I have been riding my 1250 for some time now, nearly 3 years. To date I have put 3 different brands of tyre onto my bike. Always trying to suite my riding style and also what I use my bike for. My bike is basically a big donkey that brings me and all my equipment from Essex to various parts of the UK to make race videos. The tyres need to be able to take Motorway and A roads and bumpy Broads in their stride. The Dunlop has a lot to live up to. As the Continental I took off was fantastic.
Next review on the Mutant, I will update the noise that comes from the Tyre. Oddly now that I Have new custom fit guards (ear defenders) I can now hear noise coming from the tyres. It does not bother me. But thought I would mention. and I am still loving them.

The big old GS is fairly kind to tyres, I've never got past 7K miles on any make of tyre. I think it's the most important decision you can make when owning a bike. If you've not got confidence in your tyres, you're not going to enjoy the ride. Thanks for the review, and merry Christmas to you and Yours.

Totally agree for the first while I really didn’t enjoy my new bike! The continental tyres transformed it! Happy Christmas to you and yours! Thank you for all your support in 2023! Much appreciated

Please read the additional comment below my video! I still love this tyre and have ridden many miles on it since this video. However these is an amount of road noise off of the mutant. I did say that I couldn’t hear any. Thank you for your message! Murt

Also went for the Mutant. Very nice handling and hardly any vibrations ✌️

I have to agree with you on the “hardly any” oddly I have just bought a new set of custom fit guards which I love! But I can now hear that vibration you are talking about. It really doesn’t bother me! But I know it would put some off. Thank you for your message!! Much appreciated. Murt 😁👍

Thanks for the real world review. I'm just about to replace my 2nd set of Mutants. I got 7,200 miles on my first set down to 1.5mm on rear, still about 1, 000 miles left on the front. 2nd set has covered 6.350 miles but that included an IAM Skills Day at Thruxton which ate through 1,000 miles worth of tread in the day. Great grip in both the wet, very wet and dry. One minor downside, I have found that both sets tend to track/twitch on longitudinal road imperfections as they reach about 5k. In saying that, I would happily put a set on again but I fancy trying something else. I ride a 1250GS all year round covering about 15k miles a year. This comprises of pleasure runs, touring and as a Blood Runner which is usually at night and all year in all weathers apart from ice. I have owned the GS a little over a year covering 18k miles so far. I did not like the OE Bridgestone A41's and replaced them early at 4k miles. I found that on wet winter roads the rear was prone to spin up on occasion and they always felt twitchy in the wet. I'm trying a set of Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2's next, we will see how they do.

Good to see you back, that's big mileage.I run Karoo 3 when I go away as I am 90% on dirt and a Karoo 70/30 on when on tar and some dirt, bit noisy but they handle well and I'm deaf😅 only around 5000 km 😢 great video Murt.

Still suffering with a bloody cold nearly 3 weeks now. Everyone says that the continental will return higher milage than the Dunlop. But that may mean that I get better grip in those miles. I guess I’ll know at the end of next year! Happy Christmas mate. All the very best to you and your family.

Cheers Murt, i will be very interested on your longer term review on the mutants. I had the AVON Spirit ST on my last GSA, the 2nd pair that were on it when i traded it in had over 9,000 miles on them after a european two up full luggage 4,000 mile tour, and plenty left on them, and still not squared off either ! So i can def recommend the Avons. They are a road tyre but i will be fitting them to my new bike when the supplied on new tyres are done...no tyre noise, 100% stable in wet or dry...hot or cold weather too !.... The Michlin Annakee adventures were on my 1st gsa from new. Didn't like them, just never felt planted on tarmac, useless off road unless it was dry compact gravel or dry grass ! Got rid of them as soon as i could too !! Cheers buddy !

