Here is the fantastic Dyson Digital Slim Mk2 DC44 Animal. (DC45 in Canada and Continental Europe)
Here I show how to check for blockages and then show you how I clear a serious Blockage in the main Motorised head. This process took me circa 20 minutes in total. I have cut this down and tried to keep all the important footage. Please feel free to ask me any questions about this and what I did.
The DC44 is a cordless vacuum cleaner. It is powered by a 'fade-free nickel manganese cobalt' battery that delivers a 20 minute run time. There are two powered motor brush floor ends. Capable of handling carpets & hard floors. This cleaner is far more than for use as a quick clean around the kitchen. This vacuum cleaner could become your principle cleaner.
Within the first 24 hours of owning this I had completely cleaned the whole house. Yes. It took two charges. But the house is cleaner than ever. (This will actually be replacing an older Dyson model for us!) I am very impressed with just how good the motorised brushes are.It is easy to use and control, so manoeuvrable that getting into small and 'hard to reach' areas so effortless and easy. I have now cleaned under everything!
This gets my wholehearted recommendation.

Thank you! I have just managed to fix the blocked head on my DC44. I didn't have a wire coat hanger, so used scissors, a sharp wooden skewer and a table knife to clear the solidly compacted blockage. Most of it got pushed through to the brush area so I was able to tease it out from there. It took me over half an hour, but I'm so chuffed with myself, and grateful to have found your video!

Bought a DC45 yesterday but took no less than 15 minutes for the brush head to trap some weird obstacle and make a painful slapping noise. You video was exactly what I was looking for and some weird plastic fell out as soon as pulled the brushhead out. Watched the rest of your video anyway even though there was nothing to clear. Very clear and informative, now I know how to take care of the baby in the coming years. Thanks dude.

So helpful. I could see no visible blockages and the motor sounded fine. However, I kept smelling a wet dog smell even after cleaning the filter and thinking all blockages were cleared. I went ahead and took the brush bar out like you suggested and could not believe what I pulled out of that little rectangular area. Was really amazing. And looking at it from the other end it looked completely clean. I am thrilled. Smells and works like new! Careful with the hanger though. I did get one stuck. Luckily got it out. I found a skinny bottle brush to be easier and less stressful.

thanx for the tutorial.... unfortunatly after ransacking the house to find a metal coat hanger i discovered all we had was wood ones!!!! So i got inventive with an extra long kirby grip (I know... a hair grip to fix a hoover!!!) and a small pair of clamps.... the blockage was right behind the opening in the front of the head (the fiddliest place!!!!) But thanks to your tutorial i now have a working hoover.... a must with a large furry dog!!!!! :D

FYI the inlet flap is sprung loaded to stop dust falling out when the unit is off and inverted. To free it off strip the unit down and soak and slosh the part with the flap in hot water. The flap will then rest in the position of blocking the inlet pipe. Happy to help.

Purely because I make a right mess in my car and use the Animal head in my car. It is perfect and being smaller is more manoeuvrable and I can get it under seats etc far easier than the bigger 'carpet' powered head. (+We always buy the "Animal" versions - both love the purple!!)

Thank you. I thought my Dyson was broken. A good clear produced a lot of gunk but it is now working as well as it ever did. Any suggestions on how to clean the bristles? They keep getting hair wrapped round them and are difficult to clear.

Thanks Tom that was really useful. I have inherited a DC44 but also seem to have no power in the floor brush. Can one take it apart as I notice you need a special head screwdriver -- sorry dont know the technical term.

Does either of the powered floor brushes work? just wondering if the issue is the power connections. note - they won’t spin IF there is too much resistance so it might be blocked or caught by long thread? but - to answer your question, I have not, nor plan to open up the heads. good luck!

very helpful video thank you! Would you rinse the tube with water?

I have never needed to personally. (You also have o be very careful not to wet the electric contacts that go through the tube and to make sure it is bone dry before re-use)

I found your video really useful to clear a blockage in the main head. However, I am having problems removing the filter to clean it. When I press the blue button marked filter down, I just cannot seem to separate the circular section away from the part with the throttle. Hope you can help. Thanks.

Wendy Goldswain I am glad this video helped. regarding removing the filter for washing and cleaning I also made a small video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nJ9yqtyTqbyXc6d3.htmloes that help ? or is it that your catch will not open to release and give you access to the filter area ? Try - pushing the unit together very hard and then whilst maintaining the closing pressure, press the release button and hold that pressed whilst you split the two halves..

I have had issues where there was blockage in the cyclone unit and when I call dyson they tell me not to put under water. I have looked at the unit and if it is removed from the power unit it is all plastic and the metal connectors should not be affected by a little water on them if you put in the sun after cleaning or let it dry for about a day before putting back together. When you unlock the collector bin to dump the bin there is a red lever that will allow you to remove the cyclone bin from the power head. You can remove the collector bin from the cyclone unit and I completely washed them both in water and there was a lot of dirt built up in the cyclone unit around the small holes and I was able to free them up. Just make sure that you don't put the unit back together until about a day to allow it to completely dry out and use a towel to help also. I even used the power head to help dry the cyclone unit with the air it produces when you press the power button. Just don't put the power head under water or you are the dumbest person that I know.

Could you show how to remove the clear canister so it can be cleaned?
@TomStrong
@TomStrong 8 жыл бұрын
The clear canister can not be removed from the cyclone section. However, if you remove the tube and motor, apart from the wires conncting through the unit, you get left with 98% plastic amd rubber. That coukd probably stand a carefull amount ot rinsing out and then left to dry for some days before use...

Hi, I have a problem whereby the flap that opens and closes to allow dust to go into the canister has come out of its slot. This was partly my fault. The motor seemed to be pulsing when I was trying to use the vacuum and in order to stop this happening I realised that I had to free the flap by pushing it with my finger. The second time I did this the flap came out of its slot and it seems to be almost impossible to fit the flap back into its slot due to the very small opening in the grey nozzle (front) or from inside the canister. I need to remove the grey nozzle from the canister. There is a small screw on the inside of the nozzle and I think that there are a couple of catches on the sides that you can see through the plastic. However, afresh removing the screw the nozzle seems to be fixed to the canister. Can anyone help me to remove the nozzle from the canister please? Thanks
