It is time to start getting the raised beds ready for the spring planting. The first crop to be planted is the Sugar Snap Pea, which I normally plant around March 15th. To get ready for that planting I need to remove the winter cover of straw so that the sun can start warming the soil. Today's task is to clear the two raised beds on the arbor of their winter mulch, and apply some fresh compost to prepare the soil for planting in two weeks.
The next task will be to clear a couple of the beds in front of the greenhouse to prepare them for planting of the Lettuce, Kale, Swiss Chard, Onions, and Bok Choy. Those plants will go into the soil around April 1st. The final clearing of beds and spring planting won't occur until mid-May when the Peppers, Tomatoes, and Eggplants will be ready for transplanting.
