I really like this product with only one little hitch, I ordered the blue/black but it looked more like black after I applied it, it did make a great finish though, just darker than I would have liked.

I'm seriously considering using this product to restore an old Remington Model 6 i acquired. I have it completely stripped down to remove rust that had accumulated over the years, and have all the parts down to bare metal. Will there be any fitting issues if I blued all the pins with the receiver and barrel?
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes 8 жыл бұрын
+crs hokie There should not be any tolerance issues since DuraBlue is a rather thin product. You can apply less DuraBlue to certain areas, such as the pins, if you are concerned with tolerance issues though. Just be sure to apply enough DuraBlue so that the surface is still protected. Also, the parts that are down to bare metal at this time will begin to corrode between now and when you apply the DuraBlue. Be sure to clean and then rough up the surfaces of the parts immediately before coating with DuraBlue to ensure that you do not experience any issues.

Any tips for finishing a barrel or barrels that have porting? I don't want any of the "over-spray" to fall inside the barrel. Thanks for your quick responses!
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes 6 жыл бұрын
The porting will need to be plugged so that no DuraCoat gets inside of the barrel. You never want to get any DuraCoat inside of the barrel. There are many items you can use to plug the porting. Something as simple as paper towel can be put into the porting to plug it. The end goal being to keep any DuraCoat from getting into the barrel. For aesthetic purposes, it's nice to plug the porting in a way that the "inside" of the porting is coated, but yet the DuraCoat cannot go all the way through the porting and into the barrel. We hope this all makes sense! Always remember to plug both ends of the barrel as well to prevent any DuraCoat from getting inside. If you have any further questions, please let us know!

Can I Durablue a C96 Broomhandle Mauser? I'm asking because of the way the gun is designed, lower with upper barrel resiprocation when fired. You should make a video of one being Durablued in matte blue or blue black and show it firing afterwards!? That would be very helpful, thanks.

Yes, you can DuraBlue a Mauser C96. We have a Matte DuraBlue video in the works that should be released some time in the near future. It won't include any footage of guns being fired unfortunately, but it will show the Matte DuraBlue coating process in great detail and have good footage of the final results.

Can this be applied to a Chinese MAK90 that is already blued without stripping the previous bluing off as long as it is thoroughly degreased? Reason i ask is because they aren't blued very deep and I'm adding a new gas block and front sight block.
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, if the bluing is in good condition (and with no rust present), then DuraBlue can be applied over the top of the original bluing. The surfaces should be completely cleaned before coating using our TruStrip Cleaner/Degreaser and a soft, clean rag. Keep in mind that the barrel and gas system get quite hot on this type of firearm. DuraBlue can withstand temperatures up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit. If you use the rifle in a way that will heat those parts up to temperatures higher than that, then we recommend for those parts our DuraHeat 2.0 coating, which can withstand temperatures up to 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit.

How long should should the entire process take, from surface preparation to after the final coat has been applied? Can't wait to get started on my project!
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for choosing DuraBlue for your project! Unfortunately, how long the process will take you is a very difficult question to answer. That is personal to your specific project, what exactly your coating, how many parts you're coating, how you're preparing the surface, etc. As can be seen from the video, the time spent actually spraying DuraBlue is rather short, so most of your time will be in preparing the parts for coating and in waiting for the solvents to flash off in between layers.

DuraCoat Firearm Finishes Thank you for the quick response! Let me ask you this instead: About how long did it take, once again from surface prep to final coat for the revolver in the video? Thanks again!
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes 6 жыл бұрын
We completed this project and video over three years ago, so unfortunately and honestly, we don't exactly recall. Our best guess is that it took us about thirty minutes or so from surface preparation to final coat for this revolver.

I have just ordered Durablue Polished black. My question is, if Durablue is as resistant as normal duracoat, and what about heat resistance. I ask this, because I used normal Duracoat on a Dragunov 3 years ago, with GREAT SUCCESS, and the result was great. I´m going to apply it on a bolt action heavy barrel tactical rifle (Remington 40XS Tactical) Greetings

Thank you for purchasing DuraBlue! We're happy to hear you've had great success with our DuraCoat. Our DuraBlue has the same durability and heat resistance as our DuraCoat. DuraBlue has excellent abrasion, impact, and corrosion resistance, and can withstand temperatures up to 600°F.

Is the air only step required with the aerosol version?
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes 6 жыл бұрын
Whether you're using the aerosol or liquid version, the solvents must be flashed off in between layers. This can be achieved by either blowing clean air on the parts for approximately 10 seconds or by allowing the parts to sit for approximately 5 minutes in between layers.

can acetone be used as a degreaser ? ASAP!
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes
@DuraCoatFirearmFinishes 8 жыл бұрын
+TheFirefox8192 We recommend using our TruStrip Cleaner/Degreaser for cleaning parts before coating with DuraBlue. TruStrip is specially formulated to remove all grease, dirt, oil, etc. and also to dry quickly and not leave a residue. A high-quality acetone can be used as a degreaser if needed.
