When I cook steel cut oats overnight in the crockpot I put them in a Corningware baking dish with all of the ingredients. I sit the dish in the crockpot and add water to the crockpot until it's about halfway up the side of the bakeware. I put the lid on without covering the baking dish and cook overnight on low. It comes out perfectly and doesn't burn.

All really good, love your families reaction to all of the meals, you feed them well and you can see how much they appreciate it! :) The rice dish that you made reminded me of a dish I do called Baked Rice Pilaf. It's very similar to what you did except you cook it on the stove just for a few minutes first so that you can also caramelise an onion diced along with a bit of garlic, then add the rice and the stock, allow it to cook for a few minutes and then transfer it to a baking dish, covered, and cook it in the oven for about 25-30 mins. I know the point of this is that you are using your crockpot but you could add some onion and garlic to your version and see what you think of it, just really adds something and takes it up another level. Also, you add the butter to this afterwards and just kind of fork it through once all the liquid has absorbed, really nice though so would love it if you'd try it sometime. Think the way your family are with garlic you'd like it! :)

Next time I will use more beef, I used a 2 lb chuck roast and about 1 lb of "sandwich steaks" that my local grocery store has in their 5 for 20 section that I needed to use up. Cooked on low for 10(ish) hours, served with homemade mashed potatoes. I can't wait to try the rest of these recipes! Thank you SOOO much!

Crockpot oatmeal tip! Put a smaller (oven safe) baking dish in your crockpot - one that's more suitable to the amount of oatmeal you are making and then add a cup of water to the crock. One of the big issues is that the amount of oatmeal made tends to be dwarfed by the crock (unless you have a really big family or a mini crockpot.) Since the crockpot is calibrated to heat a full one it helps to offset the heat. This is a Stephanie Odea tip back from... 2008? I think? The blog is how I started making crockpot oatmeal.

For the oatmeal- I have done steel cut overnight in the crock pot for years! I do 3/1 liquid to oats ratio (or 4/1 if you like it a little thinner) and keep it on warm for at least 10 hours. I add frozen fruit, applesauce, almond butter, spices. I usually add any other sweetener in the morning to test how much it needs. Unless I do it on low or don't add enough liquid, I've never had an issue!

This is how I do the Butter Beef from Tiffany: 1 pkt Italian dressing mix, 1 pkt Ranch dressing mix, 1 stick butter, 1 jar sliced banana peppers with liquid, 1 (3 lb) beef chuck tender roast. Place roast in crock. Sprinkle both pkts of seasoning over the roast to coat well. Place stick of butter on top of meat. Pour entire jar of peppers and liquid around roast, careful not to disturb seasoning. I don't add extra water, it doesn't need it. I also don't pour the peppers over the roast because I want the meat to cook with the seasonings on it before I pull it apart. SO super good!

If you switch out the Italian seasoning for an au jus packet on your roast, you've got a Mississippi pot roast (I don't know why it's called that 😆). It's good with pork or chicken too

Hats what I was going to comment, too! I also prefer to cut up my peppers because I found them difficult to cut after they’ve cooked, and I throw in a bag of baby carrots because carrots and ranch go together always.

I’m so shocked at the amount of crockpot KZfaqrs I’m finding that don’t use liners. It makes it SO much easier, you don’t have to clean the pot at all. That’s me being “efficient” lol.

"Whiskey business" 😂😂😂 and "doodly doo".. 😂 😂 😂 Try baking soda with a bit of dish wash liquid paste (equal ratios) for the casserole dish stain. Spot treat, leave for a 5-10mins and wipe off with a soft sponge.. Make sure to pre soak the dish in warm water, so the dish is warm when the paste goes on, it helps loosens the stains🙂

For crockpot steel cut oats, I have to add double the liquid than what they typically call for to keep it from doing that. You can also COOK it with water and drizzle on some half and half or cream when serving instead of using a whole bunch of milk from the beginning. I mix in some vanilla extract with the cream to make it extra yummy! Also, since you already have a Dutch oven, you could start the oatmeal on the stove top and then stick it in a 350 degree oven. Turn the oven off and let it cook with the residual heat overnight. Absolutely no burning! Might be a little thick in the morning, but you can just stir in some extra liquid of choice to loosen it up. I would suggest cooking with water for this one, though.

French dressing? Pepperochinis? Onion soup mix? European fan confused 🤷🏻‍♀️
@73cidalia
@73cidalia 3 жыл бұрын
If there's no such thing as French dressing where you live, there are easy recipes to make a small batch to have on hand. Pepperoncinis are a type of mild pepper, usually bought pickled. They're also known as Tuscan peppers, sweet Italian peppers, or Greek peppers. You could substitute with any mild pickled peppers. Onion soup mix can be substituted with dehydrated onion or onion powder and some powdered bouillon or other all-purpose seasoning mix.

The first recipe is impossible to make in Europe. The only thing that i can buy here is the chicken. There are so many great American recipes that you can make from scratch but many Americans love using cans and jars of things that are hard to find outside of the US. Try finding frozed orange juice concentrate ;-)

Even baking soda + dawn or your favorite liquid dish soap made into a paste and rubbed on with a wash cloth would do the job. But, Christine, for sure clean it BEFORE baking in it or it just gets too big a deal. Might have to bribe a kiddo for that kind of elbow grease!

I do a peppercini beef and or pork butt. I use the sliced peppercinis (large jar) juice and all and the meat. I don't do the different seasonings. When it is ready I take the juice the meat and peppercinis was cooked in and use it to make couscous instead of the water the box calls for. My kids absolutely love it.

We make steel cut oats in our crockpot at least once a week. I put mine on low for about 3 and 1/2 hours then keep warm for 4 but it works if you just do keep warm all night. One of our favourites is mashed up canned peached and pears, cinnamon, oats and water- it's so good!
