How to Fail - Terrible Programming Edition

Sometimes failure in a game does not come from gameplay issues, glitches, or poor play... sometimes it's due to incredibly terrible programming decisions that make you glad the game can't easily be played anymore.

This is why I'm glad that I grew up with a nerd for a dad. W9x took 10 minutes to boot up, sure, but that was because it was loading and scanning with 5-6 different security programs covering everything from adware (remember those?) and security holes, including emails and the entire frigging drive. This sort of game was why.

Shattered Light just has no user credential security whatsoever. As far as I can tell it's not really a vector for any malicious software but that's probably just because it was a flop, so there wasn't really any reason to use it for such purposes. Adware is such a pain. Not *technically* malicious software but it was incredibly annoying and often frustrating to remove. It's still technically a thing, but is pretty rare these days.

@@DWTerminator Oh at the time it would've been a pretty huge hole for malicious software! Anything that harvested your hard drive data would've gone straight for it!

You know, there is something ominous about artistic works lost to time... some of the games i really enjoyed as a kid are so obscure that they are unlisted on the internet idk. Ozymandias i guess

Saw the font and though it was Grimoire... When you have to use Windows98 machine - we're in for a real treat.

I haven't quite figured out a recording solution for Grimoire yet, given how much of a "particularly janky Windows 9x game despite being released in 2017" it is. As for the Win98 VM, I've actually used it several times on the channel already since it's arguably the best method I have to play 16-bit Windows games. The DW Plays videos covering the 3D Ultra Pinball games, 3D Ultra Minigolf, Yoda Stories, and Battle Beast all required me to use it, as did the "Monday Medley" stream I did on the 29th where I was messing around with Mordor: The Depths of Dejenol.

Bungie discovered that bug in Myth 2 Soulblighter! Luckily they got a patch out fairly quickly.
