We just came back from a double feature of Part 1 and 2. Honestly, there is ENTIRELY too much fiction in Dune part 1 for a recap to be enough before seeing part 2. Just the names of the factions is enough to memorise, then there's the different names given to Paul, the equipment and vehicles, the locations in Arrakis. It's a lot.

great recap. although Chani is not known to be the daughter of Stilgar. in the books, she’s the daughter of Liet-Kynes. In the movie, it’s never mentioned who her father is.

Liet-Kynes is Stilgar's brother (yes Liet-Kynes is a man in the book), so Stilgar is Chani's uncle. I don't think they changed this in the movie, or at least stated it clearly.

Bro, DUNE seems like such a vast star wars-estk type of world with so many names of species, alliances, powers, planets, functions, rebels etc... its hard to keep up... its like they just threw us into a world that has been happening for centuries and we're just from some outside universe witnessing it all.. I totally forgot the storyline of part 1, but i just saw part 2 and it had me hooked! so after the movie I went looking for a recap of the first time, thanks for making this video.

4:31 I don't remember if they changed this detail in the movie to accomodate for the genderswap of the character (which I don't believe), but Chani is Liet-Kynes' daughter, Stilgar is her great uncle. Stilgar's sister was Chani's grandmother according to the novel "Prelude to Dune"

I have been re-watching Dune 1 in preparation for Dune 2. In watching the scene where Paul meets the Reverend Mother there is a brief cut of Paul crossing the distance between himself and the reverend mother (maybe dream like). Then it cuts back to scene and he has not moved from this mother's side. It definitely seems intentional as it was a brief insert. Do you think this was a vision of what was about to occur? Has anyone asked Denis Villeneuve about this?

Im going to watch part to today because of a friend, but never watched part one. So as a great friend (and also who doesn't want to get lost during the film) I watched part one. But I've learned that there is a 1984 and a 2021 version, and guess what? I choose the 1984 one. I dont have time to watch another movie, but have time to watch 2-3 recaps to understand this adaptation.

I read the book in the 80s saw the Lynch film and read about the Jodoworsky attempts. Denis relied on all 3 as well as his childhood Montreal fears of Black people and skin head goths. He cheapened the roles of the Master of Asssassins Hawat and Plandtologist Kynes by casting them as Black and of little consequence or power. Jamis as Black to make racial divisions among Fremen an issue in Dune 2
