My FXRP was a great bike but it was an extreme high mileage bike that lived thru, and I mean deeply, thru Hurricane Katrina. I rebuilt it with parts available at the time. The aftermarket for FXRs wasn't as strong as it is today. (In fact there's a very popular windshield company that responded to me about making a FXRP windshield at the time that referred to FXRs as "old junk that no one wanted when they were new" that keeps me from ever using their product.) For a basically stock Evo it run great and it was extremely comfortable with the higher floorboards and fairing. I also wasn't motovlogging then so wind noise and minor buffeting wasn't an issue. My Dyna Street Bob was a better bike if we're being honest and not nostalgic. I only got tail wag at high speeds in giant sweepers and I'm sure I could have cured it but 100mph plus in a big sweeper, (in West bygawd Virginia) with a basically stock set up, you'll have that. I probably should have added a FXRP fairing and floorboards but my mind eye was set on extreme distances, giant seats and huge aftermarket auxillary lights like all the touring bikes I saw in New Mexico had. I didn't want to ugly up a beautiful Dyna. If I had it to do over, I'd probably start with a FXR frame, chase the welds, new mounts, 103 TwinCam with a six speed, built 49mm forks and Ohlins shocks. FXRP fairings and bags. Dream build with money not an option.

That right there is the winning formula - Only thing I wouldn't understand is why go up to 49mm forks?
@theoldmanflynchmotovlog4846
@theoldmanflynchmotovlog4846 Жыл бұрын
@FXDLS Brooklyn 49mm forks don't flex like smaller forks. It's extremely noticed in the Bagger models between the 41mm and the 49mm, Geezer Glide sells a kit to retrofit older Baggers with modern 49mm forks because it improves the handling dramatically.

Love the content bro. Another thing to add with early and late year dyna, which I could have missed you saying, is the 5 speed and 6 speed. I have a 05 FXDL and sure do wish I had an extra gear when on the highway

90 FXRS-SP. I’ve got Suspension/motor/6 speed od. FXDX t sport fairing on it. SDC pro series seat. I love it for everything. Streets/highway/aggressive it excels in all areas. I have a FXDLS as well and I love the FXR way more. More fun. Easier to throw around. More fun to just rip down the highway. Hard to speak on a long highway mile day. Haven’t really done more than 60 miles or so straight but I don’t doubt I’d have any issues doing a couple hundred straight on it

I'll say this. Having ridden the same FXR for the last 27 years the only thing I would change on it is replacing the 5 speed with a 6 speed! I've ridden that bike from New York to Myrtle beach and back and it was fine. That's because it was the only bike I had! I have never ridden a Dyna for a long distance but people I have spoken with said that preferred the FXR. Now the later Dynas with the 103 motors and 6 speeds may be a game changer.
@FXDLSBrooklyn

Having the miles on both, I could confidently say that it would be a blast to ride the FXR cross country if you have it set up properly

FXR for sure. I love dynas, but your gonna spend a small fortune trying to replicate the handling of an FXR on your Dyna. And it just doesn't stop. Inverted forks, upgraded motor mounts, new rear shocks, engine stabilizer, steering stabilizer, upgraded swing arm etc....those are not cheap upgrades and for that money, you can find a stock FXR, throw on some bars, exhaust and let it rip. Just my 2....I still love dynas though, 02 FXDX is probably the best Dyna Harley has made.

Very, very good point - The inverted front end is where I drew the line on my performance Dyna build, which is also the factor that had me interested in the new ST to begin with
@jamo1026
@jamo1026 Жыл бұрын
@@FXDLSBrooklyn yup I've thought of an inverted front end but it's too much work, I'll have to mess with the new triple tree to fit the og t sport fairing, and I'll lose the 39mm front end. Mines still only a cammed up head ported 88ci like yours if thought of going to a high compression 95 or higher, but if I'm chasing power I'd be better off just buying a m8.

@@FXDLSBrooklyn and if ya want more power, instead of buying a newer bike, if ya love the one with the Evo on it, just buy an aftermarket Evo big twin, like Ultima, Or S&S. Bigger cubes, more power and torque. Obviously more money, but about the same as a used twin cam Dyna price. But you’d have way more power.

I have a 2015 fxdl. Deffinetly wobbles. Even with sputh stabalizers and after Market suspension. Tightened up steering neck. Not as bad as it did stock. Honestly I think part of is spoked rims should have never gone on the dyna modles. For the sane reason they are great off road.. the ability to flex and deflect.. they only enhanced the rubber mounted swing arm issue on dyna modles. But ain't got funds for that.

@Jamo oh I don't mind hearing it.. 100% agree. I just can't afford it lol. And I'm just gonna go road king at that point.. i will say my bike wobbles less 2 up.. I'm 220 she's about a 130. I've played with fork hight to account for geometry. Higher more stable lower better turn in. Vise versa. Plsyed with preload and sag. Doesn't make as big of a difference as the extra wieght .. just Dam dynas. But I occasionally talk to people who swear there's never wobble. And while in a straight line I don't barely ever get um regardless of tripple digits. But start throwing it into turns 90+ and thier it is
