If your familiar with the DnD board game, the combat almost perfectly follows how several rounds of combat would go. 1:12 Bard succeeds sneak and does a sneak attack, 1:15 red wizards turn to attack bard, I think casts some form of the spell Gust to push him away. 1:16 The warrior attacks and misses, failing the AC (armour class) to hit the red wizard, ally wizard misses his spell, red wizard uses the spell Shield against the Magic Missiles (which cant miss) cast by the ally wizard. 1:20 The warrior and druid help each other grapple red wizard. Bard does a melee attack and hits. 1:22 Ally wizard casts shocking grasp, red wizard casts shield. 1:23 Red Wizards tries to escape the grapple, succeeds strength check against the druid, fails against the warrior, goes for a melee attack against warrior and druid, fails to hit their AC. Ally Wizard follow up with...either fire bolt or Scorching Ray, missing the red wizards AC. Red Wizards finally succeeds strength check against against warrior and escapes their grapple. casts...I think Gust against the bard, pushes him 5 ft. combat ends. The order of combat (the sequence of turns/actions each person gets) is a little off, but other than that everything we are seeing in that sequence is an action and/or spell that is in the DnD board game and plays out like the DnD board game. Its very well done.

@@lordofudead Simon's spell is almost certainly scorching ray; the verbal component he used seemed a little too dramatic for a cantrip, and there were precisely three blasts of targeted flame, which is what a base level scorching ray does. As for timing, the ironic thing here is that that many rounds takes several minutes at a table if not longer, with people generally regarding combat as quite a long thing, but in universe a single round of actions is only six seconds, regardless of the number of people, with everything happening all at once. This group were just slightly quicker than that, but not so you'd really care. This is less how the game plays out and more how the game was originally written to play out

@@lordofudead Nice nerding there, I really appreciate. I think, though, that Simon is a sorcerer (a play on "Simon the Sorcerer"?) due to the scene with the brain-gobblers. They ignore the whole party. If he was a wizard, he should have more points in INT. And his progression makes sense as he gains more charisma being more and more confident. Because sorcerers are the stronger the more Charisma they have.

Considering how the Red Wizards of Thay opperate on any standard Forgotten Realms game... This is 100% accurate as why they would do basically anything.

@@lumberlucI have a Dragonborn bardbarian character who carries around a double bass enchanted to be unbreakable as her primary weapon and instrument both - stats-wise it's just a standard warhammer. Basic principle was that she'd be playing it, and if someone threw her off her groove then she'd just invert her grip on the neck and start swinging it around instead. The first time she ever hit an enemy with it in the first campaign (Frozen Sick) I played her in she nearly derailed the campaign entirely (we were fighting bandits and were supposed to take one alive to interrogate, I attacked the last one with her, rolled a Nat 20 to hit and then rolled full damage, so he went from full health to insta-dead in one blow). The DM had to roll it back to merely fatally wounded so that we had time to interrogate him and the story didn't stop right there. Still one of my all time favourite moments with that character all these years later. Imagine if I'd played a long enough campaign to be able to try and convince the DM to just let me upgrade her double bass' stats every time she got a better warhammer, the absolute meme-ing I could've been dishing out on Exandria would've been incredible.

He's a paladin - why didn't he use turn-undead? ) The finger of death in the end looks really cool too. A really entertaining movie, they might have worked on the story, characters more - but then it would have to be built into a series.

Well, I think in the first time stop scene things didn't instantly freeze, so even if she saw those slight movements it wouldn't necessarily mean anything.

After rewatching it, Doric looks like she forced a pose as the wave hit her, it doesn't look natural the way she just stops. You also see Edgin breathing and twitching when Sofina was speaking next to him

lmao. It's not a mistake, or poor timing, or poor acting. Do you think it would not have been reshot if it were not intentional? This isn't real life you know... the CGI can be sped up or slowed down to "match" the timings of the actors. Occam's razor; They acted through the bubble so fools like you could see Sofina's time stop didn't work.

Druid's main stat is wisdom so she would have low charisma and no proficiency in performance making her the worst at acting. Sorcerer's main stat is charisma giving him a high performance modifier but probably no proficiency making him decent at acting, but not quite as good as a bard who's main stat is charisma and likely has proficiency or even expertise in performance. This is definitely intentionally done because there are other scenes where these "passive checks" take place such as the scene where the intellect devourers ignore them in the underdark (since none of their party members have a reason to have a high intelligence stat).

She got them Legendary Actions too, certain creatures have the ability to perform actions at the end of other creatures' and players' turns.

Frankly that's more frightening than the spells, unless she had Wish.

Bearing in mind "hits" are just something that makes the person expend effort to stay safe, so even the misses would steal deal damage to HP...: 0:15 _Maximiian's Earthen Grasp_ to grapple Sofina's _Grasping Hand._ 1:17 3nd-Level _Magic Missile_ two "hits" and three blocked by Sofina's _Shield._ 1:21 _Quickened Witch Bolt,_ failed on _Shield_ or maybe _Counterspelled._ 1:23 _Scorching Ray,_ guessing three hits, Sofina was getting shook around to evade them rather than clean dodges. 1:30 _Subtle Major Image_ set up, covering the "failed" _Counterspell._ Brilliant showcase of a Sorcerer.

@@helios1087 Yes she is undead, & it certainly makes it harder to kill her, but not impossible. Her boss, Szass Tam is a Lich & that makes him "nearly immortal". The only way to "fully" kill him is to find & destroy his phylactery that contains his soul & then also destroy his physical form too.

true. red wizards of thay are ALL liches, you could say their hierachy only starts with lichdom. so without access to her phylactery to destroy it (it might be a very well guarded place...) she will reassemble there, even if her material form is totally desintegrated. the only loss might be the items she had on her at the time, but for a lich this is only a minor inconvenience.

Yep, what MaoBZW said. When a Lich's physical form is destroyed, their soul instantly returns to their phylactery (wherever it might be, even if it's on another Plane of Existence). The anti-magic bracelet won't stop this, as only specialized spells can stop a soul from leaving a dead body. Really, really powerful Liches will keep their phylacteries in insanely well-protected and guarded locales; I remember one particular drow lich kept his hidden inside a 40 ft-tall spider-shaped stone golem that stood inside the great hall of his House's palace, so anybody wanting to destroy his phylactery would have to deal with not only the giant golem, but the guards, priestesses and mages of an entire drow House.

Lich or other powerful undead, either way a good DM doesn't allow such a villain to be killed that easy. Look how many times the damned Briarwoods keep popping up in Critical Role! Look what it cost Vox Machina to defeat Vecna. No no. Even if the bracelet is powerful enough to block magic, including Regen, all that needs to happen is some fool or another Thayan finding one of the keys or another way to remove it. New campaign! She'll be back one or another.

Unless that bracelet can soul trap, her soul would be drawn by the power of her own phylactery the moment she died. Locking just her magic alone would not prevent this. That is assuming she is an actual Lich and not simply a high ranking Red Wizard of Thay. If she wasn't a Lich, her success in Balder's Gate probably would've resulted in her learning the lichdom ritual by her master as a reward.
