The size makes more sense when you recall the fact that the Earhart is a Strike-Wing Escort. It's a carrier. It launches fighters. Not as many as a full carrier, but still launchers fighters. Source: I own this ship and it's mirror counterpart, in game.

@@jocax188723 Yeah more or less I suspect "escort carrier" would be closer. The way I would see this being used "in universe" would be as either to give small craft support to the fleet heavy hitters in a combat fleet or to give small craft support to convoy escorting civilian ships thru a lawless part of space (or during wars)

@@JohnnyZenith the class is named after the Engle class ship that appeared in Discovery (they do this with most ship-redesigns, the Buran-class and Gagarin-class ships, which are coincidentally not American, are another example of this, same as the Yamamoto class, named after the Galaxy class ship that appeared in TNG)

The #1 hanger door could be covering a split level hanger. Having two levels of shuttle hanger deck with a single door would make much more sense for the size of it. You could even have a single shuttle deck with a half size work-bee hanger on the second level which the door only opens to expose when necessary.

Well it is billed as a "strike" wing carrier but now that you point out it's softer look I could see it being a supply vessel that uses shuttles or small cargo pods that can drop through atmosphere like an unmanned barge. hehe I use one of these it's one of my favorites. You can see little tiny windows on the ship like porthole sized that would be close to Voyagers windows. I just assumed the big white ones are arboretum like on the Constitution refit secondary hull. Maybe the one forward of the bridge is like the one aft of the bridge module like an observation deck.

12:45 torpedo launchers under the launch bay, torpedo launchers between the inner impulse drives, a torpedo launcher (with a cluster of what I'd guess are high output phaser cannons) directly below the bridge, phaser emitters on top of the nacelles and on each side of the upper shuttle bay. it's a ship designed with firepower prioritized over everything else. 14:45 that's an observation deck, look at the size of the windows just above it.

It reminds me of something I drew when I was in high school during our Star Trek rpg days, and there was this saucer section and I affixed nacelles to either side, and called it the Silliosaurus. This was way before DS9, like 1988, during TNG. Actually it doesn't really need the nacelles on the sides. If you put them under it, or above it, it's cool. But if it were smaller scale, it could be neat variant of Defiant. Like it. Also, was thinking the thing doesn't need the saucer. Sling back the bridge to the midline and make the primary the 'Romulan' feel and it would be a cool variant of the Reliant/Belknap.

I have this ship in the game and i see it as a big strike carrier that can swing with larger cruisers and dreadnoughts i can also see it in a logistics role moving large amount of personnel and materials quickly between the transporters and larger shuttles

From the design I see this ship having a detachable saucer section that is used as a lander for scientific/ colony/ freight transport or as a military base while the top part is the "ship"

It's a good agile ship. It works well in conjunction with the Jupiter class carrier. One fires off tactical powers the other supporting science powers as you launch off waves of fighters or say Delta Flyers.

I love it when you guys review STO ships. You did miss a great shot of inside that lower shuttle bay on this one. Also, using the renderscale and fov commands in STO you can get some great shots of these STO ships in game.

How about raising the nacelles enterprise d style with the 90 degree turn. It would make it more Starfleet, paint it green as it is and it could be a Romulan transport ship.

I really love this starship design. Out of the box thinking while keeping the Starfleet esthetic. Angled down nacelles would have made it look a little better IMO. As always, please continue making it so 🖖😷

The big windows are observation windows that reach from deckfloor to ceiling. Like the windows Archer saw through on Ent-J. I love those kinds of windows on starships and wish we saw more, as they tease us to have a better chance to see right into the ship; the closest we had were the botanical windows on the Enterprise.

@James King: Dorsal surface does have Orville aesthetic! And I could see freighter variant, with nacelles, pylons and top being the frame of the ship itself, and more distinct saucer being underslung, interchangeable cargo pod(s).

Based on the bridge windows, that ship should be half the size it currently appears in that render with the other ships. Just one of those windows is the size of the D bridge module almost.

Indeed it does remind of an Oberth ..... i was wondering what was that vibe that i was getting, and i just couldn't put my finger on it, before you mentioned it! EDIT: as for the size......yeah, the shuttle bay, the windows, the escape pod hatches, the bridge and torpedo launcher......this all feels like a slightly up-scaled Miranda class.......definitely not the behemoth they made it out to be.

