Dungeness Crabbing Alsea Bay in Waldport, OR! | Winter Crabbing! | "Dock of the Bay" Boat Rental!

We went boat crabbing in Waldport, OR on the Alsea bay on a cloudy and fairly wet Winter morning and into the afternoon. We rented a boat from the Dock of the Bay and had a fun time targeting Dungeness Crab. We grinded and worked hard for a few hours, and in the end, we only had a handful of keepers to show for it. We pulled up TONS of crab in several pots, but they were either all females or small males. It was awesome to see full pots at the very least and walk away with dinner.
We plan on crabbing here a lot more in the future and during the peak crabbing season.

Go for Red Rock Crabs, taste just as good, and you can catch all of them you get.

For sure! We enjoy catching Red Rock and have good luck in Newport. We're wanting to try Charleston soon. I hear there are some jumbo Reds coming up off the docks.

Newport is the same way lots of females very little males, but the herring are in and the sea lions rip up the herring and the herring is all over the bottom of the bay so the crabs don’t need to travel far to eat. I don’t know if there’s herring where you guys were, but there might’ve been.

Couple snacks 😂 Definitely better luck next time. Surprisingly enough it was our first time out of Waldport on a boat. Would have felt worse if others did better but other boats came in with 1, 3, 4 crab. No one did well that day. That's how it goes.

I take a dollar tree dish sponge and cut it in half. Then squeeze some pro cure super gel "bloody tuna or Anise" and squish it into the sponge. and zip tie it to my bait cage. It holds the gel for weeks lol

I do too! We've done better from the beach or dock than we did on the boat but it was just one of those days! Lots of females.

@@northwestweekenders I wonder if the herring affects the crabs at all there was a ton of them. People were saying they've had too much rain lately too much freshwater in the bay. They said the crabs don't like that
