Great videos in general, thank you for all the effort and heart you are putting in! I‘m picking up my 03 with less than 30k km on saturday and your videos truly helped hyping me up! Third gear seems to be singing a bit much but I already checked out your series 2 episode with the gearbox-tutorial so I‘m nothing but ready to enjoy this sweet engine 👍🏻

What is really nice is the torque in the midrange. 80 lb ft is it? from about 6k to almost 8k RPM? That is sweet. Put in a katana 1100 exhaust cam and you should extend that torque curve a little bit. Get the head flowed, engine bored, high comp JE forged pistons, degreed cams... should be able to get another 20HP and at least another 5 lb-ft of torque. I dynoed mine at 135HP after doing all that. And the jetting was crap. Never did get it straightened out before flipping it over a car I t-boned.

Sorry to hear about the crash, hope you are ok. That is roughly the spec I’ve been thinking about doing to the engine, but I think I’ll get the turbo bike finished first 😎

@@Classicmotorbikes Crash happened 15 years ago, i'm fine. I got another Bandit shortly after to replace the wrecked one. That is the Bandit sitting outside that I might rebuild like you are doing. I also recently bought the GSXS1000, Same philosophy as the Bandit (10 year old sportbike engine in a less aggressive package) with traction control and ABS. Love the GSXS, now have time to work on the Bandit if motivated. Love the vids.

Great video Ian. Mine '99 1200 also pops a lot when I come off the throttle. I thought that was life with this exhaust. Wish I could have caught what he said about how to get rid of it.

Mark’s tip is to turn the mixture screw out 3 turn to stop the popping and banging

I sort of like the popping, it's a nice, angry sound that comes on after pulling into the high RPMs.

Bsd are my local aswell but really 120 at the back wheel? So what on earth is it at the crank... +20%?? Standard jetting too.. im not a hater just blown away if its true! Or is that crank power.

I was a bit blown away when it made 120bhp, I think Mark was a bit shocked as well. I've always known the mk1 Bandit 1200s to run too rich as standard so with the 4-2-1 exhaust it must just be right as the main reason for getting it on the dyno was to make sure the AFR was correct as I don't want to damage the engine running it too lean. I think people get to caught up on BHP numbers its all about the AFR.

@@Classicmotorbikes well you're quite right there.. be interesting to see as im going to these guys end of october once my turbo is fitted too. Im hoping for 190 at the back wheel, be Interesting to compare notes!. How far are you along with yours..? My welding is all done, new clutch and 3 clutch springs in. its just finding a spare day to get my bike on the bench to fit it all... Need to soak my head studs for a few days as im no fan of getting seized bolts out,..