Don't deflectors emit energy in a cone in front of the ship so it would be interfering with shuttle s launching or landing on the lower bay even at impulse?

Because of the small profile, it gives me a stronger feeling that it is a military ship. You always want to present the enemy smallest possible target.

I think the overall idea is solid but it feels like a ship 75% through it's design process (something like the prototype of Voyager with the long nacelles and "fins"). Which makes sense, you can't spend that long on "one of" the ships in STO compared to a hero ship, but it obviusly limits the potential. For me, the two biggest weaknesses are that the nacelles really shoud be underslung, not inlina with the hull, and also the saucer rim is too thick, that is why it looks like a roomba.

The show runners of ST:D made a lot of decisions that make it seem to fit better in the JJ-verse than the Prime universe, but their treatment of Spock has me convinced that it's a different universe entirely.

Definitely feels like it should be smaller with a science and then a planetary lander resupply ship, looks perfect for regularly entering and leaving an atmosphere. As a combat carrier it looks fragile with machinery on the exterior surfaces, in combat who needs armour plating it seems.

Here's my take: this would look better if it didn't have the saucer. As it is, it looks visually cramped and cluttered. I think it could still look perfectly Starfleet without a saucer. Or maybe add a small saucer on the top? Maybe more towards the aft of the ship? Also, what do people think of nacelles that could be used as actual pontoons for a water landing? I think a slimmed out version of this without the saucer would work as an aquatic science vessel.

I think it would work better as a ship under 300 Metres with a similar mission profile to the Saber class (or basically scale the shuttlebay to be a useful size and see how big the ship ends up). However is it's under 500 Then it "Might" be a size that is reasonably compact and able to land on a space station or planet and have things essentially driven right into the lower shuttlebay. One idea that might work well though for a similar looking ship is make it hollow and put the deflector on the underside and make it ALL shuttle/cargo bay on the interior. Have the outer two thirds of the ship and the underside contain the tech, the middle be all cargo bay and the top and part of the secondary bump be living quarters. labs & offices. I think the basic shape though could work for anything from something of USS Defiant size to something as big as a colony Transport.

I also picture the internals of a ship from the outside views and the torpedoes need relocated and 1 shuttle bay needs to go away. The nacelles need to be shifted down or up to clear the view for the nacelles. I noticed the did some blue coloring on those to perhaps demonstrate that all the coils are at the rear of the nacelles, I ain't buying it. Their is some sort of optical dissonance that is making the ship look smaller than it is, that might be an advatage if people were still targeting with a mark 1 eyeball. I like the thru deck concept for a fighter/shuttle bay I think the blue lighting under it is mostly there for artistic look rather than anything specific. Most of that space would be support and cargo for the embarked fighters or scientific shuttles.

Totally agree the scale just seems off love it but I was thinking scale between a defiant and an intrepid. Also the escape pod hatches are gigantic if you compared them to the scale on the d and e it makes no sense. But as usual just an amazing design

This is not a cruiser ... this is a frigate refit as a strike carrier. You're looking at it as if it's a cruiser. Calling it a militarized transport is actually a pretty good take.

In my opinion, i like the overall concept; however theres certain aspects of the design that i feel doesn't work as well as it could; one: The closeness of the nacells to the hull, (that seems to be a carry over from the DISCO version. I'd have them below, like a Nebula class. two: the amount of greeblee's in the primary aft section of the top of the hull; if the ship was say refit era Trek, i think the amount of exposed elements would work but, not with this, it's almost sovereign era like in shapes and colours.

I really don't get why Starfleet puts its Torpedo launchers next to the shuttle bay. When an enemy diables the ships weapons it also cripples its fighter wing capabilities. Worse, it might just rip the ship apart when the torpedo bay explodes.

Wow! 409 meters!? That is a surprise but okay... A bit of an odd bird, but i Like it! The _Engle_ & _Earhart_, like the _Somerville_ & _Hernandez_, even the tried-and-true _Oberth_, i want to make a cruiser variant of this Nacelles & Saucer arrangement... Hmn... ⛓⚙⛓ ⛓⚙⛓ ⛓ ⛓ ⛓ ⛓ ⛓ ⛓ Now i'm thinking of Light Cruisers in the 160-300 meter range, with the *Heavy* around 400 meters.
