FANTACULAR
1. I'm pretty sure I've heard parts of this song before
2. I though the intro was pretty slow
3. Shouldn't the genre be disco funk
4. Trumpet part is not very prominent in this recording. Nice different effect.
5. Love that little break a little past half way. Perfectly placed and is a nice reset for the listener
6. Chart Performance- HOW DID THIS NOT ABSOLUTELY DOMINATE THE CHARTS?
Fantasy
Earth, Wind & Fire
Every man has a place, in his heart there's a space,
And the world can't erase his fantasies
Take a ride in the sky, on our ship fantasii
All your dreams will come true, right away
And we will live together, until the twelfth of never
Our voices will ring forever, as one
Every thought is a dream, rushing by in a stream,
Bringing life to our kingdom of doing
Take a ride in the sky, on our ship fantasii
All your dreams will come true, miles away
Our voices will ring together until the twelfth of never,
We all, will live forever, as one
Come see victory, in the land called fantasy
Loving life, a new decree,
Bring your mind to everlasting liberty
Our minds will explore together, old worlds, we conquer, forever
We then, will expand love together, as one
Come to see, victory in a land called fantasy,
Loving life, for you and me, to behold, to your soul is ecstasy
You will find, other kind, that has been in search for you,
Many lives has brought you to
Recognize it's your life, now in review
And as you stay for the play, fantasy, has in store for you,
A glowing light will see you through
It's your day, shining day, all your dreams come true
As you glide, in your stride with the wind, as you fly away
Give a smile, from your lips, and say
I am free, yes I'm free, now I'm on my way

Maybe "Fantasy" was too cerebral for the masses!!! lol "Serpentine Fire" from the same "All 'n All" album reached Nos. 1 & 13 on the Billboard Hot Soul Songs and Hot 100 charts, respectively. Virtually every song on the album was #1 material, and "Fantasy" wasn't my favorite song on the "All 'n All" album, neither was "Serpentine Fire" my favorite!!! I guess there were so many incredible songs out at the time that to break the top ten was very difficult!!!

The music arrangement at the beginning is absolutely amazing. As a kid I thought the horns sounded like whale calls or elephants trumpeting. The layering of the instruments and melodies with Phillip Bailey's falsetto makes me feel like I'm floating.

All n’ All came out in 1977,one of EWF best selling albums. And it’s my favorite.BTW EWF had a huge fan base in Japan. And them horns you’re referring to,is the Phenix Horns.Phil Collins hired them in the 80’s.One of the greatest horn sections of all time. I agree with you about the songs should’ve charted higher.Let’s face it,a lot of white radio stations didn’t play their songs.EWF is the GOAT band!

Dominating the charts back then was no easy job. There were so many amazing songs at that time, it took millions of sales to make it into the Top 10. I wonder if a song like this was released today, and went up against the noise that passes for music, what would happen? I must say. I'm not familiar with your channel, but I'm seriously enjoying your reviews! 😁

Great pick Jay! The period from 1976-1979 produced phenomenal songs, a sharp blimp on the radar imo. I distinctly remember while driving in my car at least 2 songs/wk debuting on the radio. This carried into the 80’s creating many new artists expanding the field into different genres. Exciting times!

When "Fantasy" reached position 32, number 1 on the Hot 100 was the Bee Gees with "Night Fever," in the number 2 was another song made by the Bee Gees but sang by Yvonne Elliman "If I Can't Have You"; That same year, almost a month later and in the same position, another song made by the Bee Gees also arrived: "More Than A Woman" but performed by the group called "Tavares". An injustice.

Fantasy was re-recorded by Black Box - who made the _monumental_ chart-topper _Ride On Time._ They picked up the pace/energy and made it into a dance track, which really worked imo. The EWF original is funkier, chiller - I like both. 🖤

I don't care at all about chart numbers. I state it to give myself context to the song. I wanna have a preview....is it considered a good song at the time or a bad song? what was popular in certain decades? Why wasn't it popular? These are the types of things I'm thinking about when I look up where it charted.

Gabriel.. Believe it or not.. in the 1970s EWF was on the cutting edge of soul and R&B and funk.,,there music was more sophisticated musically that most black music of the time that charted top 10...inticate arrangements, lyrically deep, not the simplistic hey " let's get down..oh baby.. oh baby" with a catchy beat... which would garner more listeners and a, higher chart position... many people I knew at the time did not get what they were doing..,,the fact that they have stood the test of time shows what level they were on musically .,, just a higher plane of musicianship... ..

My fave EW&F. Didn’t top the charts I think because it’s too complex. Those parts you love where they pull back? Ordinary folks would get bored and spin the dial on the radio, I’m afraid. 😞 I heard someone describe Philip Bailey’s falsetto as more “grounded” than other guys, less “floaty”. I liked that description.

Charts can NEVER be trusted. If you're relying on a chart to tell you what is or isn't good music, you will MISS OUT on good music. Charts tell you what's popular or what's "mainstream"; they DO NOT tell you what's truly good musically speaking. The only qualifications a song needs to be deemed a "commercial hit" is radio spins, and a top 40 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 (the higher your chart position, the more saturated your song/s will be); and this is ALL POLITICAL. Some of THE BEST music in the world never sees a top 10 chart position. Please don't let charts be your end all be all as far as your taste in music is concerned. Seek out the good stuff for yourself. There's SO MUCH out there just waiting to be found. Bounce from genre to genre; explore different styles within the genre; listen to the stuff your parents grew up on. Think of a family member or friend who has different taste, or a more extensive music vocabulary than you, and ask them to make you a playlist. EXPLORE, EXPLORE, EXPLORE. Then, compare the musical gems that you find to what's currently being played on the radio. I guarantee you, you will feel gyped.

What world do you young people live in?? So sad that you are not exposed to the genius of African American people. EWF represented the spiritual and historical roots of Black people. They are musical geniuses with limitless talent...far BEYOND a band or group. To experience their concerts back in the 1970s was heaven sent and a galaxy awakening to my people... It was the African diaspora gathering throughout the universe (not the planet, the universe.) ✨✨✨✨
