The point is these men were young at one point and did heinous acts. I'm sure their victim's would've liked to grow old...

One thing that occurs to me is "release them to what"? Nobody is going to want to take care of most of them.

Imagine some of these guys being In there since the late 1940s-50s imagine how it’d feel to get out to literally see an entire different world

Ironically some of these elderly prisoners would be better taken care of in prison than on the outside.

My empathy for these inmates is the same they felt for their victims!

No matter how badass you are in life, old age will get you!

Everybody is against long prison sentences until they hear the crimes

They are getting 3 meals a day, a roof over their head and free medical care. Many children in America don’t even get that.

Getting old in jail is a scary situation but being murdered and or sexually assaulted as well being robbed is another so it’s hard for me to feel anything for these imates

Watching the documentary, I feel as if they are expecting us to feel some sort of sympathy for these prisoners. This is what an actual life sentence looks like. These are people paying the price for the heinous crimes they’ve committed.

I only feel sorry for the innocent people who have gone into prison for a crime they did not commit.

I’m a trial clerk. I’ll never forget when I saw a 70 year old man sentenced to 20 years for a DUI murder. Other than this offense he had lived a great life , served in the military, took care of parents and family, served his community by volunteering for various charities. His only offense was a DUI when he was like 21. Now, he’ll die in there. No one wins. Really sad.

I shared a room in the hospital with a elderly prisoner that was in this category who had a stroke. I was in an accident and transported to a local hospital. I ended up in a room with a guy, chained up in the bed who had a prison guard with him, he had very slurred and semi-coherent speech, and it was obvious that he was invalent. He was unable to walk, they had to bathe him in the bed. Later when he was discharged, two other guards came in and they strip-searched him (spread your cheeks and all), apparently rolling him around on the bed, they searched his diaper. All behind the curtain for me, which I appreciated. You can tell the guards were just following a transfer procedure by rote, just doing their job. I only saw him for a second when they wheeled him out, this 90lb scrawny, skeleton looking guy. It was a very strange experience. I don't know I have mixed feelings about it all. The guy probably did something really terrible for all I know.

This video should be shown in elementary through high schools to show exactly the result of criminal activity when a person is young.

A friend of mine was around 80 when he was sentenced to prison. If he did what he was convicted of, and he was guilty of at least some of it, he deserved every day he did there, regardless of his age. He died a year or two after he was released.

Something to keep in mind - these elderly, medically dependent inmates will not be received into a nursing home. For liability sake, nursing homes do not accept residents who have a felony conviction. So where are they going to go - especially those who do not have family or anyone to care for them?

I am a nurse and I worked at a state owned hospital for 13 years. When an inmate needed to be in the hospital, they came to my facility. We had a fully locked prison ward, but when an inmate needed ICU or speciality care like chemo, neuro, cardiac, or specialty nursing, they would be transferred and would have 1 or 2 guards with them at all times when off the prison ward. In the ICU, many times I took care of these patients who were in comas and on life support and yet they had to have a guard at the bedside and be shackled to the bed. Out of the ICU, I took care of many inmates who were alert and awake, and I would interact with them. It was against policy for nurses to know what the inmates were convicted of, but sometimes the guards would tell a nurse if they asked. I didnt want to know, and I didnt care. To me, that person was my patient. As long as they treated me with respect, I would give them the high quality nursing care I was trained to give. Now if they were disrespectful, that didnt mean I would give them substandard care, but I would not be likely to sneak into the kitchens at 2 am to get them some extra pudding, or get them a soda instead of water if they were thirsty. What surprised me was how polite, kind, and grateful the inmates were when I took care of them. To get a treat of pudding or ice cream at 2am was just not something they were used to. I cared for them without judgement, without duress, and with their dignity and comfort in mind. They would always say thank you to me. They never got mad at me, even if what I was doing hurt or I had to say no to a request because it was against medical orders. I had them tell me time and time again that they were not used to being treated like a human being instead of a number. Sometimes they cried with me, and some of them died because it was their time. They were not allowed visitors, and for several of my inmates, I was the person who was with them when they died because there was no one else. I understand both sides of this argument, but I just wanted to share my point of view and story. Thank you.

No sympathy for them whatsoever. They knew what they was doing and they took someone's family member away from them. I can't understand why these people are even allowed to keep on breathing. An eye for an eye.

