This is unbelievable, our dog knows your voice, probably because I have watched so many of your videos, she was following your instructions with the place, sit and stay!!! You are the best and can't tell you how much your videos have helped us. I actually had my husband go to the garage, knock on the door, and she stayed in a sit, stay until I gave her the command to be free. Like you say "the proof is in the pudding."

Exactly the technique we use on our Neapolitan mastiff. As a guardian breed he’s pretty hardcore when unknown people come over. When he hears them out the front, he barks, we say “enough” and send him to his bed. Guests enter, dog stays, we greet and small talk and then dog is released to come say hi. In the early days of training he was also tethered and not allowed to greet the guests for 30 minutes, by then he’d lost most interest and understood it wasn’t his job to determine who was welcome in our home.
@Ms.OliversLife2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I also feel like a tether is a good idea. My GSD mix is a baby still and his impulse control is limited yet. I also feel he would bite a stranger. I just feel it. So I need 100% safety. He’s so hateful toward strangers. Meh.

The only slight thing I could say about this and its not at all a negative about the technique because obviously his experience and results speak for themselves and I'm learning so much from the videos myself.. However that said lol one thing I noticed that was pretty difficult for him to get his head round was using place or bed. It's obvious he uses bed with all his dogs and this couple uses place. Once your in a habit of using one word to identify something it's almost impossible to rename it. As we know consistency is key that includes names of objects. Your teachings are so helpful. I love training my dog daily. She's an amazing Husky but I never accept that she's the complete article. Every day with every experience is a great opportunity for me to do some work with her. I don't want a police dog obedience nor do I want to train the personality out of my dog but it's so important to me that my commands are the most important words that she has to listen to at all times. I've been practising teaching her to walk with her lead trailing on the side walk, reinforcing the come command and adding the point (where I want her to come to) that was something I didn't know to do. Also following up on the park if she doesn't come or listen to me, I used to accept a five minute, I'll come when I choose. But now I will follow it up and for me at least its just a great way to interact with my dog to get positive results. Having never owned a dog in my life its so important to me that she is the best trained and behaved dog everywhere we go. I don't understand why people would even consider bringing a puppy home if they're not prepared to spend the quality time with it to train them. We as dog owners have a responsibility to all human life that our animals are safe and pose no risk, especially to the very small and vulnerable children. I've learned that you have to have a lot of confidence in your own ability and your own judgement to always do the right thing at the right time. If you don't show your dog trust then your dog won't show you trust. Equally if you don't allow your dog freedoms then you can't correct mistakes that they may make, so when they eventually do make a mistake they think it's totally fine and you won't have the knowledge or the tools to be able to correct it. Training is bonding and if you love your dog it's not hard. It can be frustrating but I imagine having human babies is frustrating too.
@Cathan18562 жыл бұрын
The main thing seems to be the dog doesn’t get away with things. Sometimes friendly dogs do and good on the owners for training him to not do that. Many owners just let them run up because they are “friendly”.

I learned really quick after owning a Belgian Malinois and a Dutch Shepherd that they must be active each day to the point of exhaustion. Having two breeds that are almost equal in power, drive, and endurance helps a lot because they will do 75% of the exercise themselves. If you only own one though, you better be in good shape because they are race cars that want to run at full speed. If you let them get bored, then you can say goodbye to anything nice that is made out of wood or fabric.
@rozannaedwro934 Жыл бұрын
That is so true. My female Dutchie gets walked a fast paced hour walk in morning come rain or shine. Also we do a 45 minute fast paced walk in afternoon as well as a play time. If she doesn’t get that second walk she will destroy furniture , cushions wood base boards etc. one good thing about it is she generally gives me the stink eye before she finds something to destroy. 🙀
@norarivkis2513 Жыл бұрын
I had the world's most laid-back Dutchie, and she was still pretty active. She wanted to be with me 100% of the time, including if that meant she didn't get too much exercise. And it did, since I have fibromyalgia, so I can't do that much energetic, physical stuff. I got super lucky.... if I had any other Dutch Shepherd, I would've had problems. Eventually, I trained her as a service dog, which gave her a job *and* kept her near me where she wanted to be.

