In this video, I mess around with one of Blizzard Entertainment's earliest releases under the Blizzard Entertainment name and their attempt at a cinematic platformer, the 1994 release Blackthorne.

I loved early blizzard games like Blackthorne and Rock&roll racing. It's when they started making warcraft that my interested in the company waned.

when it comes to blizzard i really enjoyed the lost vikings 1 and 2 and warcraft 1 and 2. When it came to starcraft and warcraft 3 I never could understand the campaigns story, and i didn't like that it is basically one long campaign with all the races as opposed to self-contained campaigns that each had it's own ending. I enjoyed warcraft 1 and 2 as a fast paced game.

Yo DW, apropos Prince of Persia you strike me as someone who didn't like Warrior Within and favored the Two Thrones because it returned to the Sands of Time vibes

Funnily enough the most I've played of the Sands of Time trilogy is the demo of Warrior Within, and I was fairly ambivalent toward it. Didn't mess around much with Sands of Time and haven't even tried Two Thrones out at all. Ultimately decided to tackle the PoP series in release order so I'll get around to them eventually.

You should try the Lost Vikings games if youre trying old Blizzard IPs. It had a unique twist by being an adventure puzzle game.

This is a cool game. It has a dedicated button to shoot behind your back. I used to be really into Blizzard. I loved Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. The Lost Vikings series is also great, and they did a fantastic Superman beat em up on SNES. That was about when I ended my friendship with them though. Not an MMO person, so WOW did nothing for me. There was a time when seeing their logo on a game filled me with excitement. I'm not going to pretend they weren't ripping off Games Workshop. I think they originally wanted Warcraft to be a Warhammer game. But then, Games Workshop ripped off Robert Heinlein, so it's all good. Still, sometimes when I play one of their old games and see that logo come up, I can kind of recreate that youthful joy.

fun fact: it was called BlackHAWK in Germany, the same as like "drive-thru" is called "drive-in" here because americans surely don't trust us with the "th" and I can't blame 'em

It was released as Blackhawk in all of Europe, from what I understand. There doesn't seem to be much of a reason for it, though. Maybe trying to make it seem more "Native American" for marketing even though the character isn't one. Who knows? There's actually a difference between the terms in the American vernacular. "Drive-thru" always refers to businesses where you... well... drive through them. It used to just be fast food but there are a few other things that have that service these days. A lot of pharmacies, for example, have drive thru lanes so you can pick up your prescriptions without having to go inside. The term "drive-in," on the other hand, always refers to a drive-in movie theater. Even though they're practically extinct now, that's always the mental image that gets conjured up. I don't think those were ever really a thing in Europe though so you guys wouldn't have the same connotation.

One of the classics of my childhood. But something here is very wrong, the music sucks so hard. What I remember most about this game is the absolute great soundtrack. It's available on KZfaq, you should listen to it, the first few tracks are really cool.

I'm guessing you played it on SNES, since the music's a bit different between the versions.
