That sounds like a great idea. I made my first dump cake last week; raspberry pie filling with Devils food cake. I did mix the melted butter with the cake, but it was a very lumpy and dry dough. So, it did turn out to have a chunky, powdery texture to the cake. We ended up just mixing it all together. Still, it was a bit of a disappointment. I’ll try your way, mixing the butter and cake mix, and putting the pie filling on top. Thanks!

I use a stick of frozen butter and grate it over the top, it’s so fine it’ll cover the whole thing and melt evenly and look beautifully browned all over.

Made one a year ago, couldn't t handle the dry spots, also don't want to use 10 sticks of butter LOL. I don't understand why no one is using Parkay Spray Butter. I think it should work, but I'm not sure.

@@marvinabigby6376 I would use either one. Just be sure to rinse off the frozen ones to remove a bit of the juices on them so it keeps the batter from getting quite to purple. The fresh ones wouldn't do that.

@@margaretbedwell58 I've never made one b4. They're a lot of dump cakes any kind you would want. So I want to bake one & see. I would put the cake mix in a bowl mix in my butter cinnamon and sugar altogether

Neece add a package of instant oatmeal over top before topping it with butter- apple- and maple brown sugar with apple or apple cinnamon over apple. Just a little extra oomph

The trick I use it to cover the whole cake with butter no cake mix showing 😋 mine always turn out covered and crisp and golden brown ❤

Me too hunny! I drop four big cans of peaches in a pot with brown sugar, white sugar, molasses, cinnamon , nutmeg ,after that's all mixed and cooked the way I wanted I'll add some cornstarch to thicken my sauce 😊

Do dump cakes taste good? I've seen so many recipes for them but have never tried one. Most of the recipes i've seen melt the butter beforehand.

@@karenwichmann7986 Dump cakes taste seriously amazing. It's kinda like a cobbler, but a richer top. But there's no reason to mix things together... I mean, the reason it's called a DUMP cake is you just DUMP everything on top. Also, I recommend 2 cans of pie filling instead of one... more fruit that way.

Tamara Morton I gave her way a try (after doing the melting thing for years) and I don’t think it worked as well. Too many spots of cake mix that never ended up with butter on them. I’m definitely going back to doing the melting thing next time.
