@@derekhieb7458 maybe a halyard knot might work? love what she did with the other end though.. made me think a rope topping lift might be better. If she had a longer hank of rope she could use that block and make the topping lift adjustable from the bottom of the mast. By the way cool to see comments from qualified people Derek.

Happy New year and safe sailing. I just finally got my new kayak, but it's a fishing kayak. It has a side mounted transom for my 2.5 Suzuki outboard, and a single outrigger, that I actually designed. So this is my 1st season, fishing for fun. I more of a boater, and just catch and release. I got off topic. I wanted to say, I've watched all your repairs, your little enclosure your dad designed for you, forgot the name. Lol..We're in a different sport, but both on the beautiful ocean. I love how you attack thing's alone out at sea. You're a one of a kind woman to do all you do mostly alone. Be safe, and healthy. God bless..😜🙏🙏

Just a little quibble with the distinction between line and rope on boats. Rope is rope while it is coiled up with no specific purpose. When it is cut and spliced for a specific purpose it becomes a line and is given a name to describe it's purpose.

Well done. One word of caution. Never use a bowline for life safety without an overhand safety knot. I really like seeing you handle your own problems, that's the way I brought up my girls too.
@danielbuckner21673 жыл бұрын
Haha, the worrywart in me wanted to retie that with a longer tail just to back up that knot! bowlines are pretty stable though so for a topping lift it's probably more than fine.
@MrJhchrist3 жыл бұрын
@@danielbuckner2167 I think they meant the bowline on the bosson's chair which was holding her life. Agree that bowlines are reliable, but they have just never looked secure enough to me so I use the "yosemite tie off" on bowlines, or most often tie a figure eight and deal with it being slightly harder to untie. Without repeated shock loading fig 8's really aren't that hard to untie.
@danielbuckner21673 жыл бұрын
@@MrJhchrist it's funny you say that, the Yosemite is great but adds complication for some people. When I am teaching I will start with an 8 on a night because anyone can easily recognize it and know they are tied off correctly. It's also useful when caving as even novices can double check the rigging when everybody is tired and beat and the rigger can make mistakes.
