I also have a soundbar connected to my PC (a Sony). Although I did it a little different; I bought a audiocard from at least a decade back (was a real B. to find a new one though, because my other 2 or 3 modern ones didn't had those connections), and then I connected it to the soundbar and voila. It works. Although this little device above can be very helpful, with less Hussle then the solution I did, especially because my solution isn't available. Non of the shops sell a Creative Audiocard from more then a decade ago. Ebay if your lucky.

THANK YOU SO MUCH Steve for reviewing this product with a lot of detail. I am able to get Dolby Atmos now on my soundbar. I have Roku 4K Ultra which I had earlier connected to my 4K Projector (that has Dolby Audio) and from Projector to my Soundbar thru HDMI ARC port but was not to able to get Dolby Atmos. Recently purchased the OREI eARC 4K extractor after watching this video. I have now connected Roku to the OREI extractor (HDMI Input port ) and from the Extractor to Projector (HDMI TV Output port) and from extractor to soundbar earc port. I have chosen 7.1 output and now I can see the Dolby Atmos as sound in Netflix/Prime under Movie titles and also can see Dolby Atmos being displayed on my Soundbar as well. It sounds really great now with Atmos. Same way it works when I connect to my laptop as well I think this might become a competitor to HD Fury Arcana which is priced currently at $249/$299. Thanks again.

Is this still the latest box to buy or is there a newer box with atmos upmix support to mimmic height channels? (I've got panasonic soundslayer soundbar with no upfiring speakers but supports dolby atmos & dts:x) actually it doesn't have earc return only arc so I will never get uncompressed audio regardless with this type of box ? Also only you might know this, if a show only supports 5.1, is my atmos soundbar backwards compatible with 5.1 (dolby digital plus) or would it only play in stereo if the show doesn't support atmos and this box doesn't do the trick either ? Is dolby atmos = 7.1 ch and Dolby digital plus/surround/logic whatever you wanna call it = 5.1ch?

very nice and informative video. however you never mentioned or showed the back of your monitor if it has eARC or ARC function. I have and old TV that has ARC but only passes stereo from external sources eg apple tv, fire tv. I'm wondering if this will solve my issue. Thanks

Hi I got this Orei hda 931 wow what a surprise it worked perfect as I expected from projector hdmi to sonos beam earc and only issue am having is I need to switch on and off my sonos beam each time after I switch to amazon / sonos music back to projector viewing.. I felt it should automatically detect projector/Tv, am not sure if any settings should be updated any help would be appreciated . Am using benq projector.

Great video. Do you know if the video pass through will mess up the vrr/gsync of my LG C1 tv? I am trying to use my pc but it won’t pass 5.1 through hdmi to the tv, then optical to my older sound system. I hope to pc to extractor, hdmi to tv, and extractor optical to sound system for 5.1 sound. And still have gsync on tv.

Sorry I'm still a bit confused 😅 In my case, my TV has eARC but my AVR is only ARC. It works fine but internal TV OS only gets compressed surround sound and my PC directly connected to the TV (for 120hz and Freesync) only gets stereo. I'm looking into a similar adapter but I'm not sure if it will actually give me what I want. If I use this, would I get lossless surround from my TV OS and from my PC? I assume the HDMI IN in the adapter is optional?

I was so excited watching this video, but was crushed at the end to find out there is no simultaneous output for both 5.1 and analog outputs. Please, are there any extractors that do this??? Happy to explain my use case…

Just bought one for similar problem. Sony Bravia TV will shut off sound to eARC HDMI when headphone plugged in (for a "Zone B" for sound to another room while watching TV.) Can get headphone jack for zone B use AND fiber optic audio out from the Bravia, BUT FIBER OPTIC DOES NOT SUPPORT ATMOS. Ugh. No eARC HDMI splitters found on my searches split off analog and preserve eARC HDMI features. Heavy sigh. . . Only option is to shell out $2-3K for a multi-function receiver that has mastered the concept. OUCH. Will start to save my pennies.

You do great work. Question, I have a Dolby Atmos sound system that is connected to my arc tv. Being an arc tv with Dolby Digital output It doesn’t output Atmos, however if I were to plugged my Amazon Prime 4K Firestick into this device will I then get Atmos output? My sound system is the Sony HT-A9. Thank you in advance for the help.

Have you tried it on a Nvida shield pro 2019 to a receiver to watch Dolby vision mkv I have to directly plug it to the tv to use earc not tcl took that away to play lossless audio it only plays 5.1 atmos instead of 7.1

I noticed someone asked about adding extra HDMI ports, and you sent them to a link to an OREI switching box. After watching it, I noticed it said it will not pass through Dolby Atmos. This is something I definitely want to be able to do. Can you recommend another product that will achieve this? Thank you.

