Ocean Ramsey and Juan Oliphant sit down with Greg Stone and share stories of their lifelong passion with sharks. Both Ocean and Juan live in Hawaii and run a company called One Ocean Diving, which focuses on studying the behavior of sharks and the effects of human contact with the species. As a marine biologist, Ocean studies shark behavior and body language to ultimately avoid negative perceptions and interactions with this species. The lively discussion touches on the unique qualities of sharks, overfishing, the diminishing of prey, and the negative image that sharks have which ultimately limits the compassion that is needed to protect and preserve these amazing animals. Ocean is a self-proclaimed ambassador for sharks and is an outspoken advocate for the survival and success of sharks in our oceans.

Join acclaimed oceanographer and conservationist Dr. Greg Stone on a journey of understanding and hope through our oceans with The Sea Has Many Voices podcast: theseahasmanyvoices.com/
Greg Stone has been an advocate for ocean conservation, sustainable industry, and marine research for decades. Spreading these ideas requires conversation and collaboration if we want environmental sustainability. He currently serves as Chief Ocean Scientist and board director for DeepGreen Resources, where he is responsible for finding sustainable ways to extract metal-rich nodules from the seafloor of the Clipperton Fracture Zone to provide minerals needed for the global transition to renewable energy.

Finally an Interviewer who is actually openly interested in actual shark information. An interviewer who listens respectfully and who doesn’t interrupt with questions of stupidity and bias every other second. Thank you. This one was great! #SpreedSharkLoveNotFear.

The person doing the interview is a Marine biologist with over 7,000 dives and led expeditions to Antarctica and all over. Also he’s the head of deep sea mining modules, in which it’s a much cleaner and non destructive way, that we can scope up precious metals on the bottom of the ocean floor, that has everythin g we need for our technology. Also it’s another way for us to shift away from fossil fuel usage, contaminating our ground water, destroying large sections of habitat, and dumping/creating toxic wastes from extracting one metal ore. Vs picking up large rocks on the bottom of the dark zone, that have all the metals we require in each module. The only bad thing that might affect the ocean eco system is that as of now, we don’t know if removing those rocks formed over millions of years, that are in a location that all countries have a spot t o purchase. If removing those metal rich rocks will impact the ocean eco system, because there are certain spore like species that won’t have anything to cling on, if they decide to move into the location that has been marked off, and studied about the ocean life on the sea floor. Right now the zone hasn’t shown any life forms in that area, who are dependent on the deep and dark sea floor to have rocks for all spore/other sea life. During the 10 year extensive study, they haven’t found any known sea life that are dependent the sea floor rocks for traveling, protection, etc. they had an occasional eel and shark show up to the bait stations, but other than that they didn’t find any sealife that needed those rocks in order to survive. However we don’t know if there will be any long term affects, until we see sea life start to populate the area that has none at this time. Honestly if we didn’t have Chernobyl(poor design) disaster, 3 mile incident, and Fukushima. We would have removed majority of the fossil fuels, and every place on earth would have power. We also would’ve discover nuclear fusion by now, and probably advanced much faster in the quantum technology field. However, after Chernobyls poor construction that led to the world disaster, it helped the fossil fuel companies push anti nuclear power propaganda. The amount of fracking those companies get away with, and the many states that have polluted water that can’t be filtered out, and clean enough for human consumption is crazy. How many towns and. large cities are considered uninhabitable, because of the coal that caught on fire and spread hundreds of miles under towns/cities. All of which leak out toxic smoke at random locations from pressure build up. Almost 60% of all 48 states have toxic tap water, that people bath in, and some drink because they can’t afford bottled water. If we don’t stop watching mainstream media that are reporting on news design to keep the population divided, and rarely report everything that our own government fails to fix, because the EPA and other organizations have no funds to help millions of Americans getting access to clean water, and not toxic cancer causing tap water. All because we can give billions to other countries, that will provide more income to those in government, who are heavily supported by large corporations, and always protect their interests, instead of the people’s interests. Then I’m afraid the propaganda put out by the mainstream media, and stupid reality tv shows that keep the population busy. We won’t ever be able to truly get things done, because many companies will spend money to fund conservation, knowing that it will fall on deaf ears, and keep activists off of their backs, while using the same activists to put pressure on the competitors.

