Keep the vids coming Hoocho. Inspired me to get back into hydro again. Years ago I found it easier to just hang ordinary bailing twine from a top wire down to your buckets. Hold the twine in one hand and gently wrap the plant around the twine from bottom of plant to top of plant. Much easier when plant is only about 30cm high. Just keep wrapping as they grow. Works on Capsicums as well. Also when growing away from polinators ie in your grow house, you can just give the wire a few flicks to polinate tomatoes etc. Hope this helps.

Drill a hole at the top of the bucket and tie the bottom of your leader line to it then fasten it to the cross brace. Prevents any bruising at all at the stem.

I've had two failures doing the tomato twist. One where the plants slipped down and the string made the stem snap a few inches above ground and one where the string was too tight and strangled the plant. I prefer the trellis clips.

Checkout Spring Hill Farms videos. They show how to prune tomatoes and peppers and how to trellis both. Tomato clips work fantastic for clipping them on string. I do love all your videos and enjoy watching your successes and failures.

I'm glad you like the Dutch bucket system so much. It's one of my favorites, and my go-to. I do ask however, if you need to readjust fencing in videos, you either mute your volume, or at least turn it down significantly. You're not the loudest talker, so I generally have the volume up pretty high when I watch your videos. So when you started slamming metal on metal I feel like I almost blew my speakers out

Hey hoocho, been watching for ages now, A great channel mate, so helpful. you did a video on different nutrients and some pricing, any more info on that?? I won't say brands here but I use an expensive liquid type and was thinking of changing it to a powder form. I am in Australia southern state, but there's not much info or places in my area. so before a trip to the big smoke, I was hoping you might have some suggestions or online sites where I could get a good cheap powder that works as a general broad nutrient not just for greens but other veg , caps, cues, toms, straws, you know... cheers mate

you´re doing quite tight windings with the twine around your tomato stems. I do one winding per ca. 20cm, I looked there how the commercial growers do it. You would need less twine and when I think it through it should strangulate the plants less in my opinion. Maybe it´s irrelevant in practice, just want to give you there a reference. I use tomato hooks with twine tho, so the plants can be grown longer than the hight of the suspension.

Very helpful thanks Hoocho. Do you use rain tank water for your hydroponics and if so do you purify it? I'm on tank water. Unless I boil it I get a algae taking over my hydroponic water. But boiling it takes ages and wastes fuel. I'm thinking about bubbling ozone through the rainwater before use. What do you reckon?

Question when you are running grow lights. Do you run 24x7 or give a dark rest period? If you do give a rest period, how long? edit: And I agree on NFT vs Dutch Buckets. I only run leafy greens in my NFT. Peppers and Tomatoes in Dutch buckets, all in my basement, hence the grow light question... LOL
@jackawwwf2236
@jackawwwf2236 3 жыл бұрын
If you check out some of his grow light vids (cheap amazon LED video I think is a recent one) with time lapses it should give you a solid answer. Plants time themselves and react to the night/day, stretching and moving between light and dark times. 18/6 and 20/4 both work, I had peppers in 18/6 recently and they were super happy.
@Hoocho

Do the tomatoes taste like tomatoes ? Might appear to be a silly question , but all commercially grown tomatoes taste rubbish. I have to say that I have managed to grow excellent tomatoes that taste like they should in buckets , in soil. What about hydroponics ? Do you get the real tomato taste ?
@Hoocho
@Hoocho 3 жыл бұрын
Some of the tastiest tomatoes you’ll ever eat, obviously depends on variety, but the heirloom ones in my “harvesting hydroponic tomatoes” video were to die for
@harryme472
@harryme472 3 жыл бұрын
@@Hoocho Thanks Hoocho , that is very reassuring to hear. I will look at that video , thanks. Yes heirloom is what I grow too. Some amazing varieties among that group , I grew some I had never tasted before , including some " Russian Black " etc , which were also nice , if a little soft.. I asked because there will be generations of younger Australians who will never know what a real tomato actually tastes like , which ( I think ) is unforgiveable . I don`t even want to get started talking about strawberries..........Too often , one reads only about yield .It`s not only about that , is it ?