Lots of times when victims give their impact statements, they say they want the person that hurt them to "rot in jail," or "die in jail." That's what's happening. Sure, you see these old guys and it's easy to feel sorry for them. Then you realize they chopped someone up in pieces, or killed a kid or something awful, and it gets harder to feel sorry. Maybe if they didn't hurt anyone when they committed their crime, I could see letting them out when they're old and sick. But, if they murdered someone, that changes things. After all, their victim didn't even have the chance to grow old.

You commit the crime you gotta do the time, regardless of how old and frail you get in the end . . That is what Justice looks like coldhearted and mean just like their victims felt about them.

If they are released because of their age, where would they go? We’d still have to pay for their care. A sad situation all around.

Imagine being in your early 20s and being sent to prison for maybe 50 or 60 years and then you get released when you’re 70 or 80 years old. Could you even adjust to the outside world?! For some people, it would be too much to handle at that age!!

It cost $70,000 to Loco them up a year but only give old people who are free 22k a year to live on ? That’s what’s wrong with America. Greed and carelessness

It’s very true what Red said to Andy Dufresne in Shawshank redemption when he said “inmates, at first, hate the walls that block them from the outside world. After a while they get used to them and when enough time passes, its gets so they depend on them, to keep them safe!”

Waiting to die in prison after committing heinous crimes is a fate worse than death. Living your entire life in a cage, with no family, no hope of ever getting out is terrifying. Death needs to come slow for these people, through natural causes. The death penalty is the easy way out in my opinion, plus innocent people have been executed which is a huge miscarriage of justice.

Their victims deserved "compassion, dignity and respect" too! Think about that for a minute. Growing old doesn't make them less guilty of the crime! 😖

Very hard for me to feel sorry about a murderer locked up for life. You growing older doesn't magically change the past or the severity of your action. You're not just locked up because you are a threat but also proportionate to what you did.

TBH, they deserve their sentence. Also, how would they live in the real world? They are what is called institutionalized. People who are paroled and still young enough to work can’t seem to make it. As was said by others, their victims and their families received life sentences. Justice must be served and at least they are taken care of and receive medical care however lacking. It’s still better than their victims received and they knew what they were doing and the risks.

The elderly "uncle" who molested me was far from helpless. I've been married 19years now to a wonderful man and I still wake up screaming in the night.

Coming from a guy who’s done a few years and have spoken to many elderly people in lockup you shouldn’t judge them. Many of them have no family no source of income no medical care, I talked to many older people in there who committed crimes just so they could be fed and cared for. Nonviolent crimes that carry years are so common with these guys, it’s a damn shame we have people committing crimes at that age to just survive.

When you kill someone and your sentence is life, guess what. You're gonna get old in prison until you die. That's what the sentence means.

Life without parole should mean just that..just because a person is a particular age, they are still alive and should be behind bars until THEIR life is over...

My dad was in jail for attempted murder. He got 25 years. He was due to be released in 2017 and actually died 59 days before he was suppose to get out. He apparently had lung cancer and didn’t even know. He was having problems and was suppose to be getting further medical tests. He ended up choking on his own blood at 4:23 am and pronounced dead at 5:03 am. I hope he asked for forgiveness and found G*d! As for my mom she has suffered the most physical pain! Alot of health problems and constantly having more by the day. My siblings and I have suffered the mental and emotional pain. I just hope to be released from all the emotional and mental pain from this.

These inmates are probably getting better care treatment than if they were outside.

The 100 yo man, murdered 2 women when he was in his 80s, he's done a little over 20 years, no, he's not served a lifetime. At a 100 yrs old, he'll be fine where he is, and justice is served.

70k-100k a year per individual to keep them alive and honor their LIFELONG punishment is insane. That price is being paid by society (US) even though we don’t know any of these people or their crimes they’re expenses are coming out of our income in the form of taxation. I say make em serve 40-50 MAX and release em. Life isn’t even the same after 10 years I can only imagine 60+

Imagine this man who was imprisoned in 1947 and he would be released. The new world he would see would probably blow his mind. I don't think they should be released but to see reaction of someone who wasn't outside since 70 years ago would be really interesting.

The law has no age restriction, and life without parole means just that.

Imagine that there’s just so many elderly everywhere including boomers and not enough younger people to care for all of these people. The repercussions of their parents having 8-15 children in families years ago. 🤦‍♀️ These people still hurt someone they might be old now but I don’t feel sorry for them. Regardless of the condition their in now you killed someone where was their human rights.

"Elderly offenders cost the state two to three times more than a regular inmate" If they're released, the state will still have to pay for them, they're too old to work, they most likely have no savings/retirement. Releasing them will only spread the burden across several different government accounts.