"Humans can be territorial as well" i freaking love this human. Im from SE Alaska and basically grew up outside, so nature has always been so important to me, and i absolutely adore animals to the point where id much rather spend my time around any other animals over humans 😂 whenever someone says "theres too many (insert animal here)" i answer with "theres too many humans" so whenever someone else does that, i immediately like them and feel connected to them. I felt that way about Ocean long before i saw this interview though, i liked her from the first video i saw of her. She just seems like such a genuinely good person with such a big heart and an even bigger brain

And yet, she (not so much Juan, I guess he's not pretty enough) gets so much hate. I can't help but think most of the hate is driven by jealousy. I'm just now reply to a guy who's trying to defend a hit piece that Shark Bytes channel did against Ocean. The most ironic thing is how that channel dismisses Ocean as being just an influencer while he's trying to influence peoples' opinion of this woman and her work. Sadly ironic.

Ocean is right. The only people who watch this sort of thing are those people who are already interested in it in some way or another. At present 29,327 views, when I've seen videos of people cooking and they've had millions of views. So trying to get the message across to the people who matter, the people who it needs to reach, the people who abuse the shark, is really difficult but at the same time it needs to be done.

I have lived an outdoor life, Wyoming, and Montana is where I hang my hat and spent days and days packed out on horseback. It's breathtaking. When we would go out for a week or two, we were ALWAYS aware and prepared for the mountains permanent residents, in part brown[grizzlies] & black bears, mountain lion, wolves along with various smaller predators. Even on day trips, smart people don't go unarmed or without leaving a 'flight-plan' with someone. My point is the Seas & Oceans are just another form of 'wilderness' with more predators, but for the most part people jump in without a second thought. [And nearly naked] I love the beach & the warm sun but I don't go in the water. I don't think the odds would favor an attack, but it's not worth it to me as a happy terrestial, I prefer horses. I take measures to mitigate my risk in the bush, but it's still a risk, I accept that and my friends know if the worst happened don't harm the animal. I feel the same about sharks. If you choose to get wet then you MUST accept the risk and be clear that retaliatory measures are not to be taken. Great White's are magnificent animals and they need to be protected...humans are more of a threat to them than they are to us.

I have spent a lot of time with wild animals. Even so called dangerous animals, bears, Buffalo, and moose. I grew up on a farm and really got to know animals, its all about body language with animals. I have gained the trust of some wild animals to the point that I could touch them and feed them by hand.

I luv sharks Miss Ramsey, i think ur an awesome young woman thank u for being an earth Angel & protecting these important misunderstood creatures... I was born in 1975 so im as old as the first jaws movie that has influenced the minds ever since that film people have persecuted these enigmatic beings sadly to he film totally gave the wrong impression of these animals, ... But not the over kill of blue sharks for the Asian consumerism theyve decimated that species & others for their fun just to ge fin what an inhumane act to just take ine part &throw the rest, the Inuit nations & first nations use every part if any kill & they pray & say thanks for the animal yhey eat the heart to honour the creatures they catch they dont kill a moose & take its tongue & leave the rest... The way people treat all marine life is in humane in my eyes we dont think anything that lives in the water can have any feelings or emotion, but these people r wrong & need educating, but i dunno if u can a lot of folk are just to damn ignorant to care.. but at least the ones that do care actually have an effect & make a difference, well done & thank u to all the conservationist around the world ur my kind of people 🥰... P.S the rest of the world needs to step in and ban the sharks being killed for their fins, I don't care about anything else connected that will fail due to the ban that's unfortunate but this needs to be done for real Asia is lethal when it comes to the voracious appetite for exotic animals, u can't eat them into extinction Asia stop it it's disgusting & inhumane...
