Love what you're doing here, hearing the ugly, bad and transformative. My heart goes out to your last story. I work in a large ish institution and there's a cheery ex-army dude who used to always ride analog but then moved into the hills near me and quickly came to my realization... Sure he can ride analog but with 5 to 600 meters of climbing, e-bikes are more fun. Now that he has an e-bike I mentioned an e-bike event I had created to show more people what a game changer e-bikes are. His response surprised me, ... 'wow, great idea, lots of ex army hate being confined in vehicles due to PTSD and feeling like a sitting duck. They'd love an event like that.' Bikes and e-bikes allow their senses to scan for danger and they feel so much safer. A real eye opener for this greeny motivated ebiker.

My daily riding plans have to include the thought of my bike being stolen. Where I go depends on how many cameras are in the store parking lots, time of day and what day of the week. I am super lucky that I know the door guy at Walmart and he lets me put my bike inside the first set of doors where he can see it. I give him a 5 spot like a true door man deserves.

Three or four years ago, on a nice sunny summer day at my local off leash dog park which is technically a mixed use park that is frequented by hundreds of dogs weekly I witnessed a man riding his mountain bike through the park and the pack of dogs who collectively decided they weren't having any of his shenanigans. At the peak of excited activity the cyclist dismounted in an attempt to put his bike between himself and the dogs but he was severely outnumbered by approximately 12 - 15 dogs and his only defense was to spin in place, swinging his bike around in a circle to fend off the pack until the many owners came to leash and collect their dogs. Nobody was injured, it was humorous to see as a bystander but I can only imagine how terrifying it must have been for the cyclist.

I couldn’t buy what I needed, so I had to build what I needed. Besides, no one sells *electric mules* - not fast, but able to climb almost any hill, and can tow trailers - 12 - 17 miles an hour, and hours of riding on a charge… (big battery).

Try being chased by two Pitbulls, got passed them hot on my pedals lol they almost got cleaned up at a T junction when I took a hard right and they went straight into traffic 🤣 lucky for them they never got hit lol