Correct me if I'm wrong here! I may in the future upgrade to a 4K projector, which supports HDMI 2.0 and eARC. The problem is my AV receiver is slightly old and only supports standard ARC and maxes out at HDMI 1.4. So routing the PS5 through the receiver, I'd only be able to get 1080p video, or if using the projector's HDMI ARC, I'd only be able to get 2 channel audio. 😕 If I'm not mistaken, this device should in theory allow me to get 4K video to the projector and LPCM 5.1 audio to the receiver?

Hey Steve, great review. This looks like a great audio extractor. I have one question for you, when plug in a 3.5mm wired headset, are you able to adjust the audio volume for in the headset? As I have one other brand now, works great, but I cannot put the volume higher or lower on my headset when using the 3.5mm port on the Audio Extractor. So want to know if this works the same or not. Can you test it and let me know?

Can this Audio extractor support the following on a TV that supports Arc: -1. Turn off and on with the TV (while retaining settings) -2. HDMI-CEC between sources hooked up to the extractor & the TV hooked up to the extractor (ie. control sources from the TV) -3. Extract/transcode classic Dolby Digital (AC3) audio from a Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3) audio stream & output that extracted classic Dolby Digital (AC3) audio over spdif I ask cause I have two extractor switches from different makers & one of them does #2 but not the others while the other extractor switch does #3 but not the others & i really want one that does atleast #2 & #3

Sir, have you try this with your PS5? Do you think this will force Netflix movies with Dolby Atmos to work on the PS5? So far the only streaming service that'll work is Disney+ on PS5 as far as pushing out Dolby Atmos to my soundbar. Here's my current setup, PS5 > Samsung Q800B soundbar > Optoma UHD38 Projector with HDMI 2.1.

Hey Steve i am new to your channel. I am in a personal dilemma. i do PC gaming, and I fall under the apple eco system. Using this audio extractor, I am assuming I can connect this extractor with an Apple TV and play audio to a pair of Apple Home Pods (through airplay) while using a monitor that doesn’t support hdmi arc/earc. I am trying to play audio from my PC, and I don’t want to invest in a tv. This may sound too specific and if this is too confusing please disregard.

Hello, I have a few questions about this product 1- My Samsung TV have earc, but dont support any DTS format signal over earc, but my arc reciever does, with this device can i have for example DTS Master audio if i watch a bluray On my xbox over earc? 2-with xbox its posible to use game Mode, 120 fps and vrr with this device, and also force 7.1 audio uncompressed? 3-this one is more specific, dolby digital and dolby atmos have audio delay On xbox, does this device eliminate it Thank you for your answers

I haven’t tested all of these scenarios. It is a 4k 60Hz adapter but eARC can support 2.1 cables for Audio. You can run your xbox into it and out to your audio receiver but it needs eARC. I recommend just trying it out because it’s hard to know the capabilities without trying it your self. Sorry to ask but does this also work with 3.1.2 soundbars? My tv hast ARC but can only provide Dolby Digital +. So with this device you don't need ARC or eARC on the TV to get Dolby Atmos, but can Dolby Atmos use the two upfiring speakers? I would like to buy this but not if it doesn't change anything.

It’s just a decoder for streaming devices plugged directly into it, your TVs just becomes a monitor. Extra speakers are determined by your audio system not your TV or this adapter

Hi, just to clarify: if I connect the extractor at one end with hdmi arc to my tv arc input/ output and at the other side to an old surround receiver with the OPTICAL OUT ( not RCA, like you did!) , would it let me controle the sound of the receiver with my tv- remote? That would make sense since the extractor probably supports CEC. That would really mean I don’t have to through away my old receiver that doesn’t have hdmi inputs or CEC.

The volume can only be controlled with HDMI so the sound bar i used has HDMI eARC you can’t control sound with fiber or analog

Hi Steve, can I check with some setup as the video doesn't show detail setup. I have a laptop connecting to my gaming monitor thru type-C port. So i still have 1 HDMI port is free from using. At the same time I have Sonos Beam Gen 2 which only 1x eARC HDMI port on board. So will this work if i use my HDMI from laptop connect to this device and output to Sonos Beam Gen 2 eARC HDMI port? Cuz Laptop HDMI does not support ARC which it can't connect to the soundbar directly since it can't recognize. Thanks in advance

If you plug any hdmi audio source into it it will extract up to 7.1 audio out of it as long as its supports it but I haven’t tried every scenario. $100 just try it and see if it works for you

Hi, big question here seeing if this product or any product you know can help me. I have a Samsung tv that only has hdmi arc, no e-arc. I have a brand new Bose 900 sound bar that handles Atmos. I can’t get the soundbar to recognize Atmos. So I’m thinking it’s the tv that can’t handle it. Would this product be able to be in the middle and pass Atmos to my soundbar?

