E Bike Disasters and Triumphs is a look at ebike stories of both victory and defeat. I am going to start this off with my own worst disaster on two wheels as well as the triumph of building an ebike which was to transform my life. Going forward I would like to turn this into a regular
If you enjoy my stories and would like to share your own triumphs and disasters be read out in my Canadian tainted British accent please email them to John@highvoltagekits.com Feel free to use alternate names or handles the idea is to have a bit of fun not identify anyone on the internet. I lived in Ottawa for about 12 years and it is a paradise for anyone who love cycling, walking or roller skating. The city has many hundreds of kilometres of paved pathways that are wide and very well maintained. The Rideau Canal pathways is a very popular attraction all year round. Happy Holidays 🚴.....................

@@andrew-729 I was there in the 1990s - 2000, back then, Ottawa was in its prime years, economy was great and the city had amazing night life, now a days, it isn't as a good place to live, too many immigrants and homeless people that brought more crimes and not so much safe walking at night. Lots of friends there that I can visit on vocation. Happy Holidays

Cheers mate. That was pretty much my favourite route was down to the Lumieres bridge and back up and over the Champlain so a loop with the river both sides. Just beautiful mix of greenery with all historic buildings. Its a pretty big city for Canada but it never felt like it.

Wow reminds me my first long haul kit where i went to Levis on the south shore and crossed to Quebec take a picture with the Castel and come back to Montreal on the North shore in 39hrs. After that i tried the waterfront trail to Kingston via Ottawa and back to Montreal in 52hrs. It was amazing discovering the trails in Ontario.

I been spreading the word about you bro, I have mentioned you to a few E-bike people, As you is without doubt you is one of the most highly educated when it comes to DIY E-bikes, And the testing you do is an essential part of the DIY motors, Preferably the Mid Motors, lol, I refuse to install a Hub motor, Unless it is a 5000w QS, lol... I bought an electric monster scooter first but the police started giving me stress, The first 5 times the police didn't care it was questioning me about the scooter, It was when they come out, I actually said to the one copper the first time I was stopped it does about 25mph but I hardly do that as I am still getting used to it, The scooter had 4 lights on the front, I had body armor on and a helmet, With a Go Pro and the police was actually brilliant, But then one day I got stopped by a ginger copper who moaned, Told me to walk it, If he seen me on it again he was taking it off me, The same time an E-bike went passed so I said how come you ain't stopping him, The copper said that got pedals, So I was forced to do an E-bike, But I am not rich, I ain't got much money, Not to pay grands for the E-bikes, So I then discovered the Bafang BBSHD, But ended up getting the BBS02, Round my ways if you got a rapid E-bike and the young heads finds out, You might just become a target, I have even been told people drive round in a van, When they see an expensive bike they will pull you off it, It was mentioned because a friend said make sure you put a GPS on it, Also people are targeting the bike stands and waiting for the opportunity, It is so bad now we all seen the vids of people just taking the bikes while people film them, It is the reason I have not bought a motorbike, I live in a top floor flat, A bike outside would almost guarantee someone to try take the thing, I think we should be allowed to put booby traps on things, Imagine CS gas spraying in a theives face from the handle bars at the press of a button on an app, lol, I even mentioned to the local shops, Why don't you install a lock up for people bikes inside the store and just charge 50p, Within a year it will be earning money, One of the main reasons people don't take their expensive bikes shopping is because there is no safe place to store your expensive bikes, Car parks are free, And not everyone is able to get a car, Or even a license, I can't do my driving tests because of the Complex PTSD I suffer with, I even said to my local MP about putting mountain bike lock ups in shops under lock an key with security and just charge 50p, I would even pay a pound lol, Imagine how many families got bikes and would go shopping using their bikes during the summer for example, And yet they go on about Global warnings, The Weather is getting worse the older I get though or it feels that way, The seasons are going out of sync, But yeah after discovering the BBS02 I got it, Got a Carrera Hellcat Lmt Edition 29er and installed the motor after watching a few you tube vids, I am glad I did after reading the horror stories of people buying expensive E-bikes and them breaking to then have to send it back while stuck without a bike, When you can install a motor yourself, And also learn how to fix a bike lol, I used to take my bikes apart to put them back together as a kid, We never had phones when I was a kid, lol, Still though I would probably do the DIY install even if I could afford an expensive E-bike, There is something that when you do the bike yourself, The ride feels so much better and safer as you know the parts is installed and triple a cheque, And when you install the motor and look back at your handy work, It is a Damn I am bad ass feeling for a few mins, lol, I do want to do another Bafang build though, Possibly an enduro frame up, But I am struggling to pay bills let alone spend money on bike parts, Everything is double expensive right about now, The food prices is nuts, And when you is told by the Dr you got to eat healthy as you is at risk of sudden death from heart problems, I got a CT scan in Jan, Was cancelled 2 weeks ago because the CT scanner was broke, Great isn't it but the NHS is doing it's best with what they got I guess, But yeah I would be lost without my bike, Suffering with CPTSD public transport isn't ideal as it causes stress with heart problems isn't what I am looking for, So the E-bike is important to me, It is why I can't just lock it up outside a shop risking the stress of it getting stolen, Luckily the few shops near me lets me walk the bike around with me, After all the bike is no longer than a trolly people push in front of them there for taking more space than me with my bike next to me, I don't see the issue walking a bike around a shop with a basket on the handle bar, I am spending money in the place, And I am polite with a Go Pro on, Honestly if shops had an area where you can lock your beloved bike inside the shop like they got in the Netherlands and even Japan got an underground lock up for your bike, You just pay some money for it, But press a button and your bike comes to you, They got one for cars too, The UK is lagging badly when it comes to bikes, I seen a bike lane go for about 20 yards and it just leads onto the road, And the bike part next to the pavement is well dodgy with cars going past next to you, You got about half a meter between the pavement and cars, Daft Daft and even dafter, A bike lane do not need to be between a curb a bikes worst enemy and a car another bikes worst enemy, I refuse to risk my life with the way people drive, I always see people on their phones, I even seen someone texting while driving a moped next to a school crossing outside the schools gates, So yeah people don't look because the phone is more important, I see people driving with knees while texting, So yeah I just say on the pavements doing about 10-15 mph, I stick with the rules so to speak, I would be fuming if I was hit by someone on a bike so yeah I don't really go crazy on my E-bike, My average speed is 8mph so that say a lot, lol, The kids on the Sur-ron's pulling wheelies everywhere and causing mayhem on the roads so the police then think every other E-bike does the same thing, I was told the police was pulling uber delivery drivers on their E-bikes don't know what the results is but I feel because the young heads are doing crazy things on E-bikes for you tube views it is then having a knock on effect where every E-bike is going to be looked at sooner or later, I will never understand why people have to break laws to look good or just don't give a crap, But yeah I do feel E-bikes is the future of how people travel, With different motors and different ways to build E-bikes people will just get more creative, There will be a chopper E-bike buzz going on before we know it, There is even E-bikes with gears now, That Alien Rides E-Cross bike got gears, It looks nuts but then is the price, lol, It would be great though to get on old motor cross bike and install your own electric motor on it, As time goes by I feel more and more people will go down the DIY E-bike road as a bike is personal, So you doing the right thing sticking with the DIY E-bikes, Again when you put the E-bike together yourself, It do feel so much better to ride, lol, Call me weird but weird but it is what it is, It would be interesting to know how many people is doing the DIY E-bike road compared to E-bikes from companies who build the whole thing? Yeah I have mentioned you to a few people on you tube, As to me you is probably one of the better educated when it comes to E-bikes, You knows a thing or two, lol.... I might upload some E-bike vids myself soon, There is a nice few places I plan on going too, I am thinking of doing some history stuff with the Old Churches in my Area, Some stunning buildings with a lot of history, Wales got some amazing spots when you look hard enough..... Stay safe bro, And as always Happy E-biking, Peace.....

