I'm a born and bred Durbanite and I love the spicy food. No matter how many bunny chows I've eaten, each one is an occasion taking it out of the packet and removing the paper it's wrapped in (the take-away way of serving it to you). There is just something about it that I don't get from any other meal, cheap or expensive. Damn, now I'm hungry!!

The spices she isusing are EXACTLY what Mom used to use & so did ALL the community, in Punjab, did that... There is yogurt orcream used, but not EVERY TIME. Most of the time it is tomatoes. The basic most popular is the one with thye tomatoes... whether we cook the mutton, lamb, or keema. And yes... Potatoes... They are BETTER than the mutton it is put in... gives a kind of creaminess to the curry.

Nice recipe! You only used 1 tea spoon of Ginger Garlic paste for 1 kg meat, isn’t it too little amount. I would use at least 4 tea spoons for this amount.

Cream, milk and coconut only used in the southern Indian recipes for meat chicken fish etc. What this lady cooks is the Eastern Indian mutton recipe, mostly used by Bengali (West Bengal) and Odisha . You can search it in here and guaranteed you will get more delicacy recipes. And this lady's pronouncing quite like Indian.

Quick question from a newb "boerseun" What will the difference be if I fry my spices beforehand? I add the bay leaves, cloves, cardamon, star anise, fennel, coriander, etc in and fry them for 3 minutes on medium, then add the onion and garlic/ginger, and 5 minutes later the tomato.

Does anyone know kind of curry powder should be used for this dish?
@pietervheerden4 жыл бұрын
My guess is that they probably mean masala in stead of curry powder? If you like it nica and hot (the way a Durban curry should be), it probably means using something like Mother-in law Masala.

Lamb is the baby, mutton is basically fully grown. Therefore lamb is more tender than mutton as it is younger.

Guys, I am here on this platform because I am looking for a Mutton curry recipe that tastes like the one I had now at Kababish in Florida Road, Durban. Wow! That was Mutton curry with a difference. Absolutely Devine. The Mutton curry on the video is a standard and basic recipe. Anyone who can share that Indian experience of a bunny chow at Kababish. There is an ingredient in that Mutton curry which I can't place. I do think they use Kashmiri Chillies, black cardoman.... And that unusual spice? HELP someone. Would love to cook it like Kababish.

How can u call this mutton, if it's lamb, and no it is not the same thing
@pietervorster56904 жыл бұрын
Maybe in Durban you struggled to get lamb but we live in the Karoo, here it’s basically only lamb, specifically Karoo lamb, much better than fatty meat from NZ and AUS, the scrub in this area gives it its world renowned flavor.
