ace Ventura came out, and Carrey's take-home was raised by $10M. At the same time, they wanted another A-list star to play opposite of him, apparently they were going for Nic Cage. They didn't want Jeff Daniels, who at the time was a respected thespian who wanted to break from casting and do something new. The studio was so disinterested in him that they low-balled him at $50K. His agent didn't counter-propose or argue the case because he thought it would be career suicide. Daniels took the deal anyway, and Carrey cheered him on the whole way, pushing for him behind the scenes. The studio went as far as to shoot Daniels' first several scenes without Carrey so they could edit him out when they got his replacement -- Daniels was auditioning for a job he purportedly already had. But when they looked at the film and saw the chemistry they had together (plus Nic asked for another $2M), they finally stuck with Jeff and the rest is history.

The "Flo" reference is to a TV show in the 70's/80's called Alice and one of the waitress' name was Flo and she always told people to "kiss my grits"

You would never get the reference when they call the waitress "Flo" and laugh their heads off, but there was a sitcom about 100 years ago called "Alice" about a group of waitresses that worked at Mel's Diner and the sassy waitress was named "Flo".

Definitely in my top 5 such a funny movie, also Mr movies Mutcuts van came back in Dumb and Dumber too back in 2014. I don't know whether it's still around in 2024, but you never know favorite scenes definitely the laxative toilet scene and I love the pee scene with Lloyd. 😂

Lin Shay was in all these movies because they were released by New Line. Her brother Bob owned the studio, so she shows up in cameos in a ton of New Line films

7:16 - that's Lin Shaye. She did a lot of movies with New Line Cinema. Not just Farrelly movies she was also in horror movies like A Nightmare On Elm Street. Her brother ran New Line Cinema at the time of all this. Now she's recognized more for Insidious

The TV edit is infamous in my family... one of our favorite things to scream at each other is "RIGHT ON MY SANDWICH, AFTER YOU KISS IT!" 🤣🤣 I'll never understand that form of censorship. bahahah The chipped tooth is next level commitment. xD Jim Carrey actually had his dentist remove the dental bonding material on his left front tooth to reveal the chip he sustained in grade school!

Oh you guys are watching the extended version. I think the theatrical cut is better. Better pacing with the jokes. The added jokes fall flat with me.

There was a tv show (1976-1985) called Alice who was a waitress. Her fellow waitress was a southern redhead named Flo who used her catchphrase line, "Kiss my grits" that became a fan favorite.

The theatrical version is better than the unrated, as the latter loses some of Harry & Lloyd's innocent charm, but the TV edit just doesn't cut it. Either way, this movie freaking kills me every time!
@DeRockMedia

eh TV edit is better than whatever was on usually... but i agree, i prefer the theatrical vs unrated... my best friend from middle school (97) and i quoted this movie to this day and watched it all the time, we had to watch the unrated together, and although it was fun to have extra scenes, it messes with the flow and pace (maybe cuz ive seen the original like 100 times by then so its locked in as the real version to me)