I can't match the goose story, but in 57 years of cycling I've been hit 5 times by cars and ran over/under a parked Nissan Cedric when I was 5 years old. However that doesn't count as it was on an old tricycle while attempting to break the neighbourhood downhill speed record.

I like this new window.. It was hard Anyway to beat this story... Of sastri or tales. Very nice. In my opinion, wisdom can always be drawn. As well as having fun. For the bird.... which turned 180 degrees. had chosen you,! Very simple. Not all things sometimes happen because they have to happen. Sometimes there's simply a reason. This story can have many visions. I mean it can be seen from many sides. In addition to having a nice laugh. I like stories, whether they are disasters or adventures, it's nice, very nice to know. That doesn't mean you should always laugh about mishaps that can happen. Yes I know. I'm too deep but that's who I am. Laughing too, just like every human being. Unfortunately, I'm used to seeing beyond not breaking down at the first barrier. I'm convinced that sometimes some things don't always happen for a reason. And whether good or bad, something will always bring us back.

Enjoyed your stories. I have some similarities to you! A brit, got sent to Coventry in the 80s to work for Austin Rover cars in Coventry for a few years. This lead me to emigrate to US equivalent, Detroit. Picked up my kids from daycare for many years using a Burley bicycle trailer. Recently got into e-bikes using a CYC Photon, as reviewed by you and others. Love the feel of the Photon. Although I have not ridden other motor kits, I had to choose by using reviews. I have not broken it yet, probably because I don’t use more than 750W. Be kind to the Photon in any upcoming vids, I think it is a compact motor with very good pedal feel.

Hey! Thanks for the comment. The first two cars we had were an orange Austin Allegro and a Blue Montego. Towards the end of its life me and my dad replaced the A in Austin with an R! That's quite the adventure to Detroit. The Photon has a great feeling torque sensor and there is a lot to like about it. I have enjoyed riding it. But its not perfect and I think that its only fair to the people that watch the channel that these aspects also get covered. There tends to be way way too much hype about things these days so I try to give a fair and balanced view. Have a great weekend! Cheers

@@HighVoltageKits Rustin A(ll)over, lol, that was them. I definitely enjoy your unbiased reviews of kit, you should absolutely tell it as it is. This is the only way buyers can judge between one product and another, as I don’t see how we can test ride everything ourselves. After seeing the fault you had with your Photon I am going to give my Photon more gas and see if it stands up while it is still in the warranty period. Loving your channel.
