Geeez, I am getting myself a Mercedes Camper Van door for my house. We Americans like to claim we are the best at everything but these guys are superior to any US Fire Department. Two hoses actively engaging in less than 60 seconds. The US firefighters are still putting on their gear by that time. Excellent job

US) - which houses one of the main manufacturers of hydraulic cutting equipment ?

So good to see a crew arrive, suited up and ready to attack the fire. Not like here in the U.S. where they get off the truck, stand around, put on their protective gear and have a little walk about before trying to put a little water on the fire.

They have to come from their job B. They have to come from home C. Or any other inconvenient space. When we do a rive there are certain guidelines we have to follow such as we aren’t allowed( in most cases) to have our helmets on while responding) another problem that you guys are stating is that we simply stand around with a thumb up our cracks. We don’t most of the time there is a team doin a “360” where the check the fire out of let’s say house fire or a car fire. It takes a second then a second team goes into said or or checks into the car for any victims. @@sure_ur_right8164 A lot of European FDs are also volunteer or retained (on-call); it's as high as 90% in Germany, for example, and most of England outside London relies on retained firefighters. Not disagreeing with your main statement when I say that, though! Every country has its own way of doing things which has evolved over the decades, and a lot of KZfaq commentators seem to assume that there is only "one true way" of doing things, which simply isn't true; I wish they'd be more open-minded.

Very good job boys! Only thing I can recommend for the future is don't be afraid to open the bonnet ASAP, with something like a Halligan. Better access to the seat of the fire mean you can knock it down that much quicker and the foam will be much more effective if it can cover all the surfaces under the hood. Combi tools are great, but you don't have to wait for them and every truck and engine should have a Halligan. Good thinking to use the tow truck as a secure elevated platform.

Interested in knowing what your instructions are regarding the use of foam from an environmental perspective? Many departments in Sweden tend to be very conservative with using it these days (basically limited to use when life depends on it). This goes for the new types of foam that are supposed to be better for the environment as well (turns out they are basically just as bas as the old ones according to some). Thanks for some really interesting and educational videos, keep up the work and stay safe!

If you don't use foam, it takes a lot longer to extinguish the fire as it is polluting the environment with much more harmful toxins than the foam would. In the long run, foam is safer for the firefighters and is better for the environment.

It's the first attack line: especially on motorways, getting a line for water supply can be a big problem. For almost every fire, it's standard practice anyway to start fighting the fire with a first attack line. Your fellow firefighters will take care of finding watersupply for the big hose(s) while the first attack is taken care of by other members of the crew.
@EnjoyFirefighting

with the attack hose reel / booster reel you can start a fire attack within 30 seconds upon arrival; Apart from it being very effective, one team can set up a supply line and normal attack line at the same time

The black rubber hose is also high pressure, so despite its smaller diameter it can put the same amount of water on the fire as a standard hose. It is also better in atomizing the water because of the higher pressure, which helps to cool down the gasses and smoke in a first attack. Its also connected with a foam agent tank, so foam can be used instantly without having to set up the equipment first, in case of vehicle fires with flamable fuels this is standard procedure, to avoid spreading around the fire (I have seen that happening on US vehicle fire videos that often, even spraying burning gas over fellow FFs on the other side of the vehicle)

I can't find anything on helmet-hierarchy in the Netherlands. I do know that clothing is used to emphasize someones task/rank. 'Officer in charge' for example, is the person that is the most qualified in big emergencies (large multiple vehicle crashes with multiple casualties). He/she will deploy a green emergency beacon on the vehicle he/she is driving. The green beacon could also be used to notify other ambulances which ambulance crew was the first at scene (and thus is likely to have the most knowledge of the situation) Those people usually pull a green 'hi-vis' (not really hi-vis, but the idea is the same) over their normal clothing. There's probably more, but I don't know about that.

I don't know everything, as I am not a fireman. But the helmetcolor is not showing anything. Historically the helmets of the firebrigade were white, with black uniforms, bearing white high viz stripes. Nowadays the color of the uniforms and helmets are changing. In the Netherlands the ranking is quite simple in the fire brigade. Every vehicle has a commander (bevelvoerder in Dutch). The shoulder section of his uniform is of a different color. Unfortunately I don't have the different color available from the top of my head. When two or more vehicles are dispatched, a secondary vehicle will automaticaly be dispatched with an officer in charge (officier van dienst). He has a different shoulder color than the vehicle commanders. If more than one officer in charge is necessary on scene, a higher commander will be called in. One vehicle will be called to be the commanding vehicle for every branch of the emergency services. This vehicle will show the green flashing light. In the Netherlands btw the emergency branches flock together in emergency regions. Very big incidents will be anwered also by officers of the regions. They don't fly a green light, they drive green vehicles. In my region the command vehicle provided by the region is a green truck. But that one is only used in very big incidents.