Hi Murt, I've heard good reports about the Dunlop Mutant. Your fellow KZfaqrs - Ridercam TV have raved about them. Here in rural Ireland and the odd trip on the Spanish gravel roads abroad, I run the Conti TDK70's back and front on my 2016 GSA. The rear is still okay for another 2.5k miles, so I can expect to get 8.5 - 9.0k miles. The front however, didn't last 5k miles. Always run at the manufacturer's recommended pressures, they were still legal maybe for another maximum 1k miles but the soft blocks of the tyre cross section had worn much faster than the harder sections, specifically on the right hand tyre wall. As a consequence, whilst riding in a straight line some patter became evident on the occasional smooth surface, at speed. They still performed okay on the numerous bad roads ! No issues with grip though. I checked this out with at least two motorcycle tyre 'experts', who confirmed that this was not unusual. I'd thought it might be my riding style (or, lack of), or a problem with the compound. Apparently, the excessive right side tyre wear compared to the left side, is in part due to navigating numerous Irish and UK roundabouts 🙂 and more right hand bends ..... mmmh. Going into winter, I decided to swap out just the front for the same again, last month. I paid £124, so okay I think price-wise to miles, I think (?) My experience with the Anekees was as yours. They were on the bike when I purchased second hand, but for me they were not confidence inspiring, although they never let go. So despite the fact there was equal wear left, back and front, I replaced with the TDK's, about 15 months ago. I'm very happy with the Conti TDKs. Grip has been confidence inspiring none more so than over the last 6 days riding in the biblical downpours, on all road types, whilst on a 1.5k mile round trip in the UK on the annual Xmas present delivery to the kids. So that's me, plus lots of luggage, there and back :-) I'll be interested to get your ongoing report of the Mutants as I'm thinking of fitting them in the future, if they are the 70-30 tyre as claimed. Have a great Xmas and New Year Cheers, Des

Long time no hear! I have missed you! I have done about 400 miles on the Dunlop’s and so far I love them. I fitted a set of Pirelli Scorpions to my 1200 GS and hated them. So all being well the Dunlops should keep me in good shape for next season! Happy Christmas Des hope to get over to Ireland next year! Murt

Conti TA3 V rated will oulast the others by 1500mls, they have a very deep amount of tread, 8mm to the wear markers, the W rated 6mm to the markers. A cracking tyre, very popular in the GS community.

Was hoping to actually have a full review of the mutants given the title 🙃 but no idea what mileage to expect from the rear. But you seem to get big mileage from tyres somehow. You just ride extremely conservatively.

Yea I get that! I made this video really early part of this year and to be honest I was super impressed by the tyres. So did the review. Having now done some 4k on the tyres I am still super impressed. There is a small amount of road noise which I hadn’t noticed at first, however very low! Grip is very impressive and the roll into and out of corners is like nothing else I have ever used. Confidence inspiring. The Dunlop mutant now let me ride my 1250 gsa the way I want to. Tyre life I probably squeeze a few more miles out of the life of a tyre. Pleasure riding, touring and commuting to work! Hope that helps! Murt

I must be doing something wrong it does not matter what tyre i put on my GS adventure i get roughley 8,000 km ,with the bridgstone a 41 4,000 km the front was ruined. Not sure what tyre to put on 80,20 or 90 ,10 tyre would be my choice. Perhaps the Metzler roadtec 2.

@@scootjockey all depends on how you ride the bike and if you’re always got luggage on! I’ve had the Dunlop’s on for about 2.5k now and love them! Thank you for your message 😆👍 Murt

I have the conti as front tire on my 1250GSA and is not grippy enough for me. Start sliding in a predictable way, still though, this tire don't give me any confidence. Maybe I have a bad tire that was stocked too long or something.

It just boggles me people getting thousands of miles on tires I cant get crap miles out of my tires. But I am here even though all I ride is twisties paved but a riding pal today who is very fast claims his next tires will be the mutants! WTH? On a SPORT BIKE being ridden very fast? So I just want to see these tires! They sure dont look like hypersport tires? Go figure! They look like 80 20 tires! ADV tires not road burners?
