Joan Collins is just phenomenal as Alexis and the way she always uses physicality to reinforce emotion and express character is incredible. Look how she greets Steven, by frenziedly stroking his face and hair as if she's about to devour him. And after Krystle hands him his baby she asserts her maternal superiority by firmly clasping his shoulder. Even when wracked by vulnerability and relief Alexis must still smother and possess, especially if it's her favourite child. Brilliant.

Not only did Steven get new face but he also got a new persona. Al Corley's Steven was sensitive, tormented, tortured soul. Jack Coleman's Steven was a robot.

I agree. The first Steven had depth, insecurity and something haunting and a bit unique. Jack Coleman was a cookie cutter daytime soap opera actor and brought all two dimensions of that to the role. He was never EVER convincing as a gay man.

@@oneuglygeek9516 Yes I agree wholeheartedly!!! I actually liked Jack Coleman better, but both actors tell the story of Steven Carrington superbly! As far as Fallon goes, I agree. I thought it was not a good recast, but after quite a while, I got used to Emma Samms, and enjoyed her as Fallon, and saw both actresses as telling the complete story of Fallon Carrington Colby. Meaning Pamela Sue portrayed Fallon as the immature bratty spoiled young adult, and Emma portrayed Fallon as the character matured and grew up into a woman. Then the recasts of Adam and Amanda are just HORRID, AWFUL, and TERRIBLE!!! I just try to forget Adam and Amanda were recasted at all.......

i get the impression that pamela sue martin's fallon had better chemistry with al corley's steven, does anyone else see this? i guess it's because there wasn't much interaction between PSM's Fallon and Jack Coleman's Steven just before PSM left the series, i just felt the vibe was much different and it wasn't that close

wholelotanothin1 incorrect. He left because of bad writing for the character. First he’s gay, but then had to get married, Dynasty was afraid to have a totally gay character, not Al Corley.

Dynasty made very poor re-casting choices(Fallon, Amanda, and Adam, in the reunion movie) However I think they did ok with the Stephen recast.

I’m curious to know if they filmed in the house or on a set. I would a assume it was a set but the same house was used in Heaven Can Wait & the interior was the exactly the same.

This was the mansion where they filed the pilot. When the show went to series they built a set, but it burned and they had to return to the mansion until the set could be rebuilt. When they filed the reunion movie the set had been long struck, so against they used the mansion.

Sammy Jo was perfectly willing to grant a divorce and relinquish custody after this episode to continue her pursuit of being a Hustler centerfold (oops, i meant "modeling")...until she thought that Steven went back to his "curious New York ways" (wink, wink) and decided to pretend that she wanted custody of the baby she tried sell after all.

Jack Coleman did a great job playing the role of Steven Carrington. A pity he didn't stay until the show ended but he probably had other commitments. He still looks good to this day

He was actually written out after Season 8 was finished filming without Jack Coleman being told until it was done. He was extremely pissed off with the producers for it, and that's why he refused to do the reunion three years later, leading them to have to get Al Corley back (explain that plastic surgery away!).

The original didn’t like how they wrote for Steven, so he left after season 2. They didn’t really have a big audience until season 3, so the 2nd Steven, is the only one many know.

Jared Linden at the time this aired, it probably wasn’t cliche. Also with the Steven recast, the series was still in its early seasons and had stories. By the time the other recasts happened, the show was sort of running its course.

Linda Evans was 38yrs when she was cast for the Krystal part in '81. This episode is in the 3rd season so Linda would have been 41yrs. Krystal was magnificent coming down the stairs considering she and Blake were about to complete the adoption of little Danny that Sammy Jo had agreed to.

Agree - what they SHOUL have one was have a version featuring the next generation BUT also inclue as much of the original cast as possible. I trie watching a couple of eps of the CW reboot - & fell asleep - something that NEVER took place when watching the original one.

Joan is not wearing a wig and looks better for it!! Blake sounded and looked like he had the flu .. he was also a great distance away from the cast so he couldn’t spread his germs !!