When dogs lick their owners' hands, feet, face, and mouth, it is a sign of sweetness. This is a remnant from when they were puppies and used to lick their mothers for food. When a dog licks its owner, it is showing the same kind of affection to the owner as it would to its own mother. Some friendly dogs will lick their owners even if they have never met them before, a behavior that is often seen in puppyhood. This is a cute gesture, but it is a hygienically unsafe behavior. In such a case, it is better to stop the behavior by standing up and answer the dog's desire to be pampered by petting and playing with him a lot instead.🐶🐶🐶🐶🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕
@bellers2 жыл бұрын
Could argue that will only reinforce the behaviour, it will soon learn that every time it licks or attempts to lick it will receive affection.

Exactly. Great video, but my german shepperd mix just bite my mom today not harmed her just ripped her jacket, but thats total no with me and she (simba the dog) is doing runs. And mom spends lot of tíme with her (Simba). Now i ak worired. Today at our walk A must to give her give her about 40 - 50 corrections pulling and no result. That is one hell of a reactive dog. Man i was exhausted. Each times ring bells , mobile phone rings , she (dog) is mad. I will try this method and see if it works.

@becman's would you be able to record some videos with puppy ? we got a month ago BC puppy - now she is 5 months and we have also 5 years old BC. In our head we though it will worked out between them two but apparently nah... We re also still learning each other but so far we found that she is an aggressive around food (not myself or my partner cause we didnt let her - but the other dog wont give her a feedback and she 'won' the fights couple times where we were to late too break it out), she is nipping him all the time, when he plays with toys or in the park - she is fully focuses on him and there is nooo way to get her focus on me even if we create a distance - better walk them separately but that cannot be the solution !) that also apply when she is in the park and always picks up one dog and treat it like a sheep - maybe its in BC'bloods but that just drives me crazy ! also we live in a very busy area - Dublin and we need to get her to adopt to the noises ASAP but instead of getting better and kind getting to use it she stops on the walks/everything distracting her i know parks (quite environment) are the best to train but before we get there we need to walk over... ! i am afraid that we re doing something wrong and i read that the dog can shut down :/

I have DS 's why are these people buying these dogs like this the female watches the knocking on the door instead of the dog and his change of demeanor, it tells you everything. Oh because they are cool which they are , but a real DS requires constant eyes on a swivel. Joel did a fantastic job of showing how the human needs to control door meetings. All new DS owners should watch . These dogs are smarter than the human pet owners ability to understand it is not a golden doodle that plays nice in the city dog parks. Luckily it is a sensitive dog which is easy to control. Hard bred dogs can be tough, from experience if this was a real DS they would put the dog down. I wish the best, but you have to be hard until the dog understands you control their world not the other way around. Really happy that you did not seek out a positive only trainer. world not the other way around. Really happy that you did not seek out a positive only trainer.

Hey guys! So I am in need of help here lol. My family has just taken in a dog about 4 days ago because he was in an abusive situation. He's an 11 month old Bullmastiff. He has finally come out of his shell and he has shown that he loves to hump people and it's not good at all because he is probably around 90 pounds already and could hurt someone unintentionally. I have been working on him for around 2 days since he started it and he is absolutely relentless I am actually kind of clueless as to what to do. (Our other dogs all of which are pitbulls are well behaved) so I thought this wouldn't be all too bad, but man was I wrong lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm open to any safe method!

When my puppy started humping her toys, I found that it was because of too much energy. Correcting didn't work for me. As soon as she would start I would distract her with another toy and play tug or catch with her until she became a bit tired. I did that every time she did it and she is now 11 months and doesn't do it anymore. That is just my experience with my high energy dog. hope it helps. Good luck