Sorry if I missed this, or just not understanding. We recently moved to a home where there are ceiling speakers already installed for the next room. We have a mini amplifier that is connected to it. Our Samsung TV is connected to a soundbar via eARC. Right now, I can't find a decent way to utilize both the soundbar and the ceiling speakers. Could I use this HDMI Audio Extractor so that I'd get the same sound through the soundbar and the ceiling speakers at the same time? Or should I be looking for something else? Thanks!

@@TechSteve Thank you for the reply! We already had the tv and sound bar before moving to this home. So I was just trying to see if there was an easier (cheaper?) workaround than getting a new audio receiver and a set of speakers. My current setup is... a belkin soundform connect to airplay my apple tv to the mini amp, which connects to the ceiling speakers. This mostly works ok since we mainly use the apple tv. I just wondered if there could be other solutions to utilize both the soundbar and ceiling speakers.

Hey, can you 100% confirm that after buying this adapter I will have the option of choosing dolby digital and after 2yjwcie the menu will not return to the compressed stereo because unfortunately this is happening with the hdmi astro adapter I don't know how to activate this wobble anymore and I care about it with the astro

I have one of these, I wanted to get sound out to my Node streamer. It worked for all of a few hours and quit working. Played around with it, never was able to get the unit to stay on for more than a second or two. It stopped passing sound, and then video, then just shuts itself down. It comes with a 5 volt power supply, so I swapped that out, nothing, unit was dead. Reading a few comments on this device, this is normal, call it a "feature". Mine is going back to Amazon.

This might work, for me. My new soundbar has a eArc , but my TV only has one eArc input. So I have to switch cables, when I want to use my eArc on my Receiver, for the full system. Both my Receiver and my Denon Soundbar have Dolby Atmos.

Steve! I have 3 TVs with HDMI ARC and a soundbar with HDMI ARC. I want to be able to switch the AUDIO between the 3 tvs to the soundbar. It's for football season. We have a mancave with 3 tvs. Usually, we have 1 tv audio on at a time and my husband mutes other tvs, then switches audio between tvs depending on what game he wants to hear. What device switcher could we buy that can do this?

It’s really complicated in that scenario, you would need more of a optical switch and hook up the TVs that way and optical out to the soundbar, HDMI ARC creates a handshake so you are limited plus it more like where is the signal coming from to play football. I would pay an installer because this information needs to be explained to a pro that’s looking at all your equipment.

Hello Steve - thank you for this video. I just bought a SONOS Arc Atmos home theater system but have been struggling to get the best out of it. Looks like there are very few audio extractors in the market. I tried a HD Fury product ( Arcana?) , borrowed from a friend for a couple of days but its expensive. The one you have demoed looks like a good one but could you confirm if this will work Google TV as the input source? Thank you

Anyone with a Samsung QN90A or QN90B used the eARC function without issue. When I use eARC audio extractor devices like this and connect it to my Displays eARC (enabling eARC option in settings) I get audio dropouts on ATMOS soundtracks only.

This devise is designed to go directly to your soundbar from an external source at that point the TV is just a display so it doesn't matter, the Samsung eARC is very confusing...

@@TechSteve i do use a soundbar with my system. With external devices i can set to passthrough and there are no problems whether atmos is lossy or lossless. When i use the internal app on TV only Auto is available and sound to my soundbar drops out over time. It drives me nut because i had a qn90a and a qn90b and it happens to both.

Hey Steve, is this one or anything else you know will support Chromecast? I tried J-teck 4k, it says it supports DB5.1 but it only works with Apple TV or Amazon fire stick, tried it with a Chromecast when I play move on Netflix, no sound on 5.1 but yes on stereo mode. So wondering if this one in your video will work or you know any other extractor will work? Thanks!

If I want to use an headphone with DolbyAtmos for Headphone, the headphone go on the 3.5mm Jack outpout on the extractor or can I put the heaphone on my PC's sound card? And can I only use my PC as a streaming media player? thank you in advance

I doubt if headphones work with this that way, it supports 2channels and it doesn’t have pre amps

Hello Steve! I need your expertise and help. I have a Samsung TV Crystal Tisan model 55” with one usb port and two HDMI inputs, one is eArc which I’m using with a Sony soundbar. I also have a roku box and a chromecast Google tv. I’m trying to use a HDMI switch to connect the two devices, but for some reason when I switch from roku to chromecast, the tv displays a message about the power missing connection. My HDMI cables are 2.0, but I’m still unknown why this happened. Any idea?

Hi Steve, great channel man👍👍!!! I have a question, maybe you can help me. I made the connections as instructed: HDMI cable from my TV eArc to the TV eArc port of the HDA-931; then, another HDMI cable from my A/V processor Arc to the Amp Arc port of the HDA-931. Nothing happens, neither on the screen or in the sound system. I just loose sound completely. Would you please provide some assistance? Thank you.

I only showed analog out hooked up this way, it’s designed to extract from external devices like shown in the video
