In this video we test the Cobb Tuning stage 2 package which includes their version of a stock airbox intake, charge pipe, top mount intercooler and an OTS (off the shelf) tune. We then load the PREracing OTS Stage 1 map on the car to compare power numbers as well as see what further gains can be had by custom tuning. In this video I briefly discuss the Subaru DAM (dynamic advance multiplier) system as its used in the DIT engines and why you can't necessarily trust that your car is "knock free"

In this video really the most important feature is people saying that the charge pipe picks up a ton of power but as you can see it really doesn't. I'd venture to guess the factory one is actually better because it's not going to transfer heat. I think ETS is sending us one to test on our car so I'll do it on the dyno back-to-back comparison. Have a bunch of Perrin parts coming too

The discussion on DAM was great. I was essentially told the same by my tuner regarding the old EJs as far as what it is and is not, in that it's the car learning and protecting itself as it was designed.

@@WT4T I’m no expert but I was reading somewhere that the FA24 is a beefed up FA20 so if it can hold 400+ whp reliably I’d say that’s pretty good

Thank you! I know a famous KZfaq tuner that does relax the knock sensitivity settings and he tends to blow up so many cars for other KZfaqrs. Now I have to worry about a special KZfaqr building an amazing 6 cylinder sti that’s about to be tuned that it also doesn’t blow up again 😢

I did the math on all of the current available intercoolers on the market and put it into an excel spreadsheet. The Perrin TMIC is hands down the best bang for the buck, and from an engineering perspective, seems to have the best design as well. Strangely, the Perrin also leads the FMIC bracket on cost per cubic inch of intercooler. based off of what I have investigated so far, I feel like an ETS or RAE intake with a Perrin TMIC is the most efficient and effective modifications to purchase.

Funny you say that. I just got the Perrin TMIC in last night with Perrin charge pipe. Already have ETS intake with DMann OTS. Gonna throw in Radium dual catch can kit as well. E-tune this weekend and CANNOT WAIT to see the gains. To say the least this comment boosted my moral immensely based off my purchase decisions😂

@@WT4T I am actually on the same page with you about Perrin parts. Just about the only thing I found myself liking was their license plate bracket. My data is purely a metric of cubic inches vs price, but that being said, when you see their TMIC, you will know why I believe it will be the best performer of the TMIC options available today. They redid the inlet area to bypass the OEM fitting making for a more direct and less restrictive intercooler interface. I still wouldn't get much else from them, but I am 100% convinced you will be sold on their TMIC when you run it. Looking forward to that video.
@WT4T

Im not sold on any tmic. Literally zero reason to run one on these cars. Fmic will be far superior in every way. 🤷‍♂️
@716Flat4
@716Flat4 9 ай бұрын
@@WT4T I disagree, I think most people with an FMIC have ZERO use for one. They are not tuned for enough power and do not drive hard enough to actually justify the part over others. there is only a small percent of modified cars hitting tracks, they have justification. People who drive like tickets are rewards and live in hot climates may have some justification...anyone else is wasting their money...well, not wasting, there is a performance increase for an FMIC over TMIC like you said...but it is a scale of diminishing returns when you factor comparative cost to performance metrics, and the vast majority of FMIC owners would have been better off saving half that investment and putting into other things. In the reality of how these cars are being used, the primary driving factor for an FMIC is ego, not performance. A want...not a need.

I agree that DAM drops are not the end of the world. However, the sensors are FAR too sensitive and on the stock and OTS tunes it pulls way too much timing. With some sensitivity tuning, you can minimize ghost knock.
@WT4T
@WT4T 9 ай бұрын
Absolutely, I didn't say not to modify sensativity, just be careful that the reason your the doesn't see knock is because its eyes are closed.

My dam will stay at 1 and then once it drops below once the knocks start coming. Is there any chance it mistakenly drops, and then starts creating knocks because it’s pulling timing? It’ll be fine 90% of the time but all it takes is that one time on the highway I’ll give it gas to pas ina high gear and it’s all downhill from there. Also I feel like I can barely cruise in 6th gear 85+ even without it starting to knock. I usually just stay in 5th and I have no issues.

whats flat foot shifting?
@WT4T
@WT4T 8 ай бұрын
FFS is shifting without lifting your foot off the accelerator pedal in order to keep the turbo from dropping out of boost. Some vehicles have the ability to activate a secondary rev limiter and reduce timing while you're doing this to reduce stress on the drivetrain.

I should had been more specific on my comment. I mean when companies sell different stage packages. Not your tuning stages. Tuning stages makes a lot more sense when you're offering OTS tunes based off of mods. Those are specific to what you're tuning for. But companies selling stage packages is specific to them and not universal to everyone.
