When your dealing with death metal you can’t expect it to have positive messages. It’s an aggressive style of music that is supposed to be harsh. That is the object. So I do agree with Trey. Getting mad about the aggressiveness of this music would be like getting mad that Adele sings about love, Adele sings about love because it fits the music. It matches the mood of the music.

I mean, I'm not a huge fan of gore or anything (not offensive but can get boring), but when I try to explain metal to friends and family -its like talking to a brick wall- they ask what I like about metal, metal in general. I suppose it comes down to aggression, and part of that aggression is that you have people speaking whats truly on their mind, what they are truly passionate about, regardless of who it offends. You have some songs which can go against the grain and express really unpopular or offensive positions, but they don't care. Thats where metal gets its aggression, its appeal. Because it is breaking the rules. It is offensive. And the bands know it but thats the great part - they don't have to care.

The extreme metal scene definitely isn't the place for crybabies. If the scene changed to better suit these people, it would cease to be extreme metal. All the fans who make this scene what it is would abandon it because the scene abandoned them in favor of people who probably don't even listen to metal. I don't like football, but you don't see me bitching about how it needs to change to cater more to my sensibilities because I understand that it just isn't for me. Everyone is offended by something and everyone gets triggered from time to time, but insisting that everyone and everything needs to change so that you don't get offended anymore is completely retarded. Learning to deal with shit that offends you is part of growing up, and sheltering people from/censoring material that some may find "problematic" isn't helping anyone. Metal is not music for the masses. It is a very precise extract from genres like classical music, rock (and blues as well), sounds of nature (atmosphere, animals, water) as well. Metal is related to "agressive and brutal and sad" subjects like war, illnesses, pollution, mind control (religious and political propaganda), controversy, loss and personal tragedy. Metal is not about bitches, cars, money and clothes... well there was a genre in metal called glam that portrait those subjects in their lyrics and that was a shame, because the music behind it was very good (funk-rock, virtuoso related).
